As a connoisseur of champagne and who's first bottle was the 1996 Louis Roederer Cristal, yes Dom Perignon is worth it.
@jonathanwilson35155 жыл бұрын
A slight correction, Dom Perignon wasnt the first premium champagne, Crystal predates it by 50 years, but it wasnt publically available and only produced for the Tsars of Russia. That being said one thing that should have been touched upon is the agablity of Tete du Cuvee champagnes. Dom Perignon can age for 50 or more years in your cellar if you want therefore can be bought decades before use and is more appropriate for drinking during special events which planning is involved(and pairing) most MV champagnes only will age for 4-8 years so they are more appropriate for spur of the moment events. And things like prosecco are great for parties with maybe people that are neutral towards wine because it is easier to make mimosas or bellinis if the bottle only costs 10 dollars
@klaushaunstrupchristensen72523 жыл бұрын
So right you are, there is definitely a strong element of subjectivity in all wine preferences. I have newer liked sparkling anything, be it soft drink or wine. I actually get an uncomfortable sparkling in my nose and if I drink sparkling drinks quickly I get hiccups. So yes please give me a fresh quality Riesling or Chardonnay instead of a glass of champagne.
@florentlago22367 жыл бұрын
Mr Schneider, I have to say this is an excellent video and you pointed out the most important point: if you want to enjoy it properly you should be willing to be open to the message delivered by the wine and be receptive to it. A couple of advices from a french person who obviously loves this one in particular: 1 move away from the traditional flute and try to go for a more classical wine glass, the champagne will open better this way. 2- for great champagnes we use to say that this is more wine than bubbles so the wine aspect should come before the bubbles. Don't drink it as an appetizer but rather at table with your diner. Open your palate during the appetizer with a simpler champagne like any of the "brut" version you showed in your videos, then start your diner with your dom perignon, with a beautiful fish like "turbo" or even lobster and a sauce not too rich, you'll see that you'll take this to the next level. Finally if you want the equivalent from veuve cliquot (as you mentioned veuve cliquot at the start of your video) go for a "grande dame", absolutely fabulous as well !
@Vinilo-pl1pz7 жыл бұрын
Great gastronomic advice, Florent Lago. You must dine very well. And I cheerfully agree with La Grande Dame from Veuve Cliquot is excellent Champagne at a higher level like Dom Perignon.

I collect Champagne as a hobby and all of my glasses approximate a white wine glass. Even prestige glass makers such as Riedel have moved away from flutes in all but their least expensive lines. Upon reflection it makes perfect sense. After all, what is Champagne but a fantastic white wine? If you purchase gift sets (wine plus glasses in one box) from the major producers the included glasses will be the white wine style. If you don’t have Champagne-specific glassware, s glass designed for Pinot Noir or Nebbiolo will work well as will a glass designed for a rose’.

This is the second video I have seen list Dom Perignon as a $150 bottle. Where is it sold for that low? In my experience, Dom Perignon always sits around $200-$250 in the US. I'm referring to liquor stores, too. Not marked-up clubs or restaurants. The lowest price I have found it, is in only one Rhode Island store for $185-$189. Most stores in RI have it for $200-$225 and in higher tourist cities and states from Boston to Miami to LA, I have seen it run from $225-250 on average. I once found it being sold for $300 in a store in Vegas. I've never seen one for $150.

I collect fine Champagne and sparkling wine as a hobby. While I do have several bottles of Dom Perignon in my collection, it’s definitely not my favorite. At that price point, there are others that are better, and some better ones are even less expensive. Never underestimate the contribution that a proper glass makes to the drinking experience. It would seem one of the main reasons Dom Perignon is so much more expensive, is that it has to subsidize itself for all of the years where they do not produce anything. They still have to maintain their infrastructure at all times, so if you have nothing being produced from 2010-2014, you cannot let your company go under, so I imagine a lot of the profits during the years where they produce is used to maintain themselves during those off years. Can you imagine if a company like Apple took five years off of producing anything? They would probably go out of business.

Champagne is my. beverage of choice. I have a glass most evenings and often with breakfast or lunch. I am always happy when someone gives me a bottle of Dom. However, I am a "value" buyer so I rarely buy it for myself. One of the things that I like about champagne is the consistency of labels. Unlike still wines, I know what I am going to get. One exception to that rule is Dom. I think that it is fair to say that I have had some vintages that were "breathtaking," e.g. 2002. Never bad but some vintages were not special at all. As a value buyer who does not like surprises, I prefer non-vintage champagne. As to other sparkling wines, I prefer Cava to Prosecco and some Californias to either. It is all about the quality versus price.

I’ve never had Dom Perignon and while I’d like to try it, I’m in no hurry. I’ve yet to drink a bad champagne. I’ve never had the absolute cheapest - I draw the line at AU $40 at the bottom and AU $90 at the top - and I’m not aware of anything I’ve had above that. But there’s such a great selection I’m not going to get sick of them. I like the Heidsieck labels, Monopole and Piper, and I like the Perrier labels in that range too. Love Lanson, Moët, Veuve Cliquot, Pommery, Taittinger and there are lots more I’ve never tried (even Bollinger). So Dom is a way off yet and it will have to duke it out with Krug.

good on the point, however you can't really compare Champagne with Prosecco. In common they only have bubbles (not even tbh). A good comparison would be between a Champagne and a Franciacorta which shares the same vinification method.
@RobManser773 жыл бұрын
It comes down to taste at the end of the day. No wine is automatically better because of its cost, and both taste and sensitivity to taste will vary between people. First, if you have a sensitive palate, then all champagnes *will* taste different to you - they are most definitely not all the same, the variation is significant. Second, if check (1) and you prefer the taste of one champagne over the other, then you have to decide if it's worth the money or not. I've been to several champagne tastings and I know what my favourite champagnes are, but I've never bought a bottle of any of them, because I don't think they're worth the money compared to ones I like nearly as much that cost much less.
@guglielmozanussi92334 жыл бұрын
Firstly i tought it didnt't worth it, but then i've tasted the 2008 one which should be a quite young and simple version, but it changed my mind because i felt a big difference between this bottle and the others standard champagnes, so i think the difference of price is correct. It is very soft and It goes down very easly, pretty enjoyables flavours of fruit, apple, lemon and others. Of course nothing special compared to the best other champagnes that i've tasted, like Krug 166 and Vueve Cliquot la gran dame 1996; but surely a good champagne.

the 2008 vintage was the first release in Dom's history to be released out of order (the 2009 was released a year earlier) because the new Chef de Cave thought it was such a spectacular vintage that it would benefit from another year's ageing. 2008 was a terrific year for champagne, there are 8 or 10 offerings that are well worth hunting for.

Dom Perignon Champagne is a "tête de cuvée" champagne from the HUGE champagne house of Moet et Chandon. It is designed to please the "western palate" meaning that it is sweeter in style than other "brut" champagnes. "Belle Epoque" from Perrier-Jouet is also made in a sweeter style. Utimately, Dom Perignon is a good entry level vintage champagne made for the "sweeter American palate". High quality champagne but a little overpriced.

Sir, you didn't mention the maturing aspect at all. According to my experience most of the prestige champagnes (especially DP) do benefit from extra-cellaring. If you taste the recent vintage, it rarely expresses the reason why it's so expensive. IMO you should not drink DP before 16-18yr has passed from the vintage it's made! There are some variation if the vintage was not exactly good, so then it might work a bit sooner. Same applies to Comtes, Cristal etc

Veuve is not pronounced "voove". The correct pronunciation is Vuv, like love....as to told to me by the house of Krug. Dom Perignon "Dom is an honorific name" is credited with the art of blending grapes and picking grapes at night to maintain freshness. Hi real name was Pierre Perignon. Does anyone know why some of the Champagne Houses have German Names? Duetz, Krug, etc? Also the oldest Champagne house is Ruinart. The oldest Champagne house for producing still wine, not sparkling is Gosset

For the relatively low cost of the Perrier Jouet, I just can't see past it. Yet to try the Belle Epoque but it's on the list.

May I ask what you do for work? It seems like you live in a suit but I want to know where you show off these pieces on the daily. Love the videos, keep it up!
