I love that young man’s enthusiasm about the word of God. I’m currently experiencing the same joy. After being a disobedient Christian for the last 15 years ish, my dad and I have been studying the Bible every Thursday for 4 months and I can’t get enough. I listen to worship music when I don’t want to read. And I listen to the Bible when I’m at work, and we read every Thursday. And there’s nothing like reading Gods letters to us. And the way most people read this, based more on church tradition, wasn’t there until late into the 4th century. If you assume that Jesus is the word in verse 1, The most explicit reading promoted modalism which the church condemned in 262ad. the word (Jesus)was with God (the father) and was God (the father). The spiritual body of Christ is also called the church and the Christians are part of that one body of Jesus. So in the context of the verse you are talking about being one with Jesus means united in his word and spirit just as he is with the Father. When Jesus said, the Father and I are one, the Pharisees said to Jesus "you are a mere man claimed to be God". The Pharisees fully know the Tanakh so they know what Jesus is saying to them.

Not once does Jesus claim to be god; it was due to the Jewish high priests claiming him to be god, which in turn got him executed. They feared what he would do to their power structure, and rightfully so he tore them down. To claim to be god was blasphemy and a crime punishable by death. ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️ I am a member of the Bahai Faith. When Jesus claimed that “before Abraham was I AM”, or when he said, I and the Father are one, and so on, it does not mean that he was God. He had already mentioned that he can do nothing without the Father and that it is the Father that tells Jesus what to say: “And I know his commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say.” (John 12:50 NLT) So it is not Jesus that was speaking but the Father who was speaking through him. The other point is the question of essence. Jesus was not the essence of God but reflected all the attributes of divinity. Attribute and Essence are two whole different things. Our knowledge of reality is merely the knowledge of the attributes and not the essence. We don’t even know the essence of a single atom, much less knowing the essence of the God that brought it into existence. Jesus never claimed to be the essence of divinity but just reflecting Its divine attributes. This is why Jesus said: …. “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. (John 14:9 NIV) “Seeing” is the faculty of sight, both physical and spiritual, and in both cases the only things that can be perceived are simply attributes and not the essence. The relationship between Jesus and the essence of divinity is like the relationship between a mirror and the sun reflecting in that mirror. God was reflected in Jesus just as the sun is reflected in the mirror. So, just because the sun and all its attributes are reflected in the mirror, it doesn’t mean the essence of the mirror is one with the essence of the literal sun which is at a distance of 93 million miles away. Similarly when Jesus said: “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9 NIV), he was not saying that the essence of God is identical with him, or that he was God. Even if Jesus literally said: “I AM GOD”, that still does not mean that he was one with the ESSENCE of God. Its the concept of the Trinity. Which we can't fully understand because we are humans and God is God. But there's the Father (simply called God), the Son (Jesus), and the Holy Spirit (called the Holy Spirit). They are one being, but 3 parts or "versions", existing all at the same time. It's not really a possible idea in our reality, so it's a big debate as to whether it's true. But God is not bound to our universe's laws of nature, so it's possible for him. Doesn't do a justice to God's depth, but the closest comparison I've heard is like water. If you take a giant ice cube, put it in a pot on the stove and turned the temp up, there would be a point where there is ice, water and gas in that pot at the same time. They're referenced as different things for their different forms. But it's all just water from the same ice cube.

Jesus is 100% God and 100% man. He is God in a human body. God humbled himself to the point of becoming human in order to save us from sin. John 1:1 says that “in the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God” which explains that God has always been and is eternal and His word the Bible has always been and is eternal. John 1:14 says “the word became flesh (Jesus) and dwelled among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only son who is from the father full of grace and truth.” If we know that the Word is God, and we know that the word became flesh, then the God became flesh in Christ alone.

In the 56 no verse Jesus says to the Pharasise that, thier father Abraham had a vision about the Promisesed Messiah. So he claimed to be the Messiah. 3. If Jesus said "I was" instead of "I am" that means Jesus is claiming about his existence before Abraham. 4. "I am" doesn’t means he existed before Abraham. In Exodus 3:14, Elohim says to Moses "I am who I am" so, its clrear that Jesus was telling Elohim/God existed before Abraham, he aint talking about himself [John 10:30] "I and the Father are one" 1. In the 29 no verse Jesus already said "The Father who hath sent me is greater than all" 2. If you think "All" doesn’t include Jesus then, read John 14:28 where Jesus says "My Father is Greater than I" 3. Here simply "one" means one in purpose which means unity. 4.If you dont believe me then, read John 17:21-23 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one-as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. Plz one like for my efforts. Notice how all this “proof” of scripture never has Jesus say he is God, they are all insinuations based on our understanding of what he said. Jesus is the SON OF GOD. He has said he is the SON OF GOD. Not I am God. The Father is God. I am not negating his diety at all, i am a follower of Christ and he has redeemed me. With Cliff’s explanation ( LOVE HIM!!) He basically says the trinity is false, but still claims Jesus is God through his explanation.
