last time i bought a festival-in-a-box it was missing 75% of the order. It took over 6 months for wizards to even recognize there was an issue and even when they sent "the rest" of the order it didnt have everything again. ended up just doing a chargeback instead of bothering to get it fixed.

Honestly the collector packs and mystery box was enough for me. The collector packs together are about 120 bucks, which is already half the price. Treating the rest of the box as costing 130 was definitely enough for me.

That said Mystery Booster will not go to retail for ONE reason. It was a product designed by the convention committee to create a product that can be a convention exclusive, so short of convention bundles, there will probably never be a public release given how this product was even created or developed.

I did something similar as well, I didn’t really know anything about the past festival in a box, so I thought I was getting a good bang for my buck! Turns out previous years got some really good deals, especially in the drafting department. I’m still going to keep my order since it’s a silly set and looks fun to draft. But I’ll definitely be more wary in the future of these products.

Picked one up. My EDH group wants to try a draft, and folks have said this is a fun one for that, so I'm hoping it pays back in smiles. Do a couple drafts, if all's well and enjoyable maybe move to cube down the road if it seems all are on board.

They basically shot themselves in the foot with last year's box. Full chaos draft capabilities, actually useful cards, a single card worth 2/3 of the value of the entire box. There's almost no way they match that again. But at least they set the bar low this year. Maybe next year's comparison to this year's box will be more favorable.

I agree with everything, except the fact that we may get a MB2 Retail anytime soon, for two reasons. MB2 was financed specifically for Conventions by the Convention Team in WotC to have an exclusive thing. The whole purpose of this box is that you will only have access to it through the convention or FiaB. Second, the main thing that happened with MB1 retail is that Covid happened. WotC released MB1 Retail as a way to help stores survive the pandemic, while also not having any way of having conventions take place, so naturally they didnt want their whole print to go to waste. This time, if nothing happens, WotC have absolutely no reason to release MB2 as retail

worth noting there are 3 version of mystery booster 1, convention, retail, and convention reprint. notably the playtest cards between the original and reprint differed by having a 'the list planeswalker' symbol, as well as updated art in some cards. the original has retained value well but the mass produced reprint is of much lower value. the first festival in a box was also priced so the whole box was cheaper than the booster box alone, so its about equal to the original, but again that one only worked out because the others started to use reprints

In the grand scheme of things, I get boxes of MTG not to boost my asset wealth but rather to recapture the - *ahem* - Magic of seeing what each pack brings. Cool art. Intriguing flavor text. Neat combos. But now instead of a few packs here or there, adult money gives us dozens of packs to crack. I'd been away from the game for over a decade, and it still feels almost as grand as it did in the 90's. It'll be amazing to see what hits reprint in Mystery Booster 2.

Too expensive of a product for not enough value to try and flip anything due to it still being available. Like you said, anyone who wants one can just go get it theirself instead of depending on the secondary market. I'm just excited to get one for some MB2 fun with my friendgroup. Agreed, the price for included value is a little rough compared to past FiaB SLD, but it feels worth it for the chaos added to my collection and all the fun we'll have together with MB2. I plan on cubeshelling it for repeated random-draft nonsense.

I personally prefer the promos this go around over the mox opal. I have spots waiting for Orvar and Reya. Been passively waiting a few months for a Reya to show up at any of our LGS and they haven't. I do wonder if they will do a retail edition. I had talked to Gavin at Pax Unplugged when they did Mystery Booster 1 (I think it was the second event they had it at, gen con being the first) that the idea was that it would be convention only. That changed when COVID hit and conventions weren't going to be a thing for a while. At least that was my understanding, thought I could have been wrong. But if thats the case I wonder if they are going back to that plan of only having it be at convetions and seeing how it does that way.

This year's Festival in a Box feels mostly like someone in corporate Hasbro said to not sell Mystery Booster 2 directly, and to make it a package deal to create artificial scarcity. The Festival in a Box Vegas 2024 has token inclusions to pad the perceived value, to the point where WoTC might as well have included actual tokens, because they're at least useful game pieces.

In fairness, the Ponder and Swords to Plowshares promos (which came out earlier this year at previous MagicCon events) are around $30 or so each, which does make things a better better. Those prices will definitely go down a bit further, but given how they've been around for a bit now with market data, they'll probably still retain a good amount of that value. Honestly if I were to buy one of these those two cards would be the only real incentive here which is a bit of a bummer. I imagine the shift from draft boosters to play boosters and the "technical incompatibility" is why they didn't just run back the chaos draft aspect this year.

The choice of the collector boosters is interesting, because each set has very expensive bonus cards to gamble on. I think if they added a collector booster of Ravnica Remastered and Modern Horizons 3, nobody would have complained.

I was at pax west recently and pastimes events said they did not have any mystery booster 2 even for events. That was even though wizards is headquartered like 30 min away. I wanted to go to the convention, but realized that I couldn't afford the $2-3k cost. They were charging $280 for the mystery booster box full box sealed event at the convention. So, $250 for each box feels pretty close to how much the MSRP would be imo. Wotc charging close to to Masters boxes sounds like them. Also, only having these for festival in the boxes means they won't have to put any other box for FITBs going foward.

I miss the old promos, but I still feel it's worth the value. The promos, especially omnath and orvar, will go up in time. On top of that, collector's boosters, especially the ones selected, are exceptionally weighty. You either get dirt, or you get a ton of value. Wilds of eldrain has a metric ton of fantastic reprints, and lost caverns has some expensive pulls. Commander masters is just alright, but I feel they are overpriced compared to reprint value in recent sets.
