@BobSmith-kw6mg I agree he's not as valuable as Ohtani for all the reasons you mentioned, but again, he's only 26. That's an important part of this equation. He will top Trout because that was an extension, so no open market bidding. Soto is two years younger than Trout was when he got that extension. On top of that, Trout's contract was five years ago. Player contracts only go up over time as the league sees ever growing revenue. When you factor all of that, he easily tops $500 million, IMO. I don't think we see $600 unless he signs for 15 years or accepts deferrals.
@kapilagarwal92442 ай бұрын
He's good in the playoffs so you are getting guaranteed .780+ ops in the postseason with him, but that's still not worth a $600+ contract which is what he's gonna get. I don't think he's gonna defer money either. That being said teams willing to pay the luxury tax up to the final apron (maybe slightly more after the double 110%) can afford his services and still fill out the roster properly for a playoff run. You are paying $15 mil extra over another slugger a year because you know he's not gonna swing and miss and be a threat in the middle of the line up in the playoffs. Also the contracts gonna be over like 13 years so the aav will not be terrible and you go into cost cutting mode at the tail end of the contract. It's basically just the mets and yankees bidding for his services. I don't think it makes sense for the dodgers even if they can afford him.

Speaking from the cardinals fan perspective of the Contreras topic. I know Trev mentioned his defense and that might be why he thought the FO made that move. According to Mo it’s a move to keep him healthy moving forward because statistically he’s been our best hitter in his 2 seasons. Also, and i think most importantly, we have Ivan Herrera and Pedro pages and Herrera in ‘22 was supposed to be the yadi successor but as a prospect he needed more time. I think now as the cardinals are openly entering a retool or transition they are giving him those reigns. Just my opinion, i consider the Contreras move similar to Harper to first.
@kevinr99432 ай бұрын
As a Cardinals fan myself, I understand all that & I am not necessarily opposed to the move if he must stay. However doing so basically eliminates Bakers spot on the roster. Which I'm ok with as well. I'm just not ok with taking up 5 roster spots for C & 1B/DH. I want Burleson listed as a 1B/DH along with Contreras or Baker, not both. Baker should go if Contreras is now a 1B/DH. This allows you to avoid both Walker & Burleson as 2 of our OFs & leaves room for 4 OFs, 4 IFs plus Donovan to what Donny do.
@mtp74792 ай бұрын
@ yes i agree with Burleson, he can slot in as a corner outfielder first baseman as his primary positions. Personally I’m out on Luken Baker I don’t think he’s particularly part of the bigger plan of the FO. That’s just my opinion on that so that’s also why I’m ok with the Contreras move, I am however a person that doesn’t want to move Walker to first. Only reasoning is he’s still young and his athletic peak is still to come so I think some outfield seasoning could help him be serviceable defensively. Either way though, I’m not high as if we’re gonna make the playoffs next year, but I think the cardinals will be average to competitively average where they can steal a final playoff spot. As their ceiling of course, but I’m actually not as down on the cardinals current decisions to enter into a transition between windows. What do you think though?
@ayydubs9872 ай бұрын
i think moving mookie to 2B *is* actually the best move for him. he's been very vocal, for a couple of years now, that that's what he wants. he's described his infield days as "half off days" and the run out to RF every inning is putting a lot of wear and tear on his body. he's still very good in right, as evidenced by the plays he made all postseason, but he has lost a step out there. keep your superstars happy, and mookie is happier at 2B.

Juan soto looks like another Blake snell situation waiting to happen. Teams aren’t gonna offer the contract boras wants and it’ll get dragged all the way to spring training

No way! Soto has no glove and only has a bat once in a while

You guys really think Juan Soto wants to play for the Dodgers? After losing to them?? A Kevin Durant move??? Is he signing long term or short term???
@foodtv67502 ай бұрын
Good i hope he go some where elsea d suck other team money😂
@winnerwinnerchickendinner88092 ай бұрын
If he does, baseball is a joke since if they go by strictly based on the numbers. Compared his numbers this year with Shoman ain't even close during regular season. Might have an edge a little during playoff but Shoman was hurts

Soto is not going to defer a measure amount because he doesnt have outside money like Ohtani

Dodgers want to drive up the Soto price so they can get teams stuck with him.

This Contreras to 1st thing is just another trash move by my beloved Cardinals. This dumpster fire of an organization is getting harder & harder to watch everyday.
