Hey DJ...solid video. I like the points that you bring up...as with Linux, we enjoy a relative scarcity of Malware/Virus vectors...mainly due to everyone is focused on Windows. I first used Zoom about 4 years ago. And have been supporting it on and off since then. I've always appreciated the relative ease that supporting Zoom has allowed me to do from a Help Desk perspective. And the new non-technical user can join a meeting...or create one fairly easily. IMO easier than some of the other enterprise meeting packages...at least from a Support perspective. I've actually got a Zoom premium account that i use for a Church function on a weekly basis. Your comments about the non open-source now has me questioning that decision. I'm going to do some digging and will reply back to this video if I later make a change. And oh yeah...if you've got any kind of live event upcoming...please count me in! Let us know when and where...and as long as it's not 7-9pm CDT Saturday Nights...I'll be watching and chatting away :) Thanks as always!

Jitsu has a centralized server model? Im positive it started out promoting a decentralized model when they started out as an interoperable IM program. In fact, I think I distinctly recall them saying they only made use of IM servers as a look up registry, and once communication had started, it would go into p2p mode. Seems they've backtracked on their ideals, unless im totally off base. Or perhaps, there simply was no feasible way to do what they first proposed but I doubt it as im sure p2p audio conferencing apps exist, albeit probibly just one on one.

Why can't Jitsi replace Zoom?

Good video. Jami is an alternative to these. I wonder why there are no good chat/IM/conference applications. Either they are to complicated for normies (Tox) or bloated (electron based) with flaws and security problems (WhatsApp, Skype, FB messenger).

Thanks Markus and thanks also for the tip on Jami. Electron, yeah gotta love "security" quotes like this one from their website: " As web developers, we usually enjoy the strong security net of the browser - the risks associated with the code we write are relatively small. Our websites are granted limited powers in a sandbox, and we trust that our users enjoy a browser built by a large team of engineers that is able to quickly respond to newly discovered security threats." LOL

Not only security problems, but WhatsApp, Skype, FB messenger and all others, don't have End-to-End encryption. The encryption is only in traffic until it arrives their servers, then as Zoom, it's un-ecrypted, in the server for normal operation like transcoding or any other work that is to do, then encrypted again to the destiny. The have an end-to-end encrypted video conference, you need to host Jitsi in your house or a server that you manage. But that's not a flaw, it's how the service is done normally, so just don't expect that end-to-end encryption is real.

But jitsi meet has a big weak point, that is when you are sharing screen, you cannot see other person's small screen, therefore you don't know what they are doing when you are sharing screen.

DJ Ware, I am sure you are aware (pun not intended) that in ALL orgs with 50? and above people, have at least 1 propaganda CCP officer, just like in Soviet Union, so to give benefit of doubt to Zoom or any China company is ignorant at best and disingenuous at worst. But you are right, open sourcing it would be a step in the right direction but will not stop the control of streams from the central servers in China. They have to make it peer to peer and non centralized.

Jitsi is great. However, if you want the full features, use BigBlueButton - a secure and free and open source platform. I would stay far away form Zoom unless maybe they license all of the source code in a free software compatible license which I don't think the idiots running the company will do, but will be really happy if I am proven wrong.
