Here in Montreal it was -40 Celsius (windchill) the other week and the coldest temperature I ever commuted at. It surprised me that the bike was affected that much. Chain felt like it was seizing up so super hard to pedal. Snow collecting and clogging up in the V-brakes. The steering the same, seizing and would not turn easily. The tires felt weird, stiff, then eventually my back tire deflated. Turned out the tubes lost flexibility and simply cracked. I later found out the tubes are only specced to about -20 celsius. At -40 the rubber simply gave up. I suspect bikes needs better components to make it through extreme winters like this. Grease, o-rings, tubes and tires not made for very low temperatures

Hi John, For the cold hands try silk gloves inside your main gloves, it works great when skiing so it should be ok for cycling? Is Austria your forever home now? I really can’t think of a prettier place to live. Stay safe and happy riding from the Uk👍
