@@vegas_party_animal7737 There is exactly 1 tournament legal card in the whole Pokémon TCG that is worth a lot of money, and that's Tropical Beach, which is a 2011 and 2012 Worlds promo that goes for like $500. They banned it from Expanded in Japan and if they follow suit in the rest of the world, the most expensive Expanded-legal cards are Computer Search (a $60 card you only need 1 of because you cannot run more than 1 Ace Spec card in the same deck), Dowsing Machine (same deal but $30) and then there's some 12 to 15 dollar cards. Most Expanded decks are about 150 to 200 USD. For the price of Modern Jund you can build a full gauntlet of the best Expanded decks that don't run Beach.

I (used to) work at a convention center. I've worked so many MtG, YGO, and Pokemon tournaments. I can tell you Prof. without a shadow of a doubt, that the Pokemon TCG treats their players the best. Free packs, people of all ages (I've seen GRANDPARENTS come to cheer for their GRANDCHILDREN playing in the junior league), packs for good sportsmanship, the most friendly judges I've had the joy to talk with, judges who knew many of their players by name, so many players who used to be kids and grew up playing in the junior league and were now playing in the master league... It made me want to play the game. It made me want to bring MY kids. They have something special happening that MtG and YGO are nowhere near.

On one hand I have to say most of it is for the game but on the other hand there are cards for collectors such as full arts and rainbow cards that are for rarity then competitive play as there is a cheaper alternative for that. Not to mention charizard cards which are mostly for the fact it's charizard not that it is a good card competitively for the most part. Then there are cards for jokes in some sets like the secret rares in xy evolutions. I think it is a nice balance

From this we have the disparity of: Functional Reprint for Chase meta cards: Building goals for players instead of having them case random cards. Basic playsets of required secondary cards: Making sure that when they play, even at mid levels, their decks function as they are supposed to. Supplies for a supplement: The expectation for this product is to be paired with another or have a preexisting concept of a deck. Unlike the MTG setup where the cards you get in them are kind of random, the core concept of the cards included in the toolkit are largely universal and gives you the resources to build. Though the MTG set does this too, a lot of the toolkit cards are jank. Cross platform usability: Oh, the days when we could redeem stuff. I stopped playing MTG arena and I don't plan to go back because I'm not invested enough to make it worth my while. But the inclusion of codes in this way? Yeah. Wizards definitely doesn't seem to understand that this sells a lot more packs. It costs nothing to do this and yet it is what feeds the popularity. Basic Tools: Probably the point that never ceases to amaze me- LOOK AT ALL THE STUFF THAT THEY GIVE YOU. I mean, the prof complains about quality, but it's enough to literally take the stuff, sleeve it up at a local LGS and just PLAY right there. You can buy more sleeves on site and generally have the desire to BUY MORE.

This is an awesome product! The price you used for the Dedenne GX is a bit misleading though. If you look to just before this product was announced, the price of those Dedenne GX was $30+ EACH. Which would make a single copy the price of this kit. That isn't even factoring that Boss' Orders was $10 or more before this kit as well. This is one of the best things to come to the TCG in a long time.

To Magic players unfamiliar with Pokemon TCG, before the contents were announced, here were the prices: ~$30 x 2 Dedenne GX ~$10 x 2 Boss's Orders ~$5 x 2 Professor's Research ~$5 x 2 Marnie Which means you'd have had to pay $100 for just these 8 cards. Now you get so much more for $30. Insane value.

At first I was like, what MTG product is that? I'd buy it! Wait, no this is what WotC SHOULD do in comparison to this product. They would also need to add a bunch of double copies of some of the best common/uncommon staples as well. How about 2x Wilderness Reclamation, 2x Omen of the Sea, 2x Ajani's Pridemate, 2x Growth Spiral, 2x Cultivate, 2x Lightning Bolt (then reprint it in a Standard legal set because it's not THAT busted in Standard and every other attempt at copying it is poor in comparison), etc. But then I guess if you have Lightning Bolt, no one would play all of the other variations on it, except maybe Scorching Dragonfire, but then they should just roll back to Incinerate. I also compare this to Magic Fest in a box and I'm like...for less money you get way more copies of useful cards rather than alt art/foil versions of just a few staples. But then again, MFiaB DOES include a playmat. But I'm actually gad that this product wasn't bumped up to $50+ just to include a playmat. My kids use my MTG playmats and the oldest does have his own Pikachu playmat. so they didn't really NEED that. This product is so much more about accessibility and way less about bling.

There are three reasons I’m a ptcg player and not mtg or yugioh (though I appreciate all tabletop games to some degree). The first being the community. The PTCG community (in my experience) has been the warmest and most welcome gaming community thus far. The trainer toolkit is second. Well, it represents my second reason which is the price. A tier 1 deck can be priced under a hundred and a lower tier or rogue deck can be as cheap as 30. WotC might have better prize support, but I rather be able to actually play competitively if I choose without going broke. Finally, I just enjoy PTCG more then other games. It’s, to myself, the best balance between being complex and just being fun.

Hi. I play Magic. I like Magic but I'm finding myself unable to justify buying many of their sealed products. My kids play Pokemon. I watched this video and I decided that it was well worth it to buy 2 of these from my LGS yesterday, which was the day I watched the video. I have 2 stepsons and a daughter, who all play. This was an amazing product for them because the things they need the most to build decks are energy and trainers. They have Pokemon. However, the included Dedenne cards were just an added bonus. And the fact that they had exactly 2 copies of the trainer/special energy cards, as well as 2 Dedenne was perfect. My stepsons were able to evenly split those cards and each got 2 packs from their box. The packs didn't offer much for them, at least until we grab a couple of Sword and Shield starters, but everything else was exactly what they needed and it was "fair" because they each got one copy of the special cards. I suggested that the Energy go into a common pool of energy to pull from whenever they need some for their decks. The 2nd box? That's for me and my daughter to split. to be "fair" she'll the exact same cards as the boys plus 2 packs. I'll get the other half of the box, which I'll generously share as needed. I do play with them but I don't really have my own decks right now. I just kinda play with theirs. eventually I'll build my own. I like how kids can just play this game without worrying about being competitive. So thank you, Professor. I enjoy your Magic videos, but this is the first product I've seen where I said "I have to get this now!". It was well worth it. There's so much value from the perspective of "my kids just need the cards to play." It's good that it stresses energy and trainers because I think a lot of kids just want to throw a bunch of Pokemon in a deck and call it a day. But while helping them build their decks, I was like, "You're going to need Energy and trainers too!" This product helped fill that gap. The other stuff was just icing. My youngest stepson needed the sleeves because the older one already had sleeves from a bundle he got a while back. But I have to agree that those sleeves are terrible. Some of them were cut differently so they were shorter than the others. I'll just have to get them some Ultra Pros so they have decent sleeves. But yeah for me, this was an A++ product overall even without the sleeves. My only other complaint was that it didn't come with 2 6-sided dice so each could have one but that was super minor because they CAN share the dice and status markers.

Energy sure is prettier now I find myself reading these cards as though they were magic cards. It seems really useful to have names for abilities on cards, not just keywords, this allows the ability to be referenced without saying stuff like "when etb do X, effects triggered by entering the battlefield from cards named can't be triggered more than once per turn" Though, from my overly methodical programmery mindset, it does read better than "you cant use more than 1 ability each turn" Honestly I feel like the pokemon market is somewhat healthier just because kids are less likely to obsess, and adults are more prone to repeated hyper-spending. Kids are more flippant and have more things to do, a less established life and so are more relatively comfortable changing their path, and because of that, wizards has a much harder time making money selling overpriced fetishes, so they need to make sure prices are fair to get a reasonable return. The lesson here is that adults should be more like kids in a lot of ways :P This is crazy, a card needs a reprint, they make a box with the reprint at the same price as the cards, the price of the cards drops, and the box with the reprints is still worth more than the card cost. What is this world I have stumbled upon

I love the Pokemon TCG, I especially like how the online client has a Theme Deck format so that beginning players can compete for packs in events by just buying a deck. Don't got the 500 coins, but got some bucks to spare? Just pick it up on various online sites that are selling the code for said theme deck, or just buy it in one of your LGS's. I bought one of these for myself and honestly it's one of the best products to buy to start playing the game. If you buy 2 you really have everything you need to build any deck and just spend about $50 for any deck. So you can build any tier 1 deck pretty much you want for around $100. A very great product I would reccomend to any Pokemon player

Part of the reason TCPi can do this is because for the most part they make the valuable rarest chase cards optional cosmetic versions of cards that are otherwise easy to get rather than must have cards with no other versions in the pack. For any outliers they have products like this to bring the price down to reasonable levels of $5-20. That way everyone can play but opening packs can still be fun as anything with any real value retains it despite some drops. drafting is fun too even if less complicated than drafting MTG.

At the start i was triggered by the "Dedenna" pronuntiation, but by the end you actually saw the card and fixed it to Dedenne so we good.

This product singlehandedly convinced me to quit buying standard legal MTG products and get back into the Pokémon TCG. I was basically waiting for Pokémon to reprinted Dedene to get back in, and here it is, as a two-Of! On top of a pile of much-needed energy cards (as a returning player, I got rid of most of mine when I left the game] AND two of basically every staple, rotation-proof trainer being played a competitive list at the moment, PLUS tournament legal dice and condition markers. It was the perfect product to compel me to jump off MTG’s slowly-sinking ship.

@@TheEmeraldboy100 I firmly believe scalpers exist and LGS jack up prices because the supply doesn't match the demand. That just means WotC isn't printing enough to maintain the low prices, and can simply print more and flood the supply to screw over scalpers and give LGSs no excuse to gouge prices.

Never even played MtG, but I'm always here anyway for the accessories and Pokemon reviews. This product is phenomenal value and it really shows how TPCi is focused on making the game as accessible as possible for everyone. We've had tons of highly competitive reprints in sealed products over the past few years. The Reshizard/Pikarom and Rayquaza/Necrozma battle decks were huge, we got tins for Zacian V almost right away, last year we got all the great Tag Team GX tins, and Tapu Lele-GX got several box reprints even if it was right near the end of its rotation. Even the trashiest of theme decks still contain staple trainers that make them a decent starting point for any new player. The Japanese market is crazy generous to its players too, but that's a whole other beast entirely. Also seconding that the sleeves in this particular product aren't the same as Pokemon's usual crap sleeves! They're still not *great*, but they're significantly better than the Elite Trainer Box sleeves and hopefully they'll continue to improve on the design. Right now I'd say they're at least playable sleeves that look nice, something you can use while trying out the game before investing in more long-term sleeves.

It makes me happy to hear you enthusiastically talk about Pokemon. I was big into pokemon before i dug really deep into Magic Arena and in turn Standard. Also, I found a really good Gardevoir deck to play that is very competative and personally fun for my play style, and I haven't found a want to play any other kind of deck. I do wish to build some old decks from back in 1999 but for now I'm still building my current magic decks.

So many things pokemon due in terms of theie sealed products just knocks it out of the park, they just printed their equivalent to the Challenger Decks in the aptly named league battle decks more specially the PikaRom deck which is literally missed maybe 3-5 cards to be the full version... great time to enter the game. Couldn’t be easier
