@@dirtydoigler2116 I don't think you know what electricity is. Edit: cold just means lack of energy, so how do you make energy cold. Energy doesn't get cold or hot, because it itself is the reason things are cold and hot
@gabe8168
@gabe8168 4 жыл бұрын
@DoYouEvenGameAndLift BRUH that's different smartass. Nomatther how much heat energy you group together, the heat energy itself can not be hotter or colder. The heat energy has it's fixed heat, and all the heat energy together makes up a greater heat. Whatever contains that heat energy is what you say is hotter or colder. That has nothing to do with the water analogy. You can't compare two unrelated substances to prove a point

@@gabe8168 hey man Greetings I was just curious about two subjects and you seem to be quite knowledgeable about scientific stuff. 1: can flame conduct electricity?! Or more specifically can electricity go through the fire? 2: does lightning or electricity put out fire when they hit it if the voltage was high enough?! I would be so thankful if you respond to this. Thank you

@@amireyvazi9251 1. Flame doesn't conduct electricity. Flame is a result of different chemical reactions. 2. The reason fire could be started by a lightning strike is because electricity can be used to start the chemical reaction. Flame is not one thing, it is a result of multiple things

My guess is that, since ice is a dielectric, we were seeing the same phenomenon as before while there was no water present. Yes, pure water is a dielectric too, but since it probably wasn't pure water it acted as a bridge. Even if it was pire, tho, since it's in contact with metal some metallic particle will get dissolved in the water pretty quickly, thus making it a conductor anyway.

First of all exactly how many experiments had you thought of prior to them being in a video? This comment implies that every experiment he does you've already thought of. Secondly, what difference is the vacuum chamber going to make? All it's gonna do is cause the ice to melt off EXTREMELY fast. Furthermore electricity works perfectly fine in vacuums so why would the results be any different? Doing this in a vacuum chamber will be completley pointless.

The sun emits a lot of light, some of which is dangerous (including UV and X-ray). If you could find an alternative light source that only emits light in the visible spectrum, then it should not damage your eyes. As far as I know, infrared isn’t harmful (I’m not a doctor) but you’ll probably get some with any light source that gets hot. LEDs with a diffuser might be your best option.

This is a cool demonstration especially because my PhD research was on light emission from avalanche breakdown in solids. I do not think that the observation of the sparks disappearing in the ice after some time can be explained by air pocket formation. Air has 80 times lower breakdown electric field than pure ice (due to different relative permittivity). The local presence of air or spark-induced defects would have lowered the breakdown field and the sparks would have continued. What I think is happening is the result of Paschen's Law. Breakdown voltage has a positive temperature coefficient. With local heating, the voltage needed to cause the breakdown increases. If the RPM of the generator wheel is maintained the same, this would result in the voltage reducing below the threshold (like a negative feedback). To verify my theory I would like to ask you: if you wait for some longer time, did the sparks reappear in the ice (when it cools down) ?

The reason why the sparks went out when the ice got a little bit warmer is because the salt content in the ice became more evenly distributed. hence the gap between the electrodes became partially conductive( basically you shorted the HV and Gnd electrode). so conductive current would flow immediately as the potential tries to build up in one electrode so there is an immediate collapse in voltage. As far as i can see, the generator is only capable of generating a few joules of energy. hence, the potential wouldn't rise up as high because the medium is already conductive. The built up charge is already dissipated through conduction even before the potential can become significantly high to visualize a breakdown. PS: I'm a High Voltage Engineer at IIT kanpur. hope you liked my explanation

Cool! This is kind of a variation on the permanent electrophor, something the alchemist's tried to create ages ago. They were partially successful, they would take a piece of metal, charge it up with the high voltage, then pour molten beeswax around it to isolate it and when the beeswax finally cooled off and it hardened, they could go around picking up bits of paper and things like that because of the trapped charge in the piece of metal. I heard it would hold the charge for several days so it made for an interesting trick. Anyhow, believe it or not, the permanent electrophor is the concept behind flash ram. I tiny piece of metal oxide (I think, can't remember for sure) is isolated in silicon dioxide and by charging and discharging the element, determines if it is going to be a 1 or a 0... I always thought it was amazing how fantasy can become reality....

Is the flash caused by the rolling shutter effect? It would be pretty cool to see a slow mo capture of this

when the ice melted into water, it created a conductive channel and shorted out the generator. Even pure water becomes more and more conductive as you pass a current through it.

Perhaps you could make some clear ice (see a few videos on how to make whisky ice cubes, if this isn't already instantly familiar to you) and try this again with more visibility.
