Is It Time for GREAT Spring Catfishing?

The spring catfish season is upon us and it's time to get out and learn how to catch big catfish in the spring. Spring fishing for catfish is some of the best catfishing of the year. Targeting giant catfish in the spring can be a challenge as weather change make fishing difficult. In this video I discuss my theory on the date that the catfish bite becomes consistently good and weather changes are less of a factor. I also talk about the catfish bait I am using, and how I set-up for catfish in the spring.
If you are planning to do some spring catfishing, then you're probably wondering how to catch catfish in the spring and want to know where to start looking for them. If you are learning how to catch catfish for the first time in the spring, warm weather is the key, and shallow water is where you can find catfish as they go on the prowl looking for food and spawning areas. In this video I am using gizzard shad for catfish bait. Many believe that the best catfish bait for spring catfish is gizzard shad.

Tried to go out yesterday but had a Storm Wed-Thur and water went up 5ft, fishing was terrible as well as all the trash flushed downstream, fishing in hot chocolate never works well for me. Came home, threw a line in the freezer and came out with a perfect 2 person eater sized catfish.

Hey Mr dieter I fished three days in a row last week nothing much until Friday I caught a good bit of blues up near the trestle between bean hole area and trestle on the edge of a ledge afternoon bite in about 16 feet on cutbait all blues about teen range one close to twenty pounds but they turned on quickly after about three o’clock pretty fun hope to see you you out there love the videos

I got a call back after asking about certain baits here in Illinois (I'm in East Central Illinois). Turns out it was a guy that manages the fishery of some of my area including my local lake. One thing he said was supposedly we're about 3 weeks ahead of schedule. I thought: I'll believe that when I catch something haha. He also gave me a tip to add shrimp to my catfish bait arsenal. My primary bait is strawberry jello chicken. Turns out there are a couple flatheads in my local fishery that they think someone released in. He did they eat up the bluegill population. I told him I'd be glad to catch them!! Just channel cats otherwise.

I've been out three times here in Indiana and it is slow to non existent in the small lakes I bankfish. caught 2, 7" channels on the first trip, a nice bluegill (fishing for bait) on the 2nd and several gills on the last. The water is still pretty cold and we are still dipping into the -30's on some nights, (the tulip trees and crepe myrtles are going to freeze their blossoms tonight), so it will still be another couple weeks but the bluegill are moving up. Tight Lines!

They are usually going to be more durable and are better suited for more applications than spinning reels. And the selection of quality rods you can buy to put them on is about 10x what is available for spinning rods. That’s why.
