I also have course hair friend. Been having a hard time finding a blade that is not only sharp but not irritating. The best result I've had is a nacet with my Gillette Aristocrat 1951.

I ordered my first Mitchell's Wool Fat Soap shortly before your first review on it and got worried I would get bad shaves with it due to the lanolin. Well, I just got mine this week and was happy to discover that it agrees with my face type. It isn't super slick, but, it does provide decent protection. I would compare it with TOBS shaving cream. My face actually feels clear enough to warrant an aftershave. Probably the other ingredients far outweigh the lanolin; curious how much better the soap would perform without lanolin. Thanks for this informative video about lanolin!

Very interesting discussion. I'm a head shaver and I went with laser on my head to make shaving more comfortable.

I have an answer :D Because marketing, and Lanolin sounds good as an ingredient. Like most of the stuff that is put on the packaging like q10....most of the creams has q10 in amount just enough that analysis can show traces of enzyme. But it sounds good :D

Hahah... you are absolutely right!!! Marketing and men have always fallen for marketing. Just look at the advertisements that got men to switch to using canned shaving foam when they could be using amazing products instead. Hopefully the resurgence in shaving and the interest will make a difference and maybe some men will watch my channel, well at least those interested.

Great topic, I am a vegan and I have to do quite the bit of research ensuring things like lanolin, tallow, peg-8, fish, milk, and eggs, are not in my soaps and balms. I use PAA and Southern Witchcrafts soaps almost exclusively, both are vegan artisans. They offer some great slickness and do not clog up and dirty equipment. Cheers🙏

Interesting topic. I use Williams Mug Soap everyday. The stuff has been around since 1840 because it just works, plain and simple. It has exceptional slickness and only what is required in a shave soap, nothing else that isn't. I use other shave soaps, on occasion, but I always come back to the Williams Mug Soap.

Williams soap is now on my order list and is something that I will try. Cheers.

I've been using soaps without lanolin like Cella and i notice allot less irritation on my skin. I heard people might have an allergy to it and i think I'm one of them. I used my Proraso Green and Tobac and notice far more irritation.

I’m researching more about lanolin. I recently purchased creamy coconut from Stirling soap and I’m having some minor reaction to the soap. I’ve never experienced the red rash/irritation from any gels. This soap is my very first shave soap, I’m believing my skin isn’t liking the lanolin. That’s at least what I’m hoping it is so I can get it figured out because i’m really trying to get the ball rolling with traditional shaving.

There are so many soaps out there that youll love. My suggestion is to try many of them. Congrats on traditional wet shaving.

I was suprised how great my skin was after barristter&man (with no lanoline) soap compared to i.e. stirling. It was lanoline gunk. I like lanoline soap during winter (A&E). But the best option is shea butter (i use one from SV an it is great)

Very interesting insight! Stirling offers a shaving soap with beeswax instead of lanolin, maybe you could do a comparison shave between that one and the one you have and see if you notice a difference in the lather & shave.

You are absolutely right in recommending to try a shaving soap containing beeswax and seeing if there is a difference. My thoughts are this... I've used beeswax in many products I've made including lip balms, massage balms for myofascial release... and have perfected the ratios and performance of these products. In these products it leaves a thick, sticky residue on the skin, lips etc. However beeswax does turn into soap depending on the time it is added as it saponify. If it were added to the lye then it's all good however if it is added later and mixed in it would behave in a similar way to lanolin if just mixed and leave a sticky residue. I've never used beeswax in soap making. My guess is that it is added before so it can saponify and if this is the case then it would make a great soap. Thank you for your suggestion to try it, I've taken it on board. Cheers!

I like it as a post shave skin treatment, but I don't think it should be in a shave cream.

We agree, lanolin in shaving cream makes no sense. It's fine as a topical application for other times though.
