The Chancellor Jeremy Hunt has admitted his Surrey seat could be won or lost by 1,500 votes as he faces a battle to political survival.
The Godalming and Ash parliamentary seat is a key target for the Liberal Democrat who are hoping to demolish large swathes of the Tory southern stronghold.
At the last election, Jeremy Hunt secured a comfortable 50% of the vote. But this time - could it be different?
The full list of candidates in Godalming and Ash is:
Graham Richard Drage - Reform UK
Paul Follows - Liberal Democrats
Jeremy Hunt - Conservative and Unionist Party
Ruby Tucker - Green Party
James Walsh - Labour Party
Harriet Williams - Women's Equality Party

@@quintuscrinis Huh? Sunak? Honest and pragmatic? He literally can't even be honest about his role in the 2008 crisis! How many "Five point plans" has he launched and demanded that the country judge him on? And how many of those PROMISES has he delivered on? What about the overt dishonesty of claiming that an independent assessment of Labour's policies meant that every household would pay £2000 per year more, when he had already been TOLD by his OWN TEAM that this was not true? Yet he continues to make this claim, even DAYS after it was disproven? Those are not the actions of an honest man! I really think you need to take a close look at the words you write, because even a cursory inspection would demonstrate how far away from honest both you, and Sunak, are.

@@deon700 This is the problem with the left wing vote. collectively left wing parties have had the majority of the vote in pretty much every election the last 30 years yet have only been in government for approximately half of that. Too often those on the left think "if I can't get all my own way, then I won't vote for them, even if the result of that is something even worse happens." We on the left need to stop stupid infighting and recognise that, right now, the primary goal must be to drive the Tories out. If Labour are best placed, vote Labour. If Lib Dem are, vote Lib Dem. My apologies to everyone, I will never make that mistake again, I have swung to the left since but I cannot bring myself to vote for Sir Keir. "...either something's gone very wrong for the Conservatives..." Definitely something's gone very wrong for the Conservatives --- ballsed up implementation of Brexit; highest tax burden for 70 years; collapsing NHS; no appreciable levelling up; gutting defense spending; no increase in real spending per pupil in education; the disgrace of water mismanagement; the revolving door of leaders; and the unmitigated disaster that was Liz Truss. I'm sure I've missed some but what I've noted is more than enough reason to throw the Tories out.

The Libdems will always find themselves in a kind of political wilderness, by the very nature of the party and history. It's unfortunate, because as this item shows, and if one listens to general interviews of Ed Davey, they are very often people with the empathy needed, and clear views on things such as water pollution. It shows how ruined our system is, with two main parties who will both generally enact/vote with whichever ideology they have at the time. Rather than the empathy and pragmatism that's needed.

They were partly in power from 2010-2015 and basically helped bring about austerity. Don't talk to me about supposed empathy, they enacted policies that caused over 300,000 excess deaths. They might come across as compassionate, but when it counted they did feck all to stop the most egregiously extreme Tory policies imaginable against society's least fortunate. I'll never trust them.

If only they had really focused on gaining the seats they were close on last time. They could have been a close 2nd last time round and be in with a shot of winning this time. We will have to see how a majority Labour government goes and what happens in 5 year's time.
@Gerry-Hat-trick
@Gerry-Hat-trick 7 ай бұрын
@@quintuscrinis I hope Labour get a big majority. Not because it's healthy, but because they'll have no excuse to not be bold and brave. They'll have to show that they mean business. We'll see exactly where they sit in the political spectrum. This time around, Starmer is Blair without the excitement, or as much optimism. Hopefully the LibDems will gain enough seats to be relevant, but not so many that we have a coalition. That wouldn't do anyone any favours this time. They'll probably lose votes, due to tactical voting, but enough seats to push Tories and Reform into 3rd, 4th, 5th place would be delightful 🙂

I wouldn't be surprised. The neo-liberals within the conservatives have turned the UK into UK plc, sold everything off to the highest bidder. The country and services are essentially run by a bunch of middle men who have asset stripped services, cut corners, put zero investment into infrastructure, whilst paying themselves and their shareholders and special interests massive dividends. Enough is enough.

Sounds unlikely, sewage is carried in pipes - although the pipes do do have overflow pipes into rivers that have been used quite a lot of late because the monopolised water companies don't have any reason to care or invest in upgrading the systems they use.

All water companies should be taken back into public ownership. Private water companies have no incentive to invest and improve the water systems, making the biggest profit is their main aim. Privatisation of water companies is just giving money away for no public benefit.
