Have you played Just Shapes and Beats? Although not a horror game, I think it has some good reference material for what you're trying to accomplish

I've never heard of this game before, but 97% positive reviews sound very promising. It seems like there's a lot I could learn from it. Thanks for the recommendation! I'll definitely give it a try

This is a very well made video and only has 44 views? I think this will hit the algorithm.

I feel that if a player is immersed in a horror game it doesn't really matter if the world and character are simple shapes You could also add a dark fog and darken the players colors and only really use that vibrant red in places that you whant the player to feel scared, like in a chase scene, thats because rhe vibrant red will contrast alot compared with the rest off the game making the player more scared, also I'm not a professional game dev but i still know something about horror games Also you DESERVE more views and subs >:( Love your content I hope to see you thrive in youtube and game dev ❤❤❤

Thank you for your support, it really warms my heart and motivates me! I think using red is a great idea because it can create a lot of pressure and highlight important moments. It definitely shouldn’t be overused since it’s such a strong color. As for the dark fog, I have an idea to use it during dangerous moments because it can create a suffocating feeling. For me, dark fog is associated with something like a panic attack, but I’ll need to test it to see how it works in practice. Your advice is really good - I’ll definitely try it out. Thank you!

Long time fans of Dwarf Fortress know you don't need high graphical fidelity to evoke horror in the player... nothing is more horrifying than digging too deep and seeing the unstoppable flood of letters take your fortress room by room, dwarf by dwarf. Duskers is also effective at this I feel. The horror is in wrestling with the unknown for vestiges of control and agency in a bad situation.

I haven't played Dwarf Fortress of Duskers, but it sounds fascinating! That idea of horror being conveyed through mechanics and imagination rather than visuals is really interesting

I scared myself from seeing a shape cause of seeing a lamp with something in front of it once lol so I believe it's possible to make a horror game with simple shapes.

I love the concept but for me it is a bit to much for the pixelation. The idea is great and you should make something out of it! You have potential!

Thank you for your kind words! I think I’ll add more details to the game, which will help reduce the pixelation level while keeping the atmosphere intact 😊

Not really down with the pixel effect
@hokkori-games2 күн бұрын
Do you mean in general or just in this particular concept? I feel like this effect can add some vibe and spark players' imagination. Since the shapes are simple, without the effect they might not look as appealing. But I ерштл, it makes sense to experiment with the intensity of the effect - keeping the pixelation but with higher resolution so the pixels aren't as large
@marouaneelghayate73302 күн бұрын
Yes a higher resolution pixelation would look a lot cleaner. I would also experiment with the lighting, shading and perspective

Got it about the pixelation - I think that makes sense. As for the lighting, shading, and perspective - sounds like a great plan - I'll give it a try. Thanks!
