Marvellous, Afshin! I, too, expected it to shatter. Now I know how agate linings for fishing rod rings are prepared. Then, it makes cutting Edinburgh Crystal with abrasive wheels looks simple. On a walking holiday in 1952 I collected several fine pieces of violet Blue John from the fields above the mine, and might well experiment with some. Perhaps an abrasive wheel would allow one to facet a turned bottle stopper? Keep up the originality! Bernard.

Great video. Although I was expecting it to explode. Back in the old days of turning the Blue John into vases and cups ect they used to stabilize it in pine resin. But times move on and it can be stabalised and vaccum in resin. Blue John can be very brittle to work with. You did a good job there and will make whatever you do and make a unique item.

i was expecting it to shatter too but suprisingly it didnt trick is to use sharp/fresh carbide and have steady hand :) i dont have vacume chamber but thats great idea! thanks for watching mate.

You are an amazing man, Afshin. You keep breaking the boundaries of turning. I never imagined that Blue John could be turned with traditional tools. It will make a very special finial for some project.

I held my breath as you started. I thought it might be like the agate or worse, that it might explode. Once again you proved me wrong. It is a beautiful piece and will look wonderful on a lid.

That is beautiful Afshin, you never cease to amaze me. We have a fluorite mine near where I live in southern Illinois. But its mostly the purple variety. Every once in awhile, they'll pull a different color specimen piece out. Pink, green, blue. But it's not very common. Cant wait to see what you do with this piece. Saving the dust was a great idea.
