Sandy thank you so much for this video. I'm a 33 year old woman who is seriously considering going back to school for interior design. This video has answered all questions that I had about if I was too old, had the time, or was good enough 2b a designer. I am so inspired by this. You and Tamara are giving me the confidence to do what I'm passionate about. 💜

What schools are you looking into
@seomastersdegree4 жыл бұрын
I would wait to go to school and intern as an assistant. There is a town here in Florida that they are building 100 houses a month and people love a good designer. If you could learn from a designer you could save up and pay cash for design school. Literally I wouldn’t ask someone about their school instead I would hire based on a Portfolio.

I think this is one of your best videos yet! It’s so true what you both said about interior design being less exposed. I’ve been looking on KZbin for other black creators, like yourself, who have quality content related to interior design and I have not found any. Your videos have been so helpful to me, especially when I began my Master’s program two years ago. My undergrad degree was not in interior design, so I was starting with zero knowledge and scrambling for answers. Your videos definitely helped me to get a better understanding of what I was getting into. Thank you!

Felicia go for it! There really isn't a place in the military that you can be a designer. Take advantage of your tuition assistance while you are active duty and then when you are out, you can go even further! Great luck to you! -Tamara

One other thing to consider Felicia, use your tuition assistance now and you can complete your degree while you are in. Use your education benefits when you ETS for your graduate degree. Just a thought to consider! -Tamara

@@tamiamyourfavoritedragon8890 , thank you for your guidance! I’m almost done with my Bachelors degree in Project Management, but also plan to use my 9/11 GI Bill for my degree in interior design. I wish I could change my degree plan again because I would in a heart beat, but I’m limited to change my degree plan once while using tuition assistance. Again, thank you Sandy and Tamara for opening the discussion for aspiring interior designers! I can’t wait to dive into this new adventure.

🙌🏾Yes yes! There was hardly any real information about interior design. I started interior design school in 2013 totally blind to the hard work that these projects and assignments demanded. Also, I’m nearing my final year of school at 33 years old. I’ve also been working full time (in the financial industry) going to school part time and full time over the years. I was definitely worried about being older when I started school at 26, LOL! But yet, there is definitely a nice age range in the classes. I’m excited to be finished soon but now I’m trying to figure out what I want to do with my degree now. 🤣

I got onto a course and was worried about my drawing skills but having watched this video it’s made me think it doesn’t matter because you learn it as you go - actually I’ve never thought of designing disabled spaces especially for autism as I work in the area with children and young people. So they become very disturbed by bright lights noise and overstimulation. As I don’t want to work in the medical field I want to work with the creative side. I just came off an interview with a local health provider and was talking about educational spaces as I’m a dancer as well and was wondering about how you design creative spaces for people with disabilities so it sounds like there is an opportunity to help me to do that. Thank you so much for this video

Most universities require you take base course regardless of your major. Base courses can be things like biology, English, math. You won't have to do anything like physics or chemistry for interior design. I do think some architecture students take physics though...I could be wrong on that.
