Is it TOO LATE to Play JAK AND DAXTER in 2022?

I grew up as team Ratchet and Clank, but I have always wondered is it worth playing Jak and Daxter for the first time in 2022?

Jak 2 probably had the most thrown controller moments for me out of any game I’ve ever played. The sewer escort mission, the hoverboard bomb mission, those damn button pressing mini games. I find Fromsoft games less infuriating just because they’re at least consistently difficult rather than having random spikes. Still love it though.

I still think Ratchet and Clank reign supreme, but I have heard that Jak 2 is much more like R&C then Jak 1 so Im keen to give it a go at some point as well. Maybe do another video for it?

You should give it a go and just see what happens! Im no speedrunner, but this felt like a game that was all about optimisation and memorisation over insane skill if you were to try it 😊

This was the first game i played the entire thing in one sitting, and also the first game i ever beat 100% i jumped around from game to game all the time as a kid but this game really was something else when it came out

That place was the worst, especially when looking for all the orbs, I think it’s the only place I looked up a video guide for because I’d miss one right at the top of all the swinging poles. Also didn’t help that everything looks the same underground lol

@@HowGoodGames Same here and I know what you mean. Especially those moving platforms were a bit hectic to bypass and the citadel part was not as bad but still kind of hard in some sections. I'm playing Jak 2 now and those timed vehicle missions are a pain, especially when you make a small mistake you already know you gotta restart the whole thing

@@HowGoodGames I'm biased as hell as well😅 this game was basically my introduction to video games. Like this game showed me how video games felt and how they could make me feel playing them. If you want to get a grasp of the appeal back then I highly recommend another KZbinr who goes by the name of BREADSWORD. He made basically a documentary on the franchise and era and really hit all the sweet spots of why these games touched so many souls apart from it just being an early 2000s ps2 platformer with Krash and Banjo Kazooie influences.

Totally get that at first glance. This whole series and most of the videos I do started off as a review from the perspective of someone who has never played these games before. I found that the more time you spend playing modern releases and getting used to quality of life stuff in there, the harder it is to pick up a game from 20 years ago if you have no nostalgia or fond memories to help fuel you through it. Any other reviews or opinions id see on this stuff was always from people who played it as kids and would always talk about how 'good it was for the time' or saying things like 'you can't compare it to todays standards' which isn't really helpful when thats what new players are going to do whether its fair or not. I personally don't think of it as click bait though because it's the whole point of the video and I feel like I answer the question. Actually give it a watch if you want though and you be the judge, hopefully that answers the question though brother!

Is it too late? Yes, yes it is. Game is boring. Short. Tedious. Uninteresting. Uninspired. With levels, mechanics and objectives like a random mish mash of tedium.

I would definitely say today, yeah it can come off as uninspired for sure. Back then though, it was the engine which was leant to insomniac to create ratchet and clank which became what could argue a genre defining platformer. I loved it though, short collectathon with an easy plat? I’ll take that any day of the week
