babe wake up new lego castle defensibility check just dropped
@madmerlinsart Жыл бұрын
I had this set in my youth, and even at the age of about 8 or 12, I found this a rather easy castle to assail. 😅

I wish I could share with you guys my rebuild of this set. I think it would pass muster! 🤷♂️

We'd love to see it! Keep the Good Times Poppin!

Yes! I've been waiting for a set that I actually owned! Even as a kid playing with the set, I usually modified it to make the bailey walls and side walls higher.
@thegoodtimegroup2 жыл бұрын
Just those modifications make such a difference! Keep the Good Times Poppin'!

This is XIVth century already (full plate armour, helmets with visors) they have been capable of building in high mountains already. I have always imagined that there is very steep cliff on the left side of the gate.
@thegoodtimegroup2 жыл бұрын
You can keep it on the edge of a table to show that! Yeah, LEGO arms and armours mix periods so much we don't even touch it. It would be fun to do just a video on what pieces are from which periods, and which are just fantasy. Keep the Good Times Poppin'!

The central wall with defenses only on one side and not the other is always the thing that has bugged me the most about this set, so it was great to see you mention it. I'd recommend fixing that by adding defensive works to the other side of the wall...
@thegoodtimegroup2 жыл бұрын
yeah, crenelations on both sides of the causeway or an opposite curtain wall on the ramp side would make such a difference! Keep the Good Times Poppin'!

the addition of a large tower with a ballista is a welcome design feature, but most of the remaining castle indeed does lack the vital components of a truly defensible castle
@thegoodtimegroup2 жыл бұрын
Loved the Ballista too, and its in such a good spot! I don't know anywhere better. Keep the Good Times Poppin'!

Also, have you thought of reviewing MOCs from lego fans, of course if given enough pictures? I think that would be fun once you finish with the official sets.
@thegoodtimegroup2 жыл бұрын
We love looking through MOCs this way, and you're right given enough pictures we could check for some serious defensibility! Keep the Good Times Poppin'!

One of those sets that seems like an unfinished idea by the design team, and a lot of kids probably remade this castle back in the day.
@kevinjamesmartin71272 жыл бұрын
You could remake it using the same blocks, try to find the best possible build using those parts. Including all the main castle tropes like parapets, arrowslits, portcullis etc. Maybe not a moat because it looks like the wall should be around the basin near the top of the ramp, the smaller area allows the parts to be put to more advantageous use. Maybe hill forts/mottes had solid doors instead of a portcullis
@kevinjamesmartin71272 жыл бұрын
I love trying to find the best build for given sets, I will never own this set
@thegoodtimegroup Жыл бұрын
Good plans for improvement. I'd pretty much shift the curtain wall from one side of the causeway to the other; it'd solve a fair number of issues. If you ever try to build it, submit it in a def-check contest for sure!

Will you be doing the forts in the Pirates subtheme?

I was waiting for “Bad drawbridge design” because those doors and the drawbridge is just meh for me.
@thegoodtimegroup2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the gate drawbridge combination is pretty poor.
@andrius11 Жыл бұрын
@@thegoodtimegroup The problem is people don't how to use it properly. I did right lookkng instructions and drawbridge worked great by rasing and lowering.

Great work with this series so far! It's a nice combo of funny and practical, and an easy watch. I make Castle-related videos as well and study medieval history, would you be interested in collaborating?
