Hi Joe. Good video. I am a retired Architect here in Nevada who has spent time in Thailand (Love it there). Don’t make your decision based on what you’ve seen at that store. Do some further research online, pay the 1000 baht and get better answers. Based on some quick looking, Thailand is one of the best countries for solar. Good luck!!

@@thaigirlgiftforeignerjoe7774 Hi Joe. Don’t forget to figure in Property Value increase when you are figuring out your return on investment. JJ Should be able to help you with that part of the equation. Here in America, a solar system is worth +/- and additional 4% to the home value. I would imagine in Thailand it is less, likely around 2%.

nice update Joe, thanks! i built my own solar here in Prachuap a few years ago. Happy with it. Will sell my electricity soon. Still a ROI of around 5-7 years as electiricity is relatively cheap [5 B/kwh]. Maintenance cost is hardly an issue, because there are no moving parts like a generator. Removing bird poo from the panels will cost you 200-500B/year. I can't believe people in US pay thousands of dollars to thoroughly clean panels, while the degradation is around 2-5%. A bit of advice, battery right now does not pay off. Check your daytime use and take an ongrid system with a hybrid inverter [for future battery extension] of 1 phase and maxed at 5kw inverter and panels. Then PEA is happy to buy your excess electricity for 2.2B/kwh for 10 years. For night time use, try to reduce. Like shutting off pool pumps. Insulate your roof [EPS, white ceramic paint]. Add awnings to cover your bedroom outer walls/windows. Add ceiling fans. For brown outs [rare in Prachuap], consider a portable battery backup for your appliances and a hotelroom for a convenient night. I would not want to have a diesel generator for the noise and air pollution, as you don't have many options to place it.

Joe, research Generac, the world leader in emergency full time, full sinewave power. Beautiful integration into the home. They run quietly on diesel, or propane. The system has auto-switching to cut over from power company feed to your live generator feed. Generac is what you would like knowing how you like state of the art.

HI Joe, not sure about in Thailand but we got 6.6kw solar and a 13.5KW battery in OZ and it saves us so much, still not got a power bill, still in credit, even though only get 8c per KW feed in here, when it's hot sunny, free aircon, prob heaps cheaper where you are for power, but the ROI makes sense anywhere. take care guys all the best Chris

Another thing to keep in mind is you would only need the batteries to have power when PEA power is out. If you are just using it to reduce your PEA bill, and not to use it for emergency power, those batteries could be added later if you change your mind about emergency power.

Ask the solar company if their regulator/invertor is RF dirty. Radiate broad spectrum of RF signals. That can cause interference to other services. Designed my own solar system at my ranch and and went down that road because of the spurious signals that fell in the ham radio band. Had to get a clean regulator (No spurious radiation). Heard it on my ham radio. In the radio spectrum I designed stuff all the way up to 20 Gigi-hertz.

Depending on the cost of power, I'd definitely consider solar... Your roof is perfect for setting up a few arrays, and you likely could go 100 % off grid... A lot of channels I follow have done it as they've built their houses in The Philippines... There, brown outs are more common, depending on the location... We're currently building (starting in July) a smaller villa in Tarlac (above Angeles City) on Luzon island in The Philippines, and will do a bigger build on a bigger piece of land starting later this year, depending on closing on the land, etc. Solar for both areas is planned...Payoff is 8 to 10 years, and the materials will last up to 20 years... It's a big outlay upfront, but peace of mind and knowing we can run AC as needed is important (for us)... A generator is also a good idea for a secondary backup. We likely will do that too, at least in the larger build...

I was thinking, Joe in the massage chair at the store oh no power cut 😂😂😂, 💡💡💡, make a solar panel for the massage chair for outside in the sun by the pool 😂😂😂 (this idea has a patent pending hehe) OR you could hook up the exercycle and running machine to the generator to get rid of that 500XL you put on in Europe, problem with that is once you are down to XXL no more power, Um Oh Gift 55555. If the power is out only for 2 hours and so, you dont need a generator. Maybe a UPS fro your freezer? Or just put air con on in your car and wait for a wile. Even go to a hotel if it is longer. Solar panels are nice, but you need som years to gain money from them .

Great video; I recommend you go with EcoFlow DELTA Pro 3 Portable Power Station. The regular price is $3699 US. It is portable, and depending on the model you get, it can give you enough power for the essentials, including the refrigerator. It is chargeable by wall sockets and solar panels. If you're looking for ROI, this is the way to go. Buying a gas generator is noisy and pollutes. At least the Ecoflow is pollution-free. The only catch is finding this for 220V, and I am sure there is an equivalent for Thailand.

Very informative video..We had the outside Generator until it was stolen while we were away a few hours..I will say, not meaning to be a 'Debbie-downer" The outside generator is terribly loud almost deafening if you run it at night, especially to the neighbors, so I think your best bet is the Generac in-home generator. Our neighbors here at the lake have one. It will come on automatically when you have a power loss then will shut off automatically when your power is restored. You probably know all this info so I wish you luck w/the salespeople that come and give an estimate on Solar panels...til next video stay safe and be happy... Our summers in OKLAHOMA can be extremely hot..so far we've had 100-103 degree heat and it's only June,, Usually hot months are July to September

Personally, I'd go with a portable generator that's big enough to run the refrigerator, (food and medicines) some lights and fans. Can cook on a charcoal or gas grill/burner. Don't need to power a lot of the house, in my opinion. We keep a couple trash cans with water in the bathroom for back up...but you have a swimming pool 😁. Shopee has good generator prices. Yes, some people don't understand want vs need. Easy come, easy go.

Solar is a big investment, but the package the shop was selling is just what they can markup and make the most profit from. approaching a solar installer i can guarantee the package would not need to be as large as you looked at, as the xl package would have left you with an excess of 3.5kw x the average hours of sunshine which would have been 7/8 per day = 24.5 kwhrs batteries were 15 kwhrs giving excess of 9.5kwhrs per day from day one resale back to grid. solar company direct sales take at least 20% to 30% of cost price. and excess sales from day one back to the grid probably giving you a roi of less than 6.5 years. so within your lifetime but the most important thing i would have thought is that in the years to come gift would have zero bills from the running of the house.

They're hard wired to your terminal box and automatically kick in. When the power goes out and turns off once powers restored. They run off of gas, kerosene , or natural gas !

I love Homepro - it's not the cheapest hardware store, but it certainly has everything and lots of staff, mainly hanging around and not doing much. I think the generator might be a better option and as power only goes off occasionally and electricity generally is very cheap. Towels and sheets are expensive there. Very few options with outdoor furniture unless you go plastic which is not attractive. Maybe there's some way that you could coat them to for protection - maybe worth a trip to a paint shop.

I can never understand why countries with a lot of sun are so slow in harnessing it's power nationally. Even in UK we had vast solar farms and the Government even subsidised Solar Panels on house rooves, even though the UK has little in the way of sun annually. We sometimes have power outages here in Khon Kaen our "brown outs" when the power is reduced. But they don't last long, 2-3 hours at most, which is inconvenient but doesn't warrant getting a generator or considering solar power. Think very carefully before going down the solar route as your money could probably be spent better elsewhere, especially if you are doing it on the back of couple of hours inconvenience once a year! Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your expedition to HomePro. May God bless all 3 of you and grant you safe travels to and from Bangkok. 😀❤🙏

The Thailand power grid is way better than the Philippines. In some parts of the Philippines, brown-outs are a daily occurrence. I wouldn't build a house in Philippines without solar. Also in Philippines you cannot sell power back to electric company and they will still charge a basic amount if you want to stay connected to the grid. For you guys maybe something similar to Ecoflow, gas-less generator/power bank would work for the seldom times you would need it. They are re-chargeable by solar and can provide enough power to run some appliances and what not until power returns. Some can go for 3-5 days depending on configuration.

From what you said it sounds like you use 15 units of power a day on average. Panels are well under 60c USD/W, you could get a small system to just offset your normal daily usage. Just load shed during a blackout. Most good Perc Mono panels last at least 30 years. Could run the system separate with a cheap inverter and the setup cost would be minimal, all in one units cost a lot more but it's simple if your going at the smaller end of practical. Grid tied inverters cost a bit as well. Batteries are the main cost at about $600 USD for 12V @ 100ah, so for a system that wont have as much voltage drop and can handle a load 48V is good but that's at least 4 batteries in series. For example 48V, 100ah is 4.8KWh, If you over panel it you will have extra power in peak generation time. For well under 10K USD you could disconnect from the power grid. For about 4.5-5K USD you could offset over half your power bill and have about a 4 hour back up

Solar is great, but it won’t really help when the (grid) power is out unless you also have a battery backup to go with it, and that increases the cost very significantly. I have solar with a battery on my house and it’s honestly great. I don’t even notice when the power goes out. The only things I can’t do are run my central (5 ton) AC or charge my EV. I did have one micro inverter die within the first year after the install, but aside from that the system has required zero maintenance. The panels themselves are supposed to maintain about 80% of their rated production capacity after 20 years. The battery backup is supposed to last at least 10 years before I need new batteries. If you do get batteries, make sure they are LFP/LiFePO chemistry and not NMC chemistry. NMC is what’s used in most of the higher-end cars due to weight/energy density, but it degrades faster when its kept charged to 100% regularly (unlike LFP) and it is much more volatile and likely to start a fire. LFP is a much better option for homes.
@gotamd
@gotamd Ай бұрын
Also, when they do the battery backup install, there is a very substantial amount of work required to essentially set up a second electrical panel where they duplicate all the circuits that will have backup power. That’s a large part of why all the battery and backup stuff is so expensive, but that part basically lasts forever.

I would suggest to look at your electric bills in the last 3 months to see how many kWh you are using then average out to see about how many kWh you use per day, since you know the pool uses about 1/2 of the power consumption per day then you can estimate how big of the system you will need to run the pool. I use Kill-A-Watt meter to check my appliances power usage before I build my DIY Solar system with battery backup (20kWh batteries), in your case you are not likely to have battery since it is the most expensive part of the system. I got into the DIY Solar system because I need something to do during the Cvd and since we also have rolling black out here in SF bay area, it is very addictive but it is fun to me to keep my brain sharp since I retired in 2020 and I missed my electronics engineering job. BTW, in a grid-tied system, when the utility goes down your solar system will also go down unless you have battery backup.

Home Pro pieces are very inflated. The panels and inverters they use are a bit outdated. My house in BKK has 3 phase electrical service. Last December I had 10Kw 3 phase solar panel system installed with any unused electricity being sold back to MEA or PEA for you. That cost me about 250K THB. I paid by a credit card (US CARD)that gave me 5% back and used a 0% interest over 3 years. I only spend about 6 months there so the other 6 months, its basically selling all the unused energy back. Yes MEA/PEA pays you less per unit but I'm not even home so its like 90% sell back, the other 10% is used by refrigerators, and my 3 car chargers, I put on battery chargers on my cars so the batteries don't go bad on my old combustion cars. We will be adding a 14kW battery system in the near future at a cost of 240K, also with a LPG fueled Generator for a fail safe for 190K. Generacs generators are available in Thailand but at a premium price with is what I am looking at. Its peace of mind. My electrical bill while living there with 3 AC on (12k BTU, 43K BTU ((3 phase air con))and 9 K btu) was about 10K THB but with solar it came down to about 3-4 K THB per month. Well worth it to me.

If you buy a generator I would advise a dual fuel so it runs on gasoline and LPG (same as your stove top). If you have a suitable size LPG tank you dont need to fool aroud with having gasoline on hand and refilling the generator. LPG doesnt provide the same power rating as gasoline but I'm sure a suitable generator power rating can be found for your needs in case of an outage. Its not like you need to prepare for the zoombie apocalypse.
