Why is the "tanking the pels game" still a debate? The Lakers don't duck any smoke, if they're the best team, they can beat anybody and they weren't. The Lakers weaknesses were magnified (Guard defense, wing defense, backup center) in the PO and seeing Ham not getting out his own way for more games and possibly keeping his job is not great. This team is not beating the wolves, let alone go all the way if they dont face denver and even if they did, people would say, but you didn't face denver. I love the way the wolves play, none of that foul baiting shit, just straight up play ball

Exactly that Denver series showed our ceiling and it wasn't high enough. All of the glaring weaknesses most of us have been screaming about were on full display. Hams incompetence, not enough size being the biggest issues.

Why haven’t Lakers followed the 2020 formula where they started 2 big lineups? AD must go back to the 4. Put Vando at the 2. Either get a pure PG or put LeBron back at PG. Get a secondary playmaker who can space the floor and get their own shots. Guys like Rui and Reaves are better coming off the bench. Play big. The days of small unathletic lineups is archaic especially with guys like Wemby and Chet coming along.

A lot of the player issues in the playoffs stemmed from bad coaching and inconsistent playing time. For instance Max not getting time was a crime. Injuries also killed our season.

Max wasn't very good when he got time. Neither was Wood or Reddish. Their legends would grow whenever they didn't play and the Lakers lost. Max, Reddish, and Dinwiddie were just 3 unreliable players with flaws. Vincent was never healthy.

tbh lakers main issue is their players are all offensive minded. dlo, reeves, rui, lebron dont pay defense. you can get away with 1 guy and maybe2 guys who are mediocre on defense like the 2016 cavaliers. if 4 of your 5 starters dont play defense, its a recipe for disaster when your team goes on a dry spell offensively and the opponent scores at will and goes on 16-0 scoring runs due to your defense sucking so badly

I think "parity" is a worthy goal, but soon it's going to mean players will have to take less money in free agency. There's excellent players on the market but no teams can afford them. And teams with cap space are hesitant because they know with the parity and the right picks to trade, they can actually make a run in the playoffs. It's a tough balance but we're going to see some salary crunch at some point. Those tax aprons are nasty

This post season lacked all role players stepping up like in 2020 where Rondo, KCP, Morris, AC stepped it up with their best performances. A post season ago, Rui, AR, Vando and DLo(partially) stepped it up. The Lakers don't need a 3rd star, better off with two half stars like two Markennon level starters plus a defense/rebounding 5 in the starting lineup, andhalf as many backups chasing a ring as youthful energetic backups. Markennon is not worth five first round picks like Gobert isn't.

Getting 2 borderline stars is the way to go instead of using up all of our assets on 1 player. My ideal offseason is pairing Dejounte with Caruso and Reaves slotted in as a 6th man along with getting a quality center. We’re not that far off, it’s just about getting the right pieces and finishing the puzzle.

Laker moves ... 1. Let DLo walk, 2 Use MLE to get a big (hopefully Nic Claxton) 3. Get CWood to embrace defense and rebounding as a key role for him ... That's your 3 bigs with size, athleticism and length. 4. Gabe, Reaves', Max Christie and JHS are your key guard rotation... There's size and 2 way potential there. Give enuf playing time and the young players will become legit rotation players... Why can't a Christie for example be our Nikhil Alexander ? Then LeBron, AD, Reaves, Vando, Rui, Claxton, Gabe, Christie, Wood and JHS gives you a good 10 man rotation... And with elite coaching can get this roster to contend if relatively healthy thru the season... Hopefully we can draft a wing 2 way shooter in this draft

Trev is being inconsistent with his player analysis. He's applying history in favor of AR but not the other players. Example: Gabe killed it in the Miami playoffs but he's not a playoff guy? Rui didn't kill it in 2023 playoffs? Also give more weight to the bad coaching instead of the bad playing. Of course some of the playing issues can be resolved if Bron changes his style of play from being ball dominant all the time and more facilitator.

Whats sad is none of these west teams beat the lakers other than the Nuggets. This is why AD not being a true #1 impacting teams success throughout the regular season hurt the lakers with seeding. Unless he can turn into that guy or something close to 2020, the lakers will continue to struggle through the regular season keeping them in the lower seeds. I 100% agree with your analysis! Ppl also forget he had Dwight and Javeal doing all the dirty work in the paint, he was never that guy as a number 1 option. Same when he was with the pelicans, he had Boogie Cousins and Randle doing the dirty work, when those guys left AD couldn't even carry the team to the playoffs as a number 1 options.
