C2 is definitely the level where you really know a language good enough to work in an demanding professional context. The Polish language shares a lot of vocabulary with Russian. To me the Russian language matters because there are a lot of engineering science books and DIY books, you will not find in English or French.
@jorgruthschilling2 жыл бұрын
@@gee8883 In the European Union the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages ( CEFRL ) defines the Mastery Level C2 as follows: You can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read. You can summarise information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation. You can express yourself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations. We consider foreign students at the C2 level to be able to attend university courses in the foreign language that are intended for native speakers. IELTS is a very different test. The purpose of the IELTS is also little bit different in my personal opinion. You can still pass the Cambridge C2 Proficiency exam (CPE), which is more comparable with an original CEFRL C2 level.

Nice interview, I noticed how hard Russian grammar can be. Overall I completely agree the more languages you learn the richer you get culturally. Your Russian speaking club is one of the best places to start learning, I started with Rosetta Stone, and it wasn’t as complete of an experience as the speaking club was. I love Russian culture and history which really motivated me to learn Russian, although I am still at the very basic level for now 😅. Keep up the good work Eli, you are an inspiration ❤. Thanks 😊

For anyone who likes languages or working internationally knowing a Slavic language is essential and from all of them obviously Russian is the most useful one and not the hardest one. I was always between Russian and Polish because I have many friends speaking both, in the end I chose Russian and never looked back. And I also love how knowing Russian as enabled me to understand Polish a lot more too.

04:30 This saying is between Spanish and Portuguese. (Italian and Spanish mutual comprehension is simetrical) Spanish has a very simple vowel system (like Italian does) but Portuguese vowel system is a complex nightmare. Portuguese speakers can understand spoken Spanish but that isn't true in the oposite direction.

3:50 generally speaking, it's the opposite. If they are people with 0 previous experience with each other language, the Italians don't t get the words and pronunciation that are part of the perifery. For those from Spain, France, Portugal or Romania is different, as we almost always have cognates to our words or high culture terms coming from latin that we don't use that much but we know and help us understanding Italian. At least that's what I saw when studying in Italy, as the vast majority of Erasmus students from Spain, France and Portugal had near to zero experience but could guess a lot since day 1.
@estrafalario56122 жыл бұрын
I mean, - the clear cognates work in both directions, so "casa" being the same in Spanish and Italian helps both, and also with those only similar, like vecchio/viejo, puerta/porta or mayor/maggiore. - the key is in the really different words like mesa/tavolo. The Italian would think of a mess, a religious service. The Spaniard would think of a table...

My children are Russian and Italian mother-tongue :) But at home we usually speak (at least) 3 languages ... my big problem is that I am able to understand Russian but not able to speak, well making complex sentences ... seems a bit strange but it is. So I should start to learn 'seriously' Russian (at least to interact with relatives). On the other side knowing two latin languages I think makes it easy to learn the others ... (I fluently speak French and had no problem to learn the others, starting with Romanian while working in Bucharest). My boss spoke 7 languages (!!!) in 3 main domains (German, Latin, Slavonic).

I have made up for it now because I have been using Duolingo to learn and have been doing a daily lesson for 247 days. I want to read Chekov in Russian because his stories might make more sense to me. I've been telling people that the cyrillic alphabet is really easy to learn because it's the first thing they ask about when I say I'm learning Russian and it's true that it's not the biggest obstacle. But yeah I guess it does slow me down when reading, as opposed to learning a language with the Latin alphabet, I never really thought about it until Davide mentioned it.

Davide speaks an impressive kind of Russian btw. One correction: there is actually A TON of basic slavic vocabulary strongly related (not loanwords) to both romance, but especially germanic languages. So they are strongly related once you notice the patterns at least. The grammar overlap is also obviously huge.

Russia is one of the most beautiful country in the world, the history, the scientists, the arts like Bol'šoj, their people, everything is overwhelming beautiful there. The fact that ther is a war right now is not because of Russia but because of US that using NATO as their hammer starting from 1990 they began to absorb all the countries bordering russia and the last piece was missing which was ukraine which your president rightly and courageously opposed to protect you. The same thing happened when the Cuban crisis occurred in 1963 and the United States threatened thermonuclear war if the Russian missiles were not removed from Cuba. Russia, on the other hand, has tolerated for decades that the Americans plant missiles in Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Hungary and now also in Ukraine. You are on the side of reason as all the peoples of the world know, only the governments side with the USA because of subjection because they actually conquered Europe at the end of the Second World War and we are all their colonies. A hug to you and all the Russians, if it were possible tomorrow the vast majority of European populations would move to Russia and leave Europe available to the African peoples as well as the powerful of the world want like schwab, soros, etc. while you are live freely and quietly. народы мира любят тебя.

The history - invasions and imperialism, the science - abusing clever minds of colonized people and making everyone believe that all of those inventors were Russian, the art - the same. The US definitely has its interest, I won't argue with that. But the war is happening not because of NATO but because of Russian invasive nature. Such a big country can't survive with expending its territory. But empires fall and this one will do to. Think about it, Russia has tried to make Ukraine its slavor for centuries. And back then there wasn't NATO, there wasn't even the US at the time. And all this propaganda bulshit abou NATO being a thread, preventative measures and blabla is just... Well, bulshit. Why do you think Baltic countries are happy to be a part of NATO? Because they were once also occupied by Russia and they want to feel protected. And we Ukrainians want it to

Russian is a language of imperialism, brutality, terror. Fortunately it is a fast declining language as Russia faces an unprecedented demographic disaster and more importantly all countries of the former Soviet Union turn to their native languages and even switch to Latin alphabet (as Kazakhstan). As the result of Russian aggression it is believed that within the next 20-30 years in Ukraine Russian will become as "exotic" as for instance nowadays Portuguese. Moreover according to various estimates by the year 2100 no more than 50 million people will speak Russian worldwide.

@@jacopofolin6400 True: languages in themselves (grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation...) are neutral. And in any case, as Davide rightly said, Russian does not belong to putin and his people. It belongs to no-one. Nevertheless, it is russia that has weaponised the language and is using it for its abject propaganda, so it's only natural that people are inclined to move away from it.

Your argument has no sense, because with varying degree we can say so about many other nations and languages, for example: Chinese, Turkish, Greek, Latin, Spanish, German, and even (especially) about English. So don't forget that in every country you can find both good and bad people. Good luck to you!
