I don't view it as cultural appropriation. Just about every European culture(I'm not familiar with traditional coverings of other cultures)has headcoverings and veils that look like hijabs. Paintings of the Virgin Mary even show her wearing what would be considered a hijab today. Clothing that is considered Islamic today predates Islam. Orthodox Christians (especially Russian, but not all) wear a long veil that drapes their hair and upper half of their body when they're at mass. I remember about 10 years ago seeing the non Muslim hijab movement all over youtube. Now it's a different story if someone is portraying themselves as Muslim by wearing, say,an entire outfit that would be associated with Islam.

The Virgin Mary wasn't European though and the European paintings you see of her are from painters who took artistic freedom and politics a bit too far. As a Jew/semite/Middle Eastern she wore tichels.

@@becauseofangelsandalopecia3534 Yep, a simple veiled tichel gets it done! And you can wrap it up and off your neck on a hot day! I prefer the soft neutral colors from the hijab suppliers, rather than metallic thread and loud colors I see on Orthodox tichel wearers.

I'm a pagan witch and I veil often, if I feel I need to that day or I feel a particular connection to a deity. I prefer hijab style to other forms of full head veiling, but when I wear a hijab I'm always aware that whilst I may be white and wearing a pentacle, a first assumption is that I'm Muslim. I'm always aware that I'm representing a religion that isn't mine, so I always remain respectful and aware of how I'm acting, as well as dressing more on the modest side. Thank you for this video, I've felt quite concerned that I am insulting the Muslim community when I wear a hijab but this video has made me feel much more confident. Thank you :)

If being modest, covering my body completely, and acting respectful and not being rude, as well as understanding the meaning behind it, can I wear the hijab. I am very respectful and I wore it once at home, it made me feel safer. I am just so interested in all of this.

Absolutely. I also want to add that there are many other traditions associated with headcovering other than Islam, and if you want to wear it, you should do so for whatever your own reasons are. Of course keeping that in mind, peoples' actions can affect the Muslim community if we're pretty much the only ones that modern society associates head covering with. Thank you for being so considerate. Please feel happy to wear hijab wherever you feel comfortable!

I had a dream where an angel told me to cover my hair, and I asked him "just to get married?" and he said "no, women always must cover their hair". This was a personal revelation (I'm a Mormon), a call from God to cover my hair, I would call it a scarf and not a hijab, but in the end it comes to the same concept imo. I wouldn't use it like a 'hijab' per se, I would wear it more like just covering my hair and not my neck, if that makes sense. Xx

Thank you for this video! I'm a covering Christian, and while I practice modesty, for me covering is about reflecting God's creation order and authority over my life. I cover in a tichel style and I'm considering a hijab style. This video gave me a lot to think about, especially what you have said about reflection on other Muslims. While I'm sure others may already assume I am Muslim (because many Americans do not know the difference between the hijab and tichel, I know I didn't before I started covering full time), I still want to be careful that my dress, words, and actions reflect on Jesus and identify me as a follower of Jesus. Though actions and loving my neighbors are the most important part of following Jesus and reflecting Him, in our visually driven world it is also important to consider dress as well. This lovely video has given me a lot to consider about wearing the hijab, or at least, where to wear it and where not to wear it. Thank you, God Bless!!!

I don't think it's cultural appropriation because Christianity pre dates islam and as such so does the wearing of head scarves. Of course it is not. Headcoverings are Biblical and before the Jewish women wore it, Egyptians and Middle Easterners used them. Eastern Orthodox women have always worn them and Roman Catholic women just stopped with the advent of the feminist movement. No one has a claim on an upward sign to their inner relationship with the One True God.

Thank you so much for making this video!💗 I've been thinking about wearing a Hijab for a while. I've always been the stubborn friend who refuses to drink, smoke, or dress with anything that's too revealing. When I was a kid, lots of my classmates were Muslim and I always thought the Hijab was beautiful. It wasn't until recently that I learned it wasn't directly connected to religion. I'm an atheist, but I love learning about all kinds of religion, culture and language. Wearing a Hijab just feels right and I'm excited to try it. I moved to a new area years ago that unfortunately is racist and very against different religions. So, maybe I can help my friends and family here learn and be more open😊 I do have a question though! Say I'm wearing a Hijab, and as a non-Muslim, would it be inappropriate to hug my family members or boyfriend of 5 years? My family is very huggy, and I'm very friendly. However, I only usually touch people when I'm with my closest friends/family or in one of homes. I am a bit worried that my partner wouldn't like it if I restrict hugging or cuddling in public. We're too shy to kiss in public though so that wouldn't be an issue. What do you think? Sorry I wrote so much! But thank you for taking the time to read this!

I love this view about thinking about how your actions fall on muslims. I'm not muslim or religious but I'm very spiritual in my own ways. I've never worn a hijab but I've thought about it many many times throughout my life...I simply just think they look beautiful as well as other headscarves in general. For me there's something magickal about it. I have witches in my ancestry and I don't know why but headscarves feel very connected with magick and femininity for me. I never really thought covering my hair would connect me to my femininity so much until I did! I've been a little nervous to wear headscarves of any kind because of the conservative places I've lived in the US. But I'm giving headscarves a go lately (not hijabs) but I still think sometimes of trying a hijab

Head coverings are mentioned in the Bible. ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭11:5-6 I myself am a Christian that wears a hijab and when you do more research you’ll find that it actually started with Jewish women and it predates Islam. @@reetahdd6504 yeah in other countries it’s very common even for women that aren’t religious. But as far as it being obligatory, I think the Bible speaks for itself. When pray or prophecy a woman’s head is to be covered but just like everything else in the Bible it’s between you and God and you don’t have to follow anything the Bible says because of free will. Covering your head shows your obedience and fear of the lord which is a beautiful thing any woman can have and should be encouraged as the Bible teaches.

Islam is not a culture, but religion. And not an ethnic but universal religion. Islamic laws are universal and intended for every human being, including hijab. Regarding that, observing hijab brings you closer to God and I doubt any Muslim would object to a hijab of any woman if he has any belief and piety in his heart. Except of course for the poor souls taken over by an inferiority complex, who hate themselves for being Muslim (by name).
