Never understood why so many people sell a car when presented with a big bill only to spend more on a newer car. Keeping an old car on the road like this does come with the odd larger bill that can exceed the value of the car but if it gets you another couple of years of motoring then happy days! Great video as always

Another great example of why you should keep an old faithful Mercedes Benz. It is great that original parts are still available for these vehicles. It sounds like a lot of money, but when you consider it against main dealer pricing, it is great value, and you know the job has been done right by Sam and his team at SPR Autos. 👍😎

I’m always surprised by the amount of corrosion. I remember that from the time when I lived on the Netherlands. Now I live in Dallas Texas. No corrosion at all. And I mean never. So, chapeau for you and your team to deal with that on a daily basis. I so love your videos! If you ever think of getting an American mb, consider North Texas. Even better than California.

We had a sprinter in with coming up to the 1-million-mile mark, just out of interest we asked the merc dealer who supplied all our parts, if the million miles would show or would it reset to zero, they didn't know and a few weeks later the van was destroyed in an arson attack at the company yard so we will never know.

Well worth it - compare that with the 1st year depreciation on an electric car. Also this must surely be better for the environment keeping the old Merc going than putting a new car on the road every two or three years.

There are people in the U.S. who would still buy and sell cars in that shape for $5000 to $8000 U.S. dollars, However they would not put the work into it like you, Thay would literally drive it into the ground with no repairs. Broken springs / shocks leaning to one side, dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree Sad!! All the while you're in there stuff is great to see. Cheers from a fan in Detroit.

There's an old adage about knowing the price of something but not its worth! Value to anyone is subjective and older, serviceable vehicles at the bottom of their depreciation curve often represent much greater value than their notional worth for the reasons Sam articulated. For the last couple of years I've owned a C230 Wagon with just over 90,000 miles on it and it passed both its MOTs without any major expenditure other than the usual annual servicing. Yes, I'm aware of the potential failings of the early V6 M272 engine but I understand from my local MB indie that the balance shaft has already been done which just leaves the intake plenum etc. and the usual rear seals, 'Drip Pan', oil cooler gasket etc. as potential issues other than the usual wear components. I can also confirm the quality of the original MB exhaust as mine still looks like it's came out of the factory last month! Although I now only drive around 5000 miles a year I have it serviced annually irrespective of the computerised service recommendation and expect it to outlive me! At the first MOT in my ownership the MOT inspector queried how long I'd owned the car as he said that it was the cleanest, nearly 20-year old car he'd seen in his 40-years as an MOT tester! Oh, and despite its age it is still stuffed full of computers; you really need to go back to the mid 1980s to avoid them as that was when Bosch first designed the CAN system that is still largely prevalent today!! Still one of the best Mercedes channels available on KZbin and only wish that I lived locally to SPR, keep up the quality information Sam please, it's much appreciated.

It’s worth it if they’re hanging onto the car for a bit. One of the things I love about buying a slightly older car is doing some jobs to make it better…some myself and others left to the pros. It might not always make financial sense 😂.

Of course it’s worth doing. That trusty steed has got to 230000 miles probably with little issues. Where would the owner find a better and more reliable car £2500? He wouldn’t! Plus it’s paid your wages. These old cars need to be kept on the road. It does my head in when garages tell owners repairs are economical, they don’t look at the bigger picture. Well done for repairing it.
@Judith-c6r2 сағат бұрын
If as an owner you like the car and have the cash to keep it on the road, worth every penny as you will never find a satisfactory replacement for the cost of the repair. These CLKs are one of the best comfortable, safest, reliable cars. The CLK 209 has really good corrosion protection.

I really want a 209 320CDi sport, they seem to be vanishing from the classifieds compared to petrols/220cdi’s… are they a good engine? Any very costly repairs on this engine or rust traps? Thanks! Ps spending the money on a car like this is well worth it, plus the cost could be cut considerably if the owner was willing to do the service/brakes themselves. Modern stuff just isn’t up to scratch and depreciation is a silent killer.

Is it worth it? I have 4 cars in my mercedes collection currently, (Don't tell the wife, the word currently means I am planning to buy more), one of them is a 1990 W126 300SE with 260K miles, it has not a FSH but a good SH, its not the fastest, its not quite the prettiest, but its in great nick, on average it costs approx £1200 per year to run with tax, but I love the old wafter, to me its worth it, there may come a time but its not yet, I mean to buy a replacement I am looking at £4K for a tierd one and £10K for a nice one. the CLK is a slight different problem, its of its time where the quality of the build dropped, but some cracking engines and some super rare models, but its down to the owner, what can they buy for £1800 to enjoy as much? Kia Picanto, Nissan Juke, no thanks.

Diesel mercs are great. I had a 1955 180D Ponton whose odometer had been around the clock who knows how many times. It was a great car and took me around remote parts of southern Australia for thousands of miles. No seat belts either as the car was so old. I kept on top of the maintenance and fixed things as I needed and I was always amazed at what spares were still available as genuine spares from Mercedes. Of course some re-engineering was required at times but that’s the case with any classic car. The engine was slow but strong and still did 40mpg on a good flat outback road with the foot to the floor. Who could ask for more? This was in the 90’s and I wonder where that car is now. My parents sold the car for me when I emigrated back to the UK for the same amount I bought it and apparently it was bought by a movie company in Queensland. Happy days!😊

wow wow wow that is just servicing parts nothing major your right in a car that old but you end up flinging money at it and that engine will give up the ghost merc dont make springs or discs made by others so they just mark it up that work you have caried out is basic repair work maybe customer has left it to buid up over an amount of time and thats why it was so expensive
@godspeed63152 сағат бұрын
I personally wouldn’t spend that much on a car like (220cdi )at a specialist garage 😢😅however a buyer needs to look out for an old car with this sort of history . There are cars online that are looked after like this for a savvy buyer .
