In this video we head north towards Marsabit Kenya on our way to Lake Turkana. We pass Mt. Kenya, ride through a conservation, get stopped at various checkpoints and inquire about the bandit activity in the area. We are given the go ahead and continue on into the dry, very hot desert of northern Kenya.
We hope you enjoy following along on the journey. Feel free to comment with any questions. Remember to subscribe and give us a thumbs up if you like it, Cheers!

It's nice to see you've gotten back in touch with your Catholic upbringing to help you slide through checkpoints. When in Rome... Just don't let baby Jesus get wind of your shenanigans! Stay safe kids. Steer clear of los banditos yo!

Haha thanks for the comments Seth! Wasn’t raised Catholic, but can adapt to most religions / philosophies when necessary lol. Fortunately, our shenanigans these days will certainly provide an instant path to heaven. Cheers!

Metzeler has an elephant logo on its tires, but don't know why. Giti tire has an elephant, but it has to do with being an Indonesian company.

Interesting Chris. I had some Pirelli Scorpion tires once but I can’t remember if a scorpion was actually on the tires are not. Cheers!

@@2kickaround I had a Scorpion rear tire. It wore well on hot tarmac. It made me think about all the African motorcycle names: Dakar African Twin Tuareg Ténéré Elefant Tires: Scorpion Karoo Desert Dakar

The reason why your bike was misbehaving was because of change of altitude, the carb misbehaving

Thank you for commenting Mbugua. We didn’t realize how much elevation change we would be going through in Africa. Thankfully we have enough power to usually get by ok. Thank you for following along. Cheers!

Great episode, so which one is better after all those many miles the Supertrapp exhaust or the one you got on your bike?

Thanks for the comment Patrick. Good question and not as straightforward as an answer as you’d think. The Supertrap seems to be louder no matter how many plates are in it since it is “tunable” with the number of plates. It is also a lot lighter and simpler to install. I love my XR’s Only exhaust. I like the deeper sound.. still reasonably loud, but not quite as loud as the Supertrap. It is not tunable, and it is designed to go with an XR’s Only header. I had to make an adapter between the stock header and the XR’s Only exhaust pipe since they are different diameters. This adapter may be available through XR’s Only. I think the stock Honda header is best for low end power and possibly all rpm ranges. Sal’s bike has an XL600 header which is slightly larger to perhaps increase the top end power for the XL600’s highway use. Both are spark arrester‘s. And both require extensive heat shields to protect your bags if you’re carrying luggage. The Green Chili Adventure Gear heat shields work great. The eBay/Amazon ones not so much. The XR’s Only exhaust also requires an additional heat shield or exhaust tape of some sort to protect the side plate from melting. I used exhaust tape around exhaust packing. Side note: Sal’s bike seems to be quicker/faster with a stock piston, Supertrap and a Mikuni Pumper carb than my bike with a JE High Compression 628cc piston, XR’s Only Exhaust and stock carb. Hers also get considerably better fuel economy. If I were to do it all again, I would leave the bike completely stock and put a Mikuni Pumper Carb on and call it a day. Hope that helps. Thanks for following along. Cheers!

Back to the heat! I used a hammock for dozens of nights in central merica..cant sleep in the tent while sweating. But i had lotsa ticks in my nether regions.! But that was bicycle trip The balder the tire the more likely to get punctures? 😅

Thanks again for the comments man! Yeah, back in the heat. We do love a good hammock and I remember those ticks in Central America.. they go exactly where you don’t want them! We’ve had our fair number of ticks lately too. They get into the seams of the tent and appear in many locations for days after. Thanks again for following along. Cheers!
