Oohh that's a genius way to use the subscription! I don't like enough of the K.U. library to keep up the sub every month - but stashing them away on a list and then re-subscribe is genius

You are so right about browsing! But I love KU. I just bought the 2 year Prime Day deal. But I did the 3 month Prime Day trial first. Then added the 2yr deal on top. Between KU and borrowing from the library I’m all set. I bought the new basic Kindle on Prime Day too. I love it! I definitely treated myself because I bought the no ads version. I got it in black. Thanks for your video. Everyone I asked said KU was crap, but I love reading indie authors and sci-fi, fantasy, and paranormal romance are my jam! I’m with you an Amazon practices. I have to make my money stretch. I support the workers and and I support striking, but I can’t give up my Prime. I also think Walmart/Sam’s Club is evil. But I still have a membership. And I live in a small town so Walmart can’t be avoided.

That helped immeasurably ... really liked your approach (re: get a 'wish list' and when it grows to an appropriate size ... re-join KU) ... my concern was always that while free ebooks often satisfied my reading needs (ie there isn't enough reading time available) I would find it hard to justify an ongoing subscription. Your approach rings a bell with moi ... thanks a bunch :)

Amazon prime has prime books also which adds another 10 books you can check out at a time, but from a much smaller collection. I agree it is a good choice for those .99 to $3 books. Some of those books are good,some are downright awful (with typos everywhere), and some are just filled with ads for the authors services and other books. Some are just well known older books (ie Harry Potter series).

Great review. Probably 80% are romance, which I don’t read. It definitely is hard to browse. It’s best to go through your search engine then keep following the recommended ebooks instead of using the amazon app. There are a lot that have the audiobook along with the ebook. There are old titles and classics, self published, and public domain books but I think a lot of those are also available through amazon prime reading. I’ve had it about four months and read Harry Potter plus about 20 others. I’ll probably cancel soon and sign up later when a special runs. Best things I like is the audio and being able to try lots of books without just downloading a sample

Very informative video I was thinking about joining Kindle unlimited but there are so many other free books via Amazon or Kindle however it works that I feel like it was just going to have another subscription that I'm not getting the most benefits out of. I do think is pretty cool though that you have a 10 book cap so that way you're not overdoing it turn one in able to take another one and so fourth.

Some of my books are on KU :) I think authors have to opt in to it and so I don't think readers should worry that they're not getting fair remuneration or whatever. Hi and thank you that was very helpful. Question I need your advice. I have a kindle unlimited subscription which I know I'm paying too much for st 14.95 and I have probly 6 clicks to use before I cancel it, will those clicks remain to puchase after I cancel? Or do I have to use & purchase the books first then cancel? Every time I find a book on one to purchase its 6 or 7 dollars and why would I pay 14.95 and then buy a book that cheap, so that's my dilemma in canceling your respons is appreciated, thank you.

Bit late to this (although I think I have viewed it before) but I am in UK and agree with every word of this. Only thing is, I have a permanent subscription because I always have the full allocation of 20 out at any time and the last time I checked my KU file (I may have got this idea from you in the first place) I stopped counting at 150 - I read Regency/Victorian roamnace and cozy crime and KU is, as you say, absolutely stuffed with these categories. I do worry about what compensation authors receive (and I believe it has got worse recently?) but if I enjoy a book, I will then buy it.

I am still waiting for the moment when I'm going to subscribe to kindle unlimited. If I do so, I want to have plenty of time to read as many books as I can during the current offer I think of 3 months trial period where you don't pay a penny. I like your idea with the wishlist specifically for kindle unlimited books and then to read it in the time you subscribe to the service. Very clever. Don't know if you have this also in the US but in the UK there is also prime reading available. It has much fewer books available but you can read them for free. It offers mostly the first book in series and possibly also quite few selfpublished books, but then, hey, Harry Potter is available there as well, so you have quite a spectrum.
@bookslikewhoa
@bookslikewhoa 5 жыл бұрын
That's a good strategy- if you focus on the books you're interested in, you could probably get thru a big backlog of them during that trial. And yes, we also have Prime Reading! I decided not to get into that too much, but I linked to an article talking about the differences in the description ;)

First of Amen, but with a corollary the whole Kindle app is a hot mess. I don't understand why after finishing a book it isn't archived and pushed off the front of the screen. I am one of those people who has way to many books and finding a book is a nightmare. I didnt last very long with the Kindle unlimited because I couldnt find much I was interested in, but I do keep my eye on their offerings just to be on the safe side. I have Scribd, which has a lot more of the books that I am interested in. Granted Scribds obtuse policy on how many books per month is really annoying.

PREACH IT SISTER! So true, I have no idea who designed that user experience but it is TRASH. Scribd has a better library, I agree- I got burned by their T&Cs, so I've been a little gun shy with them since, but I will probably do a 30 day trial to see how I do this go around

It just depends-- I've not noticed textbooks on there but I've not been looking. It's worth searching the ones you need and seeing if they've been made available in there

So the books you have access to via Kindle Unlimited are not books you actually own? You have to rent and return?

Do the 10 books remain on your Kindle until you return them or are removed at the end of each month?

Why do people still pay for KU when you can loan books from library and not pay anything and library has a wider selection. No hate just wondering

Tbh I like Kobo e-readers better than Kindles because instead of coming with Kindle Unlimited they come with Overdrive which is like Kind unlimited but with wayyyy better books and it's free if you have a library card
