I’d say the way that the functionality derailed towards the end, including the lack of dual compatibility on certain actions (correct me if I’m wrong, but it looked like a lot of the final floor portrait ghosts didn’t require using both Luigi’s to accomplish a task) sort of implies where the multiplayer eventually had to be scrapped during the development. Either due to lack of time or the inability to resolve these problems during testing.

player 2 can actually enter doors fast you need to be lined up with the doorknob in the front and the seam between the door frame and the door you can go through quickly the side is harder and almost impossible to get through the door by winging it. At my work we have the Luigi’s Mansion arcade game. It’s a full immersive black box you sit in and use actual real poltergusts. It even has feedback you feel in your hands and you get a first person perspective inside the mansion. It even has 2 player mode. No modding needed. It’s incredibly fun having grown up with Mario and even thoroughly completing Luigi’s Mansion 3. If you ever get the chance you HAVE to play it. It’s a completely new experience

The door glitch can be solved by adding the Unlock All Doors action replay code. Just gotta be careful to do things in exact order otherwise the game breaks (boos will despawn after being found). Also, when P2 is low on heath, exit the game and reload as player 1 only and get health. Save and Reload the game again with 2 players and P2’s health is restored!

Hey swanky, I think I know why the second Luigi can't open doors very well. Since the objects in the room unload, the door doesn't work properly if player one leaves due to being partially unloaded. This is why it works fine if player 2 enters first and then player one follows, as the objects are still loaded.

Shouldn't the 2nd Luigi be the unused upscaled Mario character that was found in the files? Granted, it would be weird when he can still call for Mario, but maybe the actual game where you can hear Mario calling back from the well would've been used for a call/response thing?

Seems like there needs to be a little extra programming in addition to giving P2 his gear so it's assigned to the total count, but this reinforces the idea that they were probably intending to have Mario as the second character so each player would see how much they collected/etc. but for the training room and total cash acquired it would probably be tallied separately then compiled into a total.

Unlike the flag for the Equipment on/off state, which is global (affects all loaded player objects), using health codes we already have doesn't affect P2. Although it's no impossible task to make a code for that at all, so maybe we'll have that in no time. I'll try digging his health in RAM soon.

Also, I'm betting the Mario portrait is headless because Player 2 is supposed to be Mario (Portrait Mario in that cutscene could be using an in-game model assigned to Player 2's entity.), that you seem to have forced him look like Luigi doesn't change who the game identifies the entity as. So Player 2: 1. Can't pick up items (That includes money?) 2. Can't use keys to open doors Player 1 has the key(s) for. 3. Can move in cutscenes, but directions are relative to camera angles. 4. Can damage ghosts, if equipment is hacked in, but captures aren't documented/acknowledged by the game. (Poor Poltergust hacking?) 5. Cannot recover HP, nor use Power Ups. 6. Cannot beat mice and other enemies? (I thought you said he could damage ghosts!) Nor affect Boolossus. 7. Can still affect some things in a limited way, like the curtains; It might need both players, but maybe there's stuff that only needs one? 8. Stuff can be unloaded if P1 goes too far. Might be useful for some kind of sequence breaking? 9. Player 2 needs a long time to open doors. Maybe this has to do with the Poltergust-hacking in? I'd like to see a category involving 2 Players. It'd be interesting to see this as a category. Maybe there are some vacuum-during-cutscene based sequence breaks. Alternatively, P2 does combat, P1 collects stuff? Good video! Nice when you do these REALLY weird Challenge Runs! Reminds me of your Every Object is a Coin challenge, which is one of my favorites!

You should explore Luigi's Mansion 3 next, and see if there are any secrets there. Probably not, because it's newer, and coding has probably been refined, but it would be cool to find something in there.
