I’ve been living a ketogenic lifestyle for 17 months now and started to include intermittent fasting along with extended fasting and I’ve lost 120 lbs and 10 sizes. Now I do OMAD and fast at least 3 to 5 days at least twice a month sometimes more. I feel better than ever. I just turned 43 but I feel better now than I did in my 20s 👍🏽👌🏽🙌🏽😊. Have since been to doctor to have all my numbers checked 👍🏽 and just as I suspected, I’m in great shape. I can’t stand doctors who live in the past and say negative things about ketogenic living without doing some good research. I only side effect i felt was in my wallet when I had to buy all new clothes 😉. I’d rather spend my money on good quality food and clothes then on medications. That whole genetics is true to a point. It’s simple, if a mom ate nothing but sugar and processed food during her pregnancy than of course her child would be at risk for having medical issues. But, if a mom ate good quality healthy fats, moderate protein with lots of vegetables then her child would be at lower risk for medical issues. It’s not rocket science. It’s never too late to undo years of bad eating. My mother is 77 and has reversed her type two diabetes and my father is 73 and has reversed his high blood pressure problems. they are in great shape and very active for there age. We are a proud healthy ketogenic family and never going back. I tried it the old way and never got any results but ever since I took my health into my own hands did my due diligence and research I feel better than ever. Keto on 🙌🏽👏🏽👌🏽👍🏽😊😉

@@sandybeach368 I never pay attention calories. I pay attention to what I eat and most of all when I eat. My eating window is only 1 to 2 hours once a day. Everybody is different and depending on the person and what types of medical situations they have, if any. Before weight loss can occur, you have to heal the inside of your body first. Eat the right kinds of foods and healthy fats. Keto has changed my life. I had high blood pressure, an A1c of 10.6. On 10 months of Keto, my blood pressure is near normal, my A1C dropped from 10.6 to 4.8 and I have lost 116 pounds. Oh yeah, my triglycerides? Went down by 50%. Most importantly, I feel great. And here's the kicker.... I am rarely hungry, and I like the foods I eat. Yes, I miss donuts and pasta. But I get to eat lots of stuff I really love.

I am a 17 year old who has had to deal with junkfood cravings, stress/emotional eating, low selfesteem, and anxiety. Just recently I have started a low carb diet with my parents, and it has helped so much! Everyone says it is not sustainable, but just about every carb packed treat can be replaced with a low carb version and I can eat it knowing that it's healthier. Also, after meals I used to not be able to eat until I was full, however, now I can because I need much less food to feel like that. They say it's a diet, but it's a lifestyle.

November 3rd I weighed 303 pounds, I am currently at 241 pounds. I lost 62 pounds in 4 months. My BMI went from 49 to 38. I did Keto with IF. I have dieted many times over the years and never lost more than 20 pounds. I have never weighed so low in my entire adult life. Whether keto is bad for you, or not(it's not), I am far healthier now than I have been since I was a kid.

I enjoy reading these stories.I can relate to over the 300 hundred mark.I started keto at the end of a Nutrisystem diet.I'd lost 11 12 lbs in a month on Nutrisystem,but couldn't afford to continue.When the food ran out I switched to Keto I think it was june 28th.I'd ran across Dr. Boz while searching for a new diet that was cheap,and read her book and from there I have been doing the best I can with it. It has helped me a lot.I don't claim to know everything about Keto.I'm sure there are lots of people willing to advise and comment.I'm now on day 26 of this way of eating and I got to say. Wow,I weighted in this morning at 297.8.not to shabby,when I went below 300,I was overjoyed.hav'nt been under that in over 6 years. Here's lil health back ground.I'm in heart failure and I am in A-fib.I've been getting worse.A few years ago it was triple bypass.I think this way of eating is gonna change my life for the better.I know what ketosis means and what it does.I don't feel draggy all the dang time,before I always wanted a nap.Yes I'm lil lazy but not that bad lol.I sure didn't mean to write a letter but like I said stories like yours are a real inspiration for me thanks for sharing.....Congrats on your loss kepp on keeping on

I had flushing, sharp chest pains, and palpitations from age 18-31, eating a low fat, low cholesterol, low sodium diet. i went vegetarian and it very slightly improved, but then i started experiencing type 2 diabetes symptoms. 6 months after starting a ketogenic diet, all the heart issues went away. All symptoms and markers of type 2 diabetes decreased faster than that. I've been eating this way for 5 years now and would never consider going back.

@r laze I wasn't. I was cooking every meal from scratch, and buying all organic food. Just admit that it doesn't work for some people.
@neptronix
@neptronix 5 жыл бұрын
@r laze I wasn't consuming sugar and there is no difference between added sugar and sugars anyway ( that's sort of a more recent way to backpedal on the harms of sugar.. ) For me, it was the carbohydrates, which also turn into sugar in the blood. A vegetarian and vegan diet is naturally high in carbohydrate and low in fat and protein. The diet i eat today is basically the opposite. I found out that i only do well below about 50 grams of carbs a day. As a vegetarian trying to follow the food pyramid, i was eating more like 200-300/day.
@neptronix
@neptronix 5 жыл бұрын
@r laze I agree that they shouldn't be part of the diet and a lot of our health issues in the states can be traced back to them. I genuinely have type 2 diabetes; you could say it's in remission though, as all blood work indicates otherwise - unless i go back to carbohydrates. I ate like crap when i was younger. Tons of sugar and grains. I started vegetarianism and then veganism with a broken carbohydrate metabolism. It made the diabetes that was lingering much worse. I never met the threshold for having diabetes until i tried the high carb, low fat plant diets.. I even tried eliminating all sugar, yet.. the rice, wheat, corn, etc i was eating convert into sugar in the body anyway, so that was no help at all.

It was very decent and humble of Dr. Thorn to "not promise to give a definitive answer" regarding the causes of heart problems. The cholesterol-and-saturated-fat alarmists, like Ancel Keys, the AHA, and the federal government had no qualms at all about declaring their wildest guesses to be the definitive answers.

it is simple carbs, flour finely ground, in baked products, that spikes insulin more than sugar itself. Our diet problems come from the producers of high carb products…cereals, cookies and cakes. Dr thorn is great at spelling it out. Great video.

Great video, I came for a little reinforcement, received a lot. I'M at amost 4 weeks of eating a keto diet, and I felt bad for about 18 hours, between day 3 and 4 (keto-flu I'd guess). Woke up the fourth morning feeling better than I have in a long long time. Chronic joint and muscle pain (it's obvious now this was just inflammation) gone, litterally overnight.. constant hunger and cravings gone. Now I get hungry once a day, and I eat once a day. I wasn't trying for IF or OMAD, just happened naturally..

My parents Cholesterol was fine on keto. My LDL went from 2 mmol/l to 5 mm/l. I want to check my LDL particle size. And even if my LDL goes super high. I dont care.....LDL is not a good biomarker for cardiovascular disease. Seriously though.....if you lose weight, cure insulin resistance, hypertention is reversed and you feel better......would you really want to go back just to lower LDL? I think that fixing obesity, hypertention, insulin resistence is more important than quiting the diet cause of LDL

I just started Keto a week ago. I am a 77 year old slender life long athlete. 5'9" 145 pounds Waist is 29 inches. I spent all my life on a high carb diet. I diagnosed myself with an insulin problem. Haven't been to a doctor since 1986 mainly because I haven't needed one. Other than broken bones from lifestyle like motorcycle racing etc. I never get sick. I don't even get colds. I have been on a low or as little fat as possible all my life but a ton of sugar. This is a 180 change for me as a life long carboholic. So far so good. Probably not in full Keto yet but feel fine and my training has continued at the same rate. I have lost 2 pounds that I didn't think I had to lose. I do my own blood pressure and blood sugar. Thank you for the video.

Dr Kraft's hypothesis was that heart disease is diabetes. Diabetes which has been diagnosed or not diagnosed (high levels of insulin). High levels of insulin = insulin resistance. The problem is fat. Viceral fat. KETO may aid in fasting, lowering insulin levels and getting rid of viceral fat.

Bacon, sausage or ham for breakfast. Ham, turkey, hamburgers at lunch time. Steak, chicken, fish for dinner. It just seems to make sense that we were designed to eat maet. The veggies and fruits are just a tasty treat to go along with the meat!

When their primary care physicians insisted they take them again, they relapsed. Thing is that cholesterol is ESSENTIAL for every single cell in the body to function properly!! EVERY ONE of them! And cholesterol levels are not related to coronary artery disease, to atherosclerosis in general, OR to brain/neuro health. Listen to what this doc says. PLUS there are negative side effects with statins. That cholesterol is bad for us and causes health problems is a MYTH.

Kate Harmon the same thing happened to me. According to Dr Sarah Hallberg, a lipidologist, about 1% of people following a ketogenic diet have an increased LDL. Over the course of 3 years my LDL climbed to 388. My body has never responded like the established “norm”, so I wasn’t surprised. I made a few minor changes which resulted in dramatic improvement in a short time. I added some healthy, high fiber carbs and became more consistent with my walking routine and in 5 weeks my LDL dropped 186 points. Where I may not be technically “keto” at this time, I am still LCHF. I was unable to convince my family doctor or the cardiologist to do an NMR, so I don’t have the more detailed information. But the results surprised the cardiologist enough to stop the push for statins. Everyones body is different. There is no one size fits all. It’s just a way of eating. Nutritional plans need to be fined tuned to meet the needs of the individual. I imagine my history of Insulin resistance plays a role in all this. I was willing to give up “keto” per se and focus on my personal health over ideology.
@dadesway
@dadesway 5 жыл бұрын
@@michelephelps1087 For piece of mind for anyone unable to get an NMR analysis of their LDL particles . . . It is suggested looking at the triglyceride(TG) / HDL-C ratio. If TG (mmol/L) / HDL-C (mmol/L) is < 0.8 there are few small dense LDL . . . if TG/HDL-C > 1.8 then there are too many sdLDL. This is described in an entertaining KZbin video: "Dr. Paul Mason - 'Blood tests on a ketogenic diet - what your cholesterol results mean'" (He also gives the above ratios using US units) My sister - highly athletic also appears to be a Low Carb Hyper Responder - Her TG/HDL-C ratios were superb but had a significantly high TC level. Her doctor (UK) slipped into automatic and wanted to start her on statins. (This even though no study has found any benefit in overall mortality and CVD mortality in using statins IN WOMEN) . He was surprised when she mentioned her reluctance . . . then became very cold when she asked about the issue of getting statin induced diabetes . . . like her brother (me). He wanted to know where she was getting her information . . . I sent her 3 A4 pages of studies describing (a) the weakness of the diet - heart hypothesis and (b) the poor evidence of the efficacy of statins and the harms they can do. I do not think she has dared to give the information to her doctor.

Damien Sanderson thanks for the info. My Trig/HDL ratio is 0.6. The different online cardiac risk calculators give me a 2% chance of having a major cardiac event in the next 10 yrs, one gave me a 4% chance. ... I have a greater chance of getting hit by a bus! I can relate to what your sister experienced. Many doctors practice assemblyline medicine. They come in, write a prescription for whatever, send you on your way, move on to the next. When you come in with information from your own research you gum up the process and flow of things. They also don’t want their pride damaged by appearing less informed than their patients, so they immediately dismiss us as ignorant, naive and gullible. There is also the issue of doctors being afraid to go against accepted standards of practice and getting sued, which is a reasonable concern. Sad thing- I live less than 25 miles from a medical university, but can only find one practitioner that understands the issue, but he’s a fertility specialist. 🙁

I found this video doing research for a friend that's having heart issues (chest pain and trouble breathing) after about 1.5 years on keto. She ended up in the hospital where testing showed 80% blockage of one of her smaller arteries and 30% blockage in one of the large ones (AKA the widow maker.) The cardiologist she was assigned to said "No more keto". I'm trying to help her figure out where to go from here. She's only 44 and has normal blood pressure. Her weight is good and she's never had heart issues before, other than pre-eclampsia during pregnancy. She said she does have a lot of heart disease in her family though. Something else I suspect is related is that she has a condition similar to rheumatoid arthritis, so an autoimmune disease. This leads me to think leaky gut and food sensitivities are causing inflammation that might be a contributing factor. Or maybe the meds she's on causing vitamin deficiencies, or just genetically prone to vitamin deficiencies? Putting this out there in case someone else has been through something similar and can share insight.

@AdaptYourLife
@AdaptYourLife 5 жыл бұрын
Patrick van meter very good question. Plaque is the build up of fat and cholesterol. This answer however, may give the wrong message. Cholesterol is vital to life and we couldn’t live without it. The type of “cholesterol” is very important. The simplistic explanation is that sugar causes inflammation which causes the small dense LDL particles (not preferable) to become embedded in the artery walls. Cutting sugar and carbs reduces the inflammation as well as promotes “large, fluffy” LDL cholesterol particles (preferable) it’s impossible to explain this fully in this thread, but as mentioned, this is the simplified version 😊

Re your question: Bear with me as I give answering your question a shot. From all the information presented by doctor's and scientists and to try to give you an easy explanation which may over-simplify the information, I will try to help you with some information. My disclaimer is I am not a doctor but instead a "citizen scientist/a healthy to old age advocate". Calcium is derived from what we eat - true. Our body holds calcium stores in our bones, teeth, etc for skeletal strength and physical growth and health. Our body does not always correctly process (absorb) that calcium in our food sources - true. Our body uses calcium very efficiently to "repair damage" to the "walls" of our vascular system which exists throughout our body. This process keeps us alive and so we live a while longer while the human body is sick. It's the duration (time span - years) of "the sick body" that leads to disease levels that kill us or threaten our length of life. Back to calcium. There are so many processes involved in this - so here are some of them I am aware of: The body requires a group of vitamins/minerals/fats including vitamin K (1 & 2) to put calcium in "the right places". We like to have calcium preferably in bones and teeth, etc. On the topic of Vitamin K. I've listened to two camps, One that it is not advisable to use a supplement due to the risk of clotting and interaction with medication and another that, aside from the medication aspect, it is fine to take a K2 supplement. (? who do you believe?) In addition, if the person with this issue is eating a diet of processed carbohydrates their body is most likely suffering under the "blood glucose load" which is among the root causes - a significant one - but not alone. Genetics come into play, but we can influence our genetic code through what we eat and how we live and respond to our daily life. Then there is information available that you need a healthy digestive system to efficiently breakdown the foods that contain the healthy saturated natural fats (this includes your very important gall bladder) so that your bile breaks down dietary fats efficiently for the body to extract the soluble nutrients it needs to be able to use vitamins, amino acids etc to put "things like" calcium in our bones and teeth instead of in our vascular system BUT..... if "the vicious cycle" (my words) of high blood glucose (that comes from processed carbs, like grains and starches, including all types of sugars) continues the outcome in the human body is insulin shovelling blood glucose into cells because regulating blood glucose/sugar is essential to life. When an individual's body reaches its "tipping-point" vascular disease begins and when this begins the body responds like a paramedic sealing over the injuries wherever they occur in our vascular system, with you guessed it "CALCIUM' (this is a protective mechanism) ...... so it's not just about not eating calcium; or, Where does the calcium come from? Our body will take the calcium it wants or needs out of our bones and teeth whether we eat calcium rich food or not. We need to be taking a holistic view of what's going on and go back to WHY is the calcium there. Then, "Where should it be?" and "What is needed for it to be in the right places?" and then we can work towards managing the problem at hand and maybe even be successful in preventing further progression of the degenerative disease process. Research is the answer to your question because it will bring you to a place of understanding and empowerment. I hope I have helped you in some way. All the best. EBA

Couldn't watch this much past ten minute mark, total BS. Don't even care whether or not it was decided keto is bad for your heart. As a person diagnosed with atherosclerosis, hypertension stage II bordering on crisis, high cholesterol and was scheduled for stints, I seriously raise the BS flag on saturated fat not causing coronary artery disease. I got a second opinion from another doctor and cardiologist and they both concurred I was going to need intervention to save my life. At the time I was diagnosedI was not overweight, I didn't smoke, drink any soda or alcohol, I didn't do drugs and I exercised regularly. By the way, no one in my family has heart disease. My heart disease was caused 100% by my diet and eating what I could while serving in the military for over twenty-four years. After my retirement I ate what is considered according to the American Heart Association a healthy diet. 99% of my diet was lean protein like fish, chicken, turkey and veggies and grains. My parents were farm to table produce farmers, I grew up on veggies love them all (except eggplant) veggies were part of my diet daily. First doctor told me it wasn't my diet, it was hereditary despite no one in my family ever having heart disease. My second doctor called BS on the first doctor when it came to the cause but agreed something had to be done or I was going to die. My second cardiologist a 75 year old Indian women flat out told me she could cure me but I had to listen to her and follow her direction to the letter. Well considering I was looking at stints and a life time on fists full of prescription drugs that could kill me with all the side effects or I could be cured and not have to take pills the rest of my life and be healthy, I agreed. The very next day I went whole food plant-based vegan, eliminated all animal products from my diet, also got rid of all added oil and salt and within weeks my BP was down, my energy was through the roof, three months after that she took me off my cholesterol meds, six months she halted my BP meds and 9 months after that I was 100% off all meds and my BP was below 120 consistently. Coming up on my two year mark and I have the labs of a twenty-five year old athlete. Skin cleared up, sleeping cleared up, joint pain gone, chronic migraine that I have suffered from since 1999 from a head injury are about 95% gone, digestion issue gone. If some study says that saturated fat and animal protein does not cause heart disease, I would seriously look at who is funding and benefiting from those studies.

So I take it this does not apply to Asia, Africa and South America. Speaking for Africa....carbohydrates is the main type of food but we do not have many heart attacks.

Adapt Your Life, there will be diabetes and obesity cases everywhere. It’s not bad. But we cannot declare carbohydrates the enemy. Corn is the main staple diet and eliminating it is not sustainable at all. Normally it’s porridge with peanut and sugar for breakfast, Sadza (made of corn) and kale for lunch, Sadza again with meat and vegetables for dinner. So it’s an everyday thing. If it was that bad Africa would be having a very Low population due to diseases from “carbohydrates”

Lorraine Muzondi we disagree. We think diabetes is bad, especially if it’s you that has it. Diabetes and obesity is on the rise and the public has a right to know what’s making them sick. Carbohydrates are not bad or the enemy for insulin sensitive folks, for people that are insulin resistant, it’s enemy #1

Lorraine Muzondi what other metabolic diseases are the problem there and can they be tied in excessive carbs?

Fat is what causes insulin receptor problems in the first place, then "refined" carbohydrates will spike blood sugar. Many people are perfectly healthy on a WFPB low fat diet, this is well documented. In addition short term KETO good results may not be the same as long term results.

@@AdaptYourLife The Mayo Clinic is a start they say"Mayo's verdict: While the ketogenic diet may be recommended for some people with uncontrolled epilepsy, the high fat content - and especially the high level of unhealthy saturated fat - combined with limits on nutrient-rich fruits, veggies and grains is a concern for long-term heart health.

Ray J this is an opinion and not backed up by any science that we know of. Would be very interested to read a credible RCT study that demonstrates a keto diet is shown to be dangerous
@AdaptYourLife

Hi Ray J Have you looked into this particular prospective study? Specifically at what they consider to be a “Low Carb Diet”. This is the exact reason why this study cannot be taken seriously when making the statement that a low carb diet is detrimental to ones health. When seeking to find conclusive and sound results from a study, it’s important to understand how the study was set up, what kind of study and who it was funded by. The gold standard for scientific study’s is the “RCT” (Randomized control study) This was not a RCT study and there is no RCT study (that we are aware of) that demonstrates that a properly formulated Keto Diet is harmful in any way.

Had a bad reaction to Keto diet. Diabetic on insulin...Cannot keep a sustainable diet on an extreme diet. I am losing weight on good olive oil, avocado, 2 meals a day, no process foods ...but do control the carbs. Body needs Carbs. I eat good fat hardly any Trans fat except peanut buttern

"body needs carb" No it doesn't, humans do not need to consume a single carb from birth to death to be perfectly healthy.

I fully support all your conclusions but I am not sure I am basing that just on the evidence you presented. Too many of the slides you showed had text that was impossible to read and/or you gave insufficient explanation of what was being shown. I feel you did this important information a disservice by not seeing your own presentation from the audiences point of view. I doubt very much even the members in your audience in attendance could read or fully understand what you were showing. Sorry for the negativity but this is just too important let this slipshod approach slide by.

@AdaptYourLife

David Langley it’s not that fruit is “Bad” it’s that our bodies don’t know the difference between sugar from fruit or sugar from bread. When sugar comes in, it needs to be dealt with by insulin. For people with metabolic issues, it’s the insulin that causes the problems to begin with. Here is an easy test you can do yourself. Get a glucose monitor and test before eating fruit and then test 45 minutes later. If your blood sugar is raised, your body needs to secrete insulin. We only have around 7g of sugar in our blood at any given time for example eating a banana (28g of carbs - sugar) will mean that you have 4 times the sugar in your blood, insulin will need to be secreted. Folks with metabolic issues have insulin resistance.
