As a gen Z building my house right now, I would not have been able to do it without the VA loan. If you're a veteran I highly recommend you use that benefit! That treacherous obstacle that's making it harder to buy is the down payment of 20%. There are other avenue to look into which is FHA loans, and any programs for first time home buyers in your local state, local counties and cities. Life is tough and not everyone is lucky to have rich parents that is helping out with the purchase price.

Renting in most cases is still better.. The Housing shortage and rates are abhorrent not to mention insurance rates and property taxes.

And you don't have to cover maintenance

@@Lamar-ok5sl I don't think you understand how renting works. You, as the renter, are still paying for all the insurance, maintenance, taxes, etc. As a renter, after 20 years go buy you have nothing to show for it. Buying a home, you will likely have a couple hundred thousand dollars of equity....and over time the home gets cheaper. I have a house mortgage that is about a decade old. It is now cheaper for me to live in this 3100 sq ft house that it would be to rent a 1000 sq ft apartment.

@@WoobaOne you said a bunch of nothing to a group who wants to get up and leave whenever the lease is up, mean while you'll have to sell your home or find a renter..... Owning your home means nothing if the tax code changes, especially if not in your favor. That equity means nothing, just numbers that can get played with. If the market drops, what happens to the equity? Or if the property taxes go up, you raise the rent and the tenant doesn't like it then what happens. End of the lease tenant moves and who's stuck with the bill now? What happens if you don't get a tenant to move in.... You're stuck with everything you just mentioned.

Ban damn investors from buying houses
@WoobaOne10 сағат бұрын
That will make no difference, as there are already people living in those "investment" houses - so changing ownership does not create more availability in the market.

Buy within your means and plan to spend for upkeep. If you rent long-term, you are paying for someone else’s mortgage.
