Too be honest this challenge is kinda of misleading because you used Mario to open the doors when other KZbinrs have proven that it is possible to get thought them with Yoshi with glitches.

congrats on completing the challenge! I'm a SM64DS speedrunner and challenge runner and I've done similar things in the past, and you actually got pretty much all the stars you could've got without glitches! Stars like SSL Red coins and Rainbow Ride switch star could actually be possible with very precise jumps, and very quick timing (to get off of the flying carpet to press the switch and get back on the carpet before it despawns) (and somebody else already mentioned slide-kicking the piranha plants, which you just didn't realize), but yeah those are difficult ones for even talented speedrunners lol a lot of glitches could probably be used in this challenge, but the main one would be getting past brick blocks with weird camera manipulation tricks; that would allow WF switch star, the battle fort secret in the yard, eyerok I'm pretty sure Yoshi can slide-kick into to defeat?, and the switch star in HMC. the one I want to experiment with though is the 100 coin star in HMC, that star is not easy when you can't walk through poison easily to get the blue coins...

Actually is possible do "Pluck The Piranha Plants" with Yoshi, in the part of the island where the Plants are, there are also 3 logs, if you groundpound 1 of the logs a Mega Mushroom appears and with that you will be able to beat the piranha plants.

5:55 actually, they put a flame in the bossroom for Yoshi, so he can beat the two hands by using his firebreath. And maybe the same works for the piranha flowers in Tiny-Huge-Island by eating the fireballs.

I forgot how good this game looks compared to the original. They both have a vibe but looking back I think i prefer the way this one looks. It's honestly pretty good design on Nintendo's part that they allow most of the game to be playable with 1 character (though i dunno if this is true of all the options) with minor restrictions or needing some characters for some stars, but not for completion. They knew some people will have their favorite characters or that people would intentionally challenge themselves.

@Saw: You can obtain the 8red coins behind the water fall with yoshi, used yoshi tongue to grab the red coins underwater I know it will be slow and once the 8 red coins power start appear, just jump on it from the top. The only one you can't as Yoshi is the one that you need mario in Behind the water fall. Wet dry world quick race throught down town is possible as yoshi only if you allow glitchess, their is a way to clip throught the wall, and to load the bottom of the level through out of bounce so you can swim and enter from behind the cage.

8:22 5 Secrets of the Mountain is actually obtainable, just tedious. I recently jusy revisited this game and decided to do no powerups challenge (not unlocking the red switch). You're intended to use wing Mario to fly around the get the eight coins. However, you can use the owl and drop yourself out of the sky to collect each of the five secret coins and land safely on the ground. No powerups is a fun challenge cause I got to around 120 stars before needing them for completing 150 stars. You realize just how little they are needed!

Regarding your question, I think my favorite world is Wet-Dry World. I like how the water level changes at the start of the level depending on where you jump into the painting. Sure, Tick Tock Clock has something similar (and gets bonus points for being one of my favorite MK8D tracks), but I'm bad at platforming and bottomless pit go brrrrrrrrr.

Definitely not a fan of the bottomless pits lol. But I agree, wet dry world is up there for me as well. Especially when you jump in the painting as high as possible and the water level is higher than the highest water level you can find in that course 😄

@Saw: You can obtain the first power start in Tiny-huge island 2 diffrent way with yoshi, you can jump on does giant pirhana plant, or ground pound the wooded pole for the mega mushroom. Seriously check all option first before assuming. 3d rules you can jump on pyrhana plant, the only one you can't jump on are sleeping pyrhana plant that are awake.

But you said withot mario but there its a bug/glitch that you can enter the first bowser level withot opening with mario. You know the acquatic level/painting with the secret and the 1 up, so you need to alert the 1 up that he chase you down you need to eat the 1 up and there its a frame that yoshi can jump and you need to go up the right pillar and sprint and you should go out of bounds. And there its water to save you. You need to go to the right until you are at low healt and jump and you should fall in the level.

Technically the power caps mean your still yoshi just have the ability of the other characters legit i could beat this using power caps

The challenge rules I set for myself were based on everything chugga said and that included not using any of the caps to let you play as the other characters unless you’re using the Mario cap in the bowser fights
