Let's find out how well this Coleman dual fuel stove 533 performs after 2 gallons of unleaded gasoline. Will it show any sign of gumming up?
Thank you for watching and feel free to leave me any comments and I will try to answer to my best ability.

Coleman 550B is similar but smaller and lighter, and it is one of the best simmering gas stoves ever made. An Asian GF got me into cooking Jasmine Rice 8yrs ago and very few stoves simmer low enough to do it right. Coleman 550B and MSR Dragonfly stoves are my favorites for simmering at low temps. Trangia can get it done too with the simmer ring to throttle it back. I have 2 of the 533's and they are great boiling stoves, but they can't simmer well. A plastic Folgers coffee can makes a perfect storage case for your 533. They fit so well it seems like they were made for it.

Simmering using unleaded gas leads to clogging up the generator prematurely. Short time simmer is ok and once you start to see yellow/orange flame, it is better to stop simmering. Thanks for sharing and have a good day.

I bought a used 533 in Uk from basecamp lanterns in Peterborough for £40 recently. He might have a few left. A lot of people mentioning the associated “ clogging” of the generator and a few good tips on how to keep the generator “ free” from clogging. Just a thought of mine that maybe worth mentioning is that unleaded petrol does NOT store well. I recently tried starting a motorcycle that had 2yr old petrol in the tank and although it ran …it ran badly. When I put fresh petrol in it ran perfect. So perhaps if the coleman is not getting regular use then try changing the fuel….use the tip cleaner before and after use…..perhaps if simmering then give it a blast on full before switching off…..perhaps run it occasionally with coleman fuel or even mix a little through the unleaded.

Good suggestions but I am not sure before shutting it down, gave it a full blast for a good 30 secs will help prevent clogging. Yes, unleaded does not store well. Best to dump out the fuel before storage. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day.

Coleman fuel burns at 22,500 BTU per gallon and unleaded gas burns 20,000 BTU per gallon so the difference is very small and not worth worrying about especially for the cost savings.

Thank you for sharing. But if you like to simmer a lot like me, is it that the Coleman fuel will not clog up the generator? Currently I am not using this stove because it is so difficult to get the generator at a reasonable price. Have a great day.

Hey, I'm just commenting to see how many generators you've gone through since owning your 533? I want to buy one but I'm not sure if I should be looking into multi fuel stoves instead as it seems that parts are very expensive and in short supply too Would you buy the 533 again if you had to start again?
@uwanitbad
@uwanitbad Жыл бұрын
Don’t get the dual fuel stove. You are absolutely right about getting replacement part especially the generator is a deal breaker to own such stove. I wanted to replace the generator but ever since the start of covid, it was near impossible to get my hands on one. Now the price for the generator is way bloated. To be honest, I had stopped looking into replacing it. So long you are not having to use a stove i extreme conditions, iso-butane is a way better option. Lastly gasoline is getting expensive too. Have a great day.

@uwanitbad
@uwanitbad Жыл бұрын
@@JoshSinnott97Unfortunately I somehow damaged the generator and I don’t believe soaking in vinegar will cut it. One serious con regarding this stove is that it is not good if you simmer a lot. It is very good if you just want to boil water quickly. If you simmer for too long, it clogs the generator pretty quickly.

@uwanitbad
@uwanitbad 2 жыл бұрын
Can't really tell you how many until it clogged. My best guess is 1.5 gallon to 2. It was my fault that it got clogged up because I simmered for too long and too many times. Don't simmer too long especially once yellow started to develop it mean that the gasoline is not being burnt off clean. It will clog the generator very quickly.

@@uwanitbad you can soak the generator tube in carburetor/brake cleaner and take out the wire....carefully and use a S.O.S. scratch pad to get the gunk off the wire but be very careful of the needle tip. If it gets bent or broken you will have to replace the generator. There are a few videos on you tube about this cleaning procedure. Some videos are about other coleman stoves or lantern generators but in principle they are the same thing. Here's a link to one video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3-Yi6R-rc6shqs

Sounds like there is too much water in the gasoline. Get the lowest octane gasoline you can find. Ethanol-free gas if you can find it. You can also add a little bit of Heet, denatured alcohol, or methylated spirits to help remove the water.

@@uwanitbad hmm...I find that increasing pressure and using high flow rate always give the best flame. High heat ensures full vaporization of gasoline and high flow rate increases air intake and thus cleaner combustion (also less prone to clogging). I only use my stove at highest heat.
