I'm Mexican and I can tell you it's safe if you are cautious, of course it is not going to be safe if you are in a dark street at 2 am in Tepito... You need to know where and when you are going to be... And obviously you shouldn't have the "tipical tourist look" you need to use logic
@esmeraldadiaz6386 жыл бұрын
Same thing over at in Juarez, a city near the border which is also near El Paso, if any of you heard of that place. Anyway, my point is that if you're out on the streets past midnight over there, there's a high chance the police over there will pull you over and threaten you if you don't pay them back for some reason. And it's a high price, well with their currency compared to ours, it won't seem like much. But still, the police over there are just bad. They're very corrupted, and they just don't care about anyone, only money.

As a Mexican I totaly agree with this video, the safety here depends a lot of where you go, and at what time of the day, even in the citys depends of the colonies (neighborhoods). I live in Guadalajara, the worse thing has happen to me was pickpocket in a concert. I have friends who has been assaulted but also they where late night in more dangerous colonies or in lonely hidden places. but anyway Mexico still have a lot of safety problems that have to improve and then have so much less places to avoid.

To be clear, i know it is safe. I just wanted to illustrate how media outside a country actually blew up things out of proportion. For example, in Mexico the shooting are shown like something that happens every other week. Also, that high schoolers are afraid of their lives on their schools. However, I am not blind to the fact that Mexico have real dangerous zones. Sadly there is places and roads that not even locals can travel to. But there is a big difference from a dangerous zone to a fail state. I apologize if my comment offended anyone.

I think that Mexico is decently safe if your a cautious person, I was born and grew up in small town Texas but I have family on both my parents side who live in Mexico. I visited my grandma and a few cousins in a small rancho in Zacatecas where there is only 4 stores. I’ve visited my dads family in Mexico City, and I went to Puerto Vallarta with my family that lives in the middle of Guadalajara and Tepic, in the state of Nayarit. We travelled in bus to ALL these places, because the gas prices per gallon is almost double that of U.S gas prices (cause there’s only one Mexican company who controls all the gas, so they have a monopoly and can charge as much as they want.) so it was way cheaper to get a bus ticket and travel overnight/all day in a bus to your destination. It is safe and cheap to travel by bus as most average Mexicans do this, the buses stop at huge 24/7 gas stations that are safe to stop to and only stop once or twice until they reach the final destination. There are bus companies in every decent size city, just look. Also, everywhere I went to the only thing I was told by my family in Zacatecas and Mexico City was to be very careful if I were to go out late at night partying (like after 10pm) I have to go in a group that I trust and not be out all night cause that’s when all the bad people involved in crime are out on the streets. My family in Mexico City say to just be careful when taking the metro/public transport because there are very good pit-pockets that will take your phone or wallet without you even noticing, always keep your stuff in front pockets/have your bags in front of you and you should be fine. They also say depending on where in the city you are, don’t flash your expensive jewelry around like an idiot cause someone might try mugging you, but they said that’s rare but it could happen. My family in Nayarit say where they live it’s really chill and they don’t even lock their doors, it’s true, they don’t. It’s a VERY clean city and it has many stores/cafes to see, it’s always warm cause it’s by the beach and the people there are so friendly. They say the only people who have issues are those who are involved with crime, but as long as you don’t get into that stuff or support anyone in that, you should be fine. Bottom line is that it really DOES depend on the specific part of the state/city your in. The same things can be applied anywhere. In essence the only thing you should be worried about is pit-pockets, and staying out too late in shady areas. I saw many tourists by the beach from Europe, Canada and Australia, everyone was living it up. You’ll be fine. Just don’t be stupid. I hope I answered some questions. Also just for the record, not every Mexican wants to come to the U.S. my family in Mexico never even thinks about it because they are middle class and doing just fine and love where they live. They also tell me that they think everyone in the U.S. is racist and unfriendly towards Mexicans and that’s why it takes so long for them to get a visa to travel and visit American family they have over there, they also say they are scared to go there cause they might get discriminated against for not knowing much English. So it just goes to show you how it goes both ways lol. And just so y’all know, I didn’t see any foreigner in Mexico speaking Spanish, they all spoke English and got around just fine, so don’t come at me with they need to know English to visit stuff, because that’s a double standard.

It'sRobert this comment is so relatable, you just need to take your cautions, don't be stupid. Also, on vacations I visit a very small town in Hidalgo (3hr road from Mexico City) and it's really quiet and calmed there, I lobe there because all you do is enjoy the place and chill, it's one of the calmest states, it only depends where and which time are you going outside, just use common sense

In some countries you are generally safe wherever you are, so no, it doesn't depend on the specific part of the country that you are. If you're a tourist, you're likely to visit a place that's considered unsafe by the locals, especially if you're an adventurous type. Also, lots of people wan to travel and have fun and sometimes this means drinking and partying, situations when you forgo a bit of common sense. You should be able to travel anywhere without much care in order for a place to be considered safe.

My wife and I flew to Mexico in 2014 to stay in Cancun. Now I know Cancun is pretty much not even considered Mexico since it's so Americanize there but we rented a car and drove all the way to Merida across state which took us a few hours. Yeah we were scared!! But we really wanted to try it out. We crossed into a different state inside Mexico and two police men carrying huge automatic rifles stopped us from crossing this bridge they were guarding. They told us to pull over to the side. My wife and I started freaking out. We were in the middle of the jungle and these 2 cops could have done anything to us! But all they did was ask for our car registration papers and passports since we were Americans. Did a computer search and cleared us. They reminded us to dont trust anyone and to try to be back to Cancun before dark. They were really friendly. Long story short. The two weeks we spent there in the state of Yucatan, never had a problem.

I’ve been in Mexico for about a week and a half now, and it’s beautiful! Having someone you know you can trust to guide you is a must. Me and my family were trying to get into a city, and there was a check point of police officers , and they asked our driver a bunch of question like, where are you coming from? Who are you? Who are these people? Why are you traveling towards this direction? Later to find out that they weren’t actually police, but maybe members of some cartel keeping an eye out for anyone who looks different.

I’m from Mazatlan, Sinaloa, the resort town mentioned in the video. Honestly I’ve never faced any gang related violence, and my family and friends haven’t either. I know it’s a problem in some small towns in the mountains (Sierra) but here it’s pretty safe. I go out at night every weekend and come back pretty late in taxis or Ubers. Never had a problem. Here in Mazatlan we also have a big community of retired Canadians and Americans living here. They love it! It’s really sad how we’ve been portrayed by international media. I know my government is incompetent and corruption is a problem, but I don’t know what type of deal they have cuz drug gangs have left us alone for a long time. Big and touristic cities like Guadalajara and Guanajuato are also struggling with drug violence, but I know that tourists and innocent citizens are left alone. Give Mexico a chance, people will welcome you in their houses, you will feel like one of our own, you’ll realize how unfair all this bad press is, and best of all, you’ll eat the most delicious food and get to be a part of my beautiful and ancestral culture.

I can tell you this, if you are thinking of traveling to Mexico city (where I live) you are Most probably safe from getting mugged or jumped on. But you do have to beware of pickpockets(especially on the metro) you have to take care of your belongings because many people here will not return a lost phone or wallet. You also have to outsmart scammers, if you have a tourist face people sometimes will try to get an extra coin by raising prices etc. But for the most part you are safe in Mexico city.

Also, there are parts where it's really safe! I live in a place where it's really safe and I love it! Even though kids below the age of 13 should not be left alone for safety reasons it still shouldn't be a problem. As a Mexican, I agree with most of the info provided on this video. You should always avoid shady places. An easy way to tell if a place is not frecuented by gangs is the genre of music they play. If they play "banda" and "corridos" it's most probable there will be at least one or two gang members around. If it's rock or pop they play, it's almost unlikely there will be crime there...

It's true. We're might be very classists in Mexico but that's because most of the time they fullfill the stereotype, if someone listens to narcocorridos they probably love violence and idealize criminal life, probably desire the most expensive stuff (alcohol, cars, clothes, jewelry) to gain status inside a gang and see women as objects, probably are ignorant and droped out of middle school, probably have lots of stupid and unnescesary drama in their life for making stupid decisions...

I am a gringo and was sent down to Mexico City for business for 5 years. Being from Texas , and having Mexicans friends and colleagues, I pretty much speak and understand Spanish almost fluently. Some sayings can differ from country to country. Huevon in Mexico, means lazy, but in central America, its more like saying asshole. In a nut shell Mexico, in general, is safe and can offer great times. If you can use a little common sense, you will me fine. Don't be the idiot drunk gringo looking for trouble, because its easy to find if you are looking for it. Show respect and dignity, and you shall receive it back. Don't be dumb and decide to venture to isolated border towns. I'll tell you a short story. I hailed a cab from the street, and noticed the meter was still running from its last fare. I politely said, hey man you did not reset he meter. The dude, who looked above 50, apologized. But I paid and got out. Casually, a lady was watering her garden and asked if everything was ok. I told her what happened, then offered me to come in her house, which was quite beautiful, for some coffee and offered me to take me to my destination. We drove about 15 minutes and dropped me off without charge, even though I insisted. Lovely lady, said it was her duty to help a fellow stranger. So long I pay it forward. I had an accident rock climbing and fractured my collar bone. I was impressed with the health care facilities. Ofcourse, it was not free. Just dont be an idiot and attract attention. Do be aware of your surroundings, and I cant stress enough, COMMON SENSE people, and you will fall in love with the place. Salud.

All I can say to anyone thinking of going to Acapulco is to exercise caution like any other place you might go. As long as you stay to the main parts of the city, you’ll be fine. Obviously don’t go downs sketchy looking alleyway as you wouldn’t wonder down one anywhere else in the world. Acapulco is Beautiful, truly a gem. There’s a lot of violence, yes. But Acapulco is a very large city, and the vast majority of those affected are involved with the Cartels.

@kahlilsykies91396 жыл бұрын
I'm an American living in Ciudad Juárez, México. Across from El Paso, Texas. I've also been to several different areas of the country. The issue of general safety in México depends on several factors. First, location. While in truth, it is possible to experience violence anywhere in México. A tourist area, an upper class area, an American tourist was recently killed in an upper class area of Mexico City. Around ten years ago, a Canadian tourist was killed in Mazatlán. The chances in such places are low. But activity from organized crime can penetrate any area. But generally speaking in resort towns and more affluent cities; Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey. You'll be fine, as long as like any large American City, you avoid the bad areas. Note, being proficient, or knowing some Spanish can get you out of a bad situation. Which can happen anywhere. A reality of living Mexico is that, outside of certain places, your safety is dependent more on your appearance and street smarts, knowledge of Mexican society; in most places your ability to speak Spanish. Anywhere in Mexico, though more so outside of resort towns and more affluent cities; if you appear to have money, you will be noticed and approached by the police. Criminals will also notice you. Even if you never know they're there. Are you aware of the laws here? You definitely don't want to end up getting arrested. Especially if you don't know Spanish! What about your street smarts? Do you stay away from bad areas? Its ill advised to spend too much time at bars, night/strip clubs. Even in places like Cancún. There have been a lot of complaints from Americans having bad experiences there while intoxicated. Rather you're in a generally safer city, or a poorer community with a lot of voilence, Like here in Ciudad Juárez; Nuevo Laredo or elsewhere. These rules apply. Ciudad Juárez is one of the most dangerous cities in México. But I've never had any problems here. I don't go to bad areas, appear wealthy or flash money. Though I have been searched by money hungry police a lot. I don't appear poor. I never carry much money, and always tell the police I'm disabled, poor and get money from the government. And they leave me alone. When they ask you where you work, big tip! You don't want them to know that you do work. This leads me to another overlooked aspect about living as an American in México. You're ability or inability to blend in, will shape your overall experience here. As an African American, especially in Juárez. I stick out like a sore thumb. It's like wearing an American flag in public. I stay to myself, that makes the difference here. Hispanic Americsns living here don't have these issues. I understand you wouldn't have as much of a problem in a border city like Tijuana. Resort towns; or previously mentioned more affluent cities. I know an American girl living in Nuevo Laredo, a generally very dangerous city. She's been there for 9 years without problems or police searches. Without needing to keep to herself. But she is Hispanic. A black, white or Asian person will have different experiences there. Lastly, how much money do you make? Do you make enough to reside in a good area of whatever city? Or did you go to México because you really can't afford to live in America, or you're really struggling? Having money here definitely provides some security, that might really be needed at some point. If you have an understanding of México, many places are livable and safe. Despite what you may hear about in the news. But it depends on the kind of person who chooses to live here.

Hi, very good comment. As a mexican girl / woman i've been asked in different parts of Europe and (specially) in USA if México is safe, cause they always hear really bad stuff from here, mostly what people describe of what they know of the country is like if we lived in a really poor town full of organized crime, narcos and corrupt cops. I always laugh at the comments, and remind people how big is México. Every state is so different and has beautiful things in it, and as always, as you say, there might be crimes, but only having good thinking and staying out of the dangerous places you are 100% safe. I'm from a middle class family living in the border city of Mexicali in Baja California, just two hours away from Tijuana, we do live in a good part of the city. I've never, and so has my family, experienced any real danger in any part of the country. It must be hard for you to blend in a city as Juárez, as you said. You also say that might be the same for white people, asian or other african american. I think that depends on where you are as well. A white person might have lots of difficulty when it comes to blending in the south half of México, but there are a lot of places in the northern states that there are a lot of really white, blonde people (my sister is actually really blonde and pale and we have no american ancestors). Also, for example in Baja California, is really common to see asian people, either Korean, Chinese or Japanese. I myself could have a difficult time blending in some states of México, because of the diversity of this country and it's states. I don't know how to finish my comment 😅. I'm happy that you or your friends have never experienced any danger and i hope it continues like that. And to anyone who thinks México is really dangerous or is interested in visiting, have fun and just be smart when you travel in this country.

I've been to Mexicali. And to Tijuana, many times. I have a lot of family in San Diego. I'm from California myself. A city called Oxnard, located an hour north of Los Angeles. Anyway, I should have been more specific. While yes there are a notable amount of white Mexicans in Northern Mexico. Most are of Spaniard decent, and don't appear like most white Americans. Also, at least in Juárez and the state of Chihuahua; a blonde, brunette or red head Mexican with light eyes, is more likely to be thought of as having more money. It's a different reality for them, than mestizos. Is this not the same in Baja California? I am aware that Tijuana and Mexicali have large Chinese populations. They typically are doing alright financially. As you know, México can be a challenging place for Mexicans with money. Not necessarily rich. But with some money to spend. A white or Asian person with an American accent, and style can still stand out. Is this not so in some places? What have your experiences been? Have you ever been hassled for money? Approached by the police?

Zacatecas has also joined the "Do Not Travel" list of Mexican states, so now there are six "Do Not Travel" states: Sinaloa, the aforementioned Zacatecas, Tamaulipas, Colima, Michoacan, and Guerrero. The first "Do Not Travel" state mentioned (Sinaloa) is in Northwestern Mexico (the second most dangerous region in Mexico behind Southwestern Mexico), the second (Zacatecas) is in North Central Mexico (the fourth safest region in Mexico behind South Central Mexico, Eastern Mexico, and Southeastern Mexico), the third (Tamaulipas) is in Northeastern Mexico (the third most dangerous region in Mexico behind Northwestern Mexico and Southwestern Mexico), and the remaining three (Colima, Michoacan, and Guerrero) make up the entire region of Southwestern Mexico (the most dangerous region in all of Mexico). As for the "Reconsider Travel" list of Mexican states, the seven states are Baja California Norte, Sonora, Chihuahua, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Morelos, and Chiapas, all of which are in the northern half of Mexico, except for the last two, which are in the southern half of Mexico. The first two "Reconsider Travel" states (Baja California Norte and Sonora) are in Northwestern Mexico (the second most dangerous region in Mexico behind Southwestern Mexico), the third (Chihuahua) is in North Central Mexico (the fourth safest region in Mexico behind South Central Mexico, Eastern Mexico, and Southeastern Mexico), the fourth and fifth (Jalisco and Guanajuato) are in Western Mexico (the fourth most dangerous region in Mexico behind Northeastern Mexico, Northwestern Mexico, and Southwestern Mexico), the sixth (Morelos) is in South Central Mexico (the third safest region in Mexico behind Eastern Mexico and Southeastern Mexico), and the seventh and last "Reconsider Travel" state (Chiapas) is in Southeastern Mexico (the safest region in all of Mexico). This means thirteen of Mexico's thirty-two states have either a "Reconsider Travel" rating or a "Do Not Travel" rating, which means almost half of Mexico (41%) is effectively off limits for travel. That's insane.
@greninjamariokartpokemonfan2 ай бұрын
Now, there are some relatively safe states in Mexico, such as Coahuila, Durango, Nayarit, Queretaro, and Oaxaca, all of which have an "Exercise Increased Caution" rating. In fact, the safest region of Mexico's eight regions is Southeastern Mexico (consists of Oaxaca, Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo) because it contains the only two states in Mexico with an "Exercise Normal Precautions" rating: Campeche and Yucatan. However, even Southeastern Mexico, the safest region in Mexico overall, isn't completely safe. Chiapas is the only state of the six Southeastern Mexican states that is effectively off limits due to its "Reconsider Travel" rating, Oaxaca, Tabasco, and Quintana Roo all have an "Exercise Increased Caution" rating, and and crime can still happen, even though the chances of it happening are relatively low in Southeastern Mexico compared to the other seven regions of Mexico.

If you are going to travel on Taxi, just use Uber is way cheaper in mexico and avoids the uncertainty of if you are traveling in a legally issued Taxi. MiniBuses are too crowded and could be dangerous in the outskirt of the city. Use the Metro(subway), Uber and MetroBus. Use common sense, if it is too crowded watch out for pickpockets.

As a Mexican and Russian, I really don't like it when people exaggerate and say "iS iT SaFE?!" As long as you don't mess with the cartel members, it's highly unlikely for you to die.
