3:50 maybe the Type 93 would be useful if it actually got its Type 93 missiles (Type 91 Kai (Japans indigenous stinger replacement upgrade from 2007) modified to be a mounted launcher rather than handheld) which is a far superior missile. Replaced the photo-contrast mode with a combined IR/UV photo-contrast for better all-weather performance and flare rejection. “Improved manoeuvrability” not sure on the specifics here but we do have a report from the US as Japan attempted to export them (no sale - too expensive) that stated it was about on par with americas own AIM-9X. So I’d guess 40-50g+ potentially with thrust vectoring. Currently the Type 93 sits there with a missile almost 20 years too old that it technically can’t even fire and gaijin has the audacity to have been saying there’s nothing could’ve had for top tier aa the past 2 years.

Gaijin has always played fast, loose, and convenient with the terms historical, accurate, and balance. Lower tiers and at the beginning it seemed to really favor Russia but as time moved on it just became whatever new thing with a bit of power creep they wanted to drive sales. Whether that be GE or a new fangled premium. They are also not above leaving things nerfed or languishing to achieve that end as well ie the Type 93. The British Stormer is a similar example.

@@machinech183 I have a suspicion they're balancing the starstreaks around the British Apache. Even today I've had multiple games in the apache where i just spawned flew up, picked off 2-3 light tanks (usually 2s38's and 2M's) with the starstreaks and just landed again. iirc field tests in 1999 with the missile showed each subdart to have comparible kenetic energy to a bofors 40mm. Still, i miss the old days where you could roof kill or side pen t80s and t72s with the 70mm of pen it had.

It's aa performance seems to have dipped a lot because of la royals missile changes. Something that seems to be overdone in general for anything non-pantsir.

Meanwhile the Stormer HVM is 10.3. Almost completely useless as an AA. The only thing it has going for it is the Radar, which is very good, but the missile is so bad. It phases straight through planes most of the time, Helis can take up to 3 missiles center-mass and the tracking is now way worst. Gaijin is improving the progression a lot, but the balancing is just way off still.

Gaijin has a soft spot for aircraft, their whole company was brought to life with aircraft simulation. Probably one of the reasons all modern SPAA in the game is neutered one way or another. Still, having a Stinger just ignore all the flares and absolutely shitcan a Mig27 or ka52 is probably one of the most satisfying things in the game for me.

Got clapped yesterday in my german mig 29 from this thing in ground RB. Just came out of a dogfight, tought everything was fine, no ping from rwr at all, was 7-8k out of the battle field, thought no AA's were watching andd started to get back for another CAP pass then got suddenly slapped ! This thing will be really nasty ; the fact that it only have a mk1 eyeball is actually good for it for top tier as we are all used to get constant Pantsir pings haha

It honestly baffles me how the Ozelot remains at 9.7 while the Strela-10M2 and the Type 93 are at 9.3 while both of them have irl and now got optical tracking. the Ozelot didn't have nor did it ever use optical tracking so it didn't get it, and that's fair, however. why does it remain at a higher br than either of the two comparable SPAAs that are now much more capable than it? shouldn't the Strela and the 93 at least go up in br or at least have the Ozelot go down. gaijin tends to usually change br's after a change is made, not always, but that's usually their norm, before the optical tracking change, having a radar on the ozelot was a complete game changer over the type 93, since you could at least have a guess from where a plane was coming from, while with the type 93 you had to be scanning the sky (still have to), to spot a target. regardless of that, they are likely gonna be moved up in the next br change update

Saw someone else say the limited range ingame is because in reality it’s 14km range is with datalink guidance, and only goes to thermal in the terminal stage before impact. It’s launching in the terminal stage so it’s range gets limited.

I don't know about really messing with it to much. It doesn't really have a suitable lineup to back it up. Next closet vehicle in the lineup is 11.0 if you want to keep it with a decent bracket around it. Not saying the 9.0 lineup is bad but it won't be able to handle the 10.3 BR very well. So I'm guessing Gaijin is either going to nerf it or nerf it and move it to 11.0.

I've been enjoying this thing quite a lot I do feel like it could stay at 10.0 now this could be my Japanese bias talking but it's just so good at taking care of the su25 spam and I know not a lot of people are going to want to run it by itself anyway because they would rather run a type 90 over the type 16 or a type 74 but for me I don't mind now if it goes to maybe 10.3 or 10.7 I might be fine but if they do that I wouldn't mind them buffing the missile even more a little I have heard that technically in real life it could pull 40 g's but I'm not 100% on that because I have seen on the forms that gaijin said that is a different missile for the vehicle not sure if it's true but man this thing is very nice .

Basically bypasses the ir lock requirement. Tells the seeker to look at the dark thing floating in a light colored sky and allows it to be fired. Then when it gets closer and can finally see the thermal signature it tracks like normal.

Gaijin does NOT need to nerf this or any other SPAA with optical locking. If CAS players want to cry, go play Air battles. This is leveling the playing field for ground battle players lol. Also, take the locking method off auto. I don't have any problems locking heli's from 6.5km when I have it set to optical lock.
