Fun fact: Jeff Lew, the creator of killer bean forever, first worked on the third matrix movie in the VFX department, he started killer bean back in 2009, he made an animated short that was remade for the beginning of the movie, then he made a series that would take place after the ending of the movie, and now he’s working on a killer bean open world video game.

Something to take note of this movie is the fact that initially, it was supposed to be a 40 minute special. Jeff Lew, the creator, had a whole behind-the-scenes video of the film. It started as a short from the 90s, simply titled "Killer Bean". The video itself is... the video of time. In all seriousness, it was amateurish, but considering the fact that at the time, the only CGI movie that had came out was Toy Story and Pixar were the ones with all the fancy 3D technology, it's impressive, as it was a student project. Eventually, the early 2000s came along, I think 2002, and he made a sequel, which is basically the beginning of this film. At that point, he wanted to make a 40 minute special to go along with it, which was a continuation of what happened in that short. But he had a lot of ideas going around, until he decided to give in and just make a movie with it. The way this movie was animated is actually very simple. It came out in 2008, which is, again, impressive seeing as it was overall made by one person with some voice actors, and stuff like Blender was not good with 3D animation. The eyes were part of a tracker, and the mouths were simply audio-synced, which is why it shows JUST bean-skin underneath them. They're basically just a donut that's squashed to open when the audio is played. Ragdolls are used constantly, which just make the movie look more funny in my opinion. And of course, at times there are motion-captures. I think Jeff Lew himself did the motion-tracking. Surprised y'all didn't call out the beans being perfectly in sync with eachother, considering the fact that you guys always call small stuff out like that in movies. For what it is, it's a very cool bit of 3D history, and it certainly has a lot of ambition behind it.

1 : guns absolutely are bulletproof, especially to the types of rounds you'd see commonly used in handguns. (and something as chonky as a sniper rifle would be even moreso) 2 : this is shockingly well done. Like, it was obviously low budget, but whoever animated this had some real fucking chops to do this on their own. If you want to see some real low budget slop you can look at shit like Panda Fighter, but this is actually quite well done for how low budget it obviously was.

This movie is somehow better than it should been, and the fact that all that was made by one guy while releasing in 2008 (though he did make a few killer bean animations before that, the first one going as far back as 1997 iirc) is genuinely impressive. The fact that we are also getting a full fledged videogame released by the same guy (even appeared in the game awards) is insane, and seeing the gameplay I might actually look into getting it. In fact, I think you guys should check out his other (especially earlier) work on his channel, it really shows how much this guy has evolved in 3D animation in the span of 4 decades, all by himself, even inspired me and a friend to do the same.
