Is it peen or pein?

Well this could be a can of worms. Do we use peen or pein to describe the lump on he back of our metal working hammers. My spellcheck wants me to use peen. My brain want me to use pein. I chose pein. What about you?

I saw peen on the telly and thought it was wrong. Pein is what I remember from old engineering days.

I like the "EI" version just because it's more interesting like you said. Consider adding a silent G and see if that eventually adds to the confusion.

Pein also looks like a propper word to describe what a tool does and is! Peen doesn't cut it for me. I don't like pee in my tools.
