A Marvel-themed Overwatch doesn't sound like a bad idea, actually. Even if it's not a game that will really compete with Blizzard, it's good to have *any* competition, no matter how basic it is. If the monetization isn't terrible and they maintain this level of quality, it sounds like a fun option to play with friends every now and then.

Because it’s been steadily declining with diminishing returns each season they had spikes when they did the “go get mystics you missed” and when they do events like transformers or this power ranger season, that’s about it. Overwatch 2 is being killed by blizzard just like overwatch 1 was and a game like this could easily be the nail in the coffin because while there are similarities here and there, there’s a lot of cool original ideas with marvel rivals and overwatch will have to stop doing 50 dollar event skins and shit if marvel rivals makes any good decision at all with monetization

This game is going to be a massive hit. The roster is supposed to be 39 at launch. The character art is fantastic. It has a good gameplay loop. And it is free to play. Cynics did not think the First Descendant would be a success but after a few weeks, it is steady chugging away. This will be the same.

What I liked was the presentation, art style, character designs, all good Unlike concord, rivals' roster wasn't beaten by the ugly stick. Also there's the cheesy dialogue with good delivery, but what I find interesting was the details. They go the extra mile showing the player "why" I have to push this payload with short animations on the character selection screen and the victory or defeat screens and the NPC's actually talk to you about what you're doing and talking as if what you do has stakes. I dig that. I haven't played any other multiplayer game that adds that much context to the game modes.

This is going to come off as a "hater comment" but i will just say this is how i saw this video: This feels alot like a DAY 1 review instead of playing multiple days, some of the stuff said here can be debunked by just playing more, per example magneto being a guy that stands back and shields/supports and doesnt really do dmg is just untrue, when positioned right he can be very agressive, specially when you have scarlett witch co-op ability. Another is the iron man can "just fly and attack from above with no downsides", if you played long enough, specially rank you will see spider-man just straight out destoys iron man in a one-shot, making the game rely on changing characters mid-game (like overwatch) to counter strategies or if is just a game that is not going well, keeping on the iron man subject, as the days went on (3 days of open rank if im not mistaken), you start seeing iron man players getting better position to try and counter spider-man ez one shot on him, started seeing iron man players finding a way to stay somewhat off the map and attack from tight angles making it really hard to hit him. The meta and plays/playstyle keep evolving and this already shows that the game can have much growth in competitive play and becomes more interesting as time goes on. For the point the characters that feel "underwhelming", from my experience, as soon as i get the hang of the character by playing them or just straight out seeing an enemy playing him better than you and then mimic their plays you start seeing such enjoyment in every single one of them, my example being the supps (specially warlock), didn't know exactly how to optimize them except loki and racoon, after seeing others play and practice i discovered neat angles to heal and use abilities with them while keeping on some dmg, making all characters just super enjoyable to play and meta viable(just a useless information i main tank).

Magneto can actually do the most damage in the game with his chaos sword, from the team up with scarlet witch. its broken and will most likely be changed. i think you also forgot to say that the battle pass is free and all the live service gimmicks right now are also free. obviously it will cost money when the game launches so i understand why you didnt mention it.

Mortal Kombat 11 did the same thing, every character had multiple abilities and you were able to swap out abilities that fit more of your playstyle. I loved that concept and they could easily implement it here, for example: I main storm, but 2 of her 3 abilities are buffing the team or herself…. Umm I’d rather have another attack lol

As someone that has played a ton of Overwatch over the years, I cannot recommend this game enough. The beta has been so fun and it’s a really refreshing take on the genre. You can say some characters are rip offs of characters from Overwatch mechanically, but you mentioned the support cast who are all quite unique actually. Comparing the supports in this game to Overwatch, they play very differently. I think this game has enough of an identity to separate itself from Overwatch if you’re familiar with the intricacies of both games. It’s important to have multiple perspectives cause there’s gonna be people who might play more similarly to you, not care for hero shooters as much, but I gotta say, you’re missing out with the melee characters. Spider-Man is hard to pick up, sure, but he’s not really clunky. He’s very fluid if you can play him. And Magneto as well, he can do really strong bursts of damage, especially with Scarlet Witch, so I wouldn’t say he really plays like a support. For those that enjoy hero shooters, I think this is definitely worth your time. For those that dont, I think it’s still worth trying. The roster is pretty diverse with a few same-ish characters, the gameplay is chaotic and fun, it’s not a super serious game, I think it has a lot of potential! And that’s my before you buy… or uh, try to get a key with their shitty twitch drop system 😂

​@drewtheunspoken3988 yeah, I'm an OG Overwarch player that quit with the OW2 debacle. This game is great and is doing more than 50 times Concorde's open beta numbers. The monetization is the big question, but in the beta you can earn cosmetics pretty easily through normal gameplay and challenges.

magneto is actually one of my faves so far. he's great at bull dogging and pushing the enemy back if his team is being aggressive with him and not letting the enemy breathe. especially if scarlet witch teams up with him. if he were any stronger id think he was a bit broken but as he is now hes strong yet counter-able. looking forward to the full release.

Thanks a sweet card game called Marvel Champions I am currently more (back) into Marvel than ever before. I even started reading comics. Perfect timing for the closed Beta and I really enjoyed it from start. My favorite Hero Black Panther is also in there but feels a bit too situational/niche. Magneto feels straight up overpowered with the Scarlet Witch teamup ability. The game needs work on UI and balancing ofc. But it is very enjoyable most of the time already. Especially if you randomly meet a yt content creator you like on day 1 and keep playing together with him for the next week basically every day 😂.

All I see with these live-service hero shooters is wasted potential that could have been a fantastic baseline for a singleplayer or even coop campaign. Wanna know why Rivals is gonna succeed? They made attractive, interesting characters. Men and women in the game look badass. You want to play as them, gives you that dopamine hit. How your character "looks" is extremely important. If you are gonna be a robot, you want a badass looking robot, if you are a female, you want a female that looks like Storm so on and so forth. No one wants to play a game as a frumpy gen alpha looking accountant.

I've been playing the Closed Beta too. I do agree with what you said about Magneto and Adam Warlock. I have been having the most fun with Iron Man!! He feels so great and his abilities are pretty awesome. Spiderman is pretty cool too as well as Black Panther but definitely some tweaks still needed here and there. Overall I am very impressed and anxious to see it in full effect.

I love it, I played mostly Magneto, Peni Parker, Storm, Namor, Mantis, Jeff and Rocket. Some of the maps had major latency issues which got tiring after arrival, but now that I've gone a day without playing, I wish I could hop in for a few matches again. I think it has massive potential, they've got a good design philosophy and if they get the monetisation and new content balance right, it should be a good game with some longevity

Always boggles my mind that the title of the game isn't like *Marvels: Civil War* or *Marvels: Secret Wars.* Like, none of the developers actually watch comics. Also, none of these game modes are about them being heroes, they are just pure Overwatch game modes.

Probably because Civil War and Secret Wars are beloved comic book stories, so when people play this game and get something completely unrelated, they would be at the very least confused and probably disappointed. Naming a game after something for no reason other than to use the name is just stupid. Marvel Rivals is a fine name.

You say that but if this game were actually called something like Civil War, it would be crushed by comic book fans for how "inaccurate" it is. And you can kinda say the same thing about Overwatch. For all their lore-related cinematics and animated shorts, the actual game just boils down to these simple game modes. It's a game about Marvel characters like your childhood dreams or like making two action figures fight each other. It's not a game adapting a specific story-line, and that's fine.

I'm not a multiplayer or live service game person so this game is immediately a hard pass for me but from my friends who play these types of games they seem to be liking it. They were a lot more positive on it than Concord. But yeah for me the hero shooter/battle royale/live service shooter genre is not up my alley coz I'm a sucker for aingle player story games instead.

Honestly speaking I have seen most tanks do more damage than actual DPS characters. I tend to play Scarlet Witch cause she's a simple Moira-style DPS, and I'm now really leaning into Magik. But regarding the issue with making everyone feel how they do in the comics is likely going to be extremely hard, since it will be hard to translate everything they can do into 4 - 8 skills. Will definitely need to see more options though to get a true feel, but so far I am personally loving it.

I really enjoyed the game and one thing I’d like to mention as someone who played overwatch when it was on beta this game did exactly what Jake mentioned it scratched that itch I played Winston and jumping around as Hulk was fun. I hope they just market it similar to OG overwatch and make the whole roster free.

Marvel Midnight Suns was amazing. I got the ultimate version on sale last month and I burned through it 2 1/2 times, plus a mod overhaul. I can't wait for this because my fiancée, and I got real bored with Overwatch years ago, and we're both Marvel freaks. Hopefully they see these kinds of vids and fine tune it to make it better on the weaker points.

I like the cartoon esthetic, like 3rd person games, and it's less shooty than a hero shooter so it more SuperHero than Super Soldiers. Lots to expand on, story modes with theses character could be fun.

I agree with you. I scored a beta code about 3 days before the CBT’s ending, and it was fun but I definitely felt like I did everything by the second day lol. It’s a free game though, so i’ll definitely play it.

Still not getting the Overwatch comparisons outside of team ups and certain UI stuff. Overwatch had a certain level charm to it that made it famous. Marvel Rivals reminds me more of Smite

I joined the closed beta because I’m a huge marvel nerd. I never played OW. I tried to get into it but just didn’t click always told myself. “Man OW feels like a marvel game that’d I’d have to cope playing to get my superhero fill” Once rivals released I have been playing none stop. Maps are amazing and look promising so many ways it could go. A full roster that could add anybody I mean Jeff & Thor update midway through was awesome and totally for more obscure hero’s getting offered. I also main venom and magneto which both are completely different. Venom being more aggressive and magneto defensive but I can’t agree characters are boring I think everyone has an idea who’s boring. I honestly thought punisher was most boring cause it’s just a gun nut only character not actual super powers. In the end I believe monetizing will make or break the game and I’ve made sure all my feedback has included that. Cost for skin ect need to be well balanced and the max I’m willing to pay is $6-$10. As a none OW player it’s free to play I encourage everyone to try it and you’ll find someone who clicks.

I really wish Marvel and DC video games would make a modern AAA version of Spider-Man: Friend or Foe. I want a single-player (with optional 2-3 player co-op) game where you play as a central DC/Marvel hero and face a threat imposing enough that the hero needs to enlist their rogues gallery (and maybe a handful of other heroes) to help them save the world. Imagine a Batman game where you get to fight alongside characters like Joker, Harley Quinn, Bane, Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and etcetera. That should've been the game we got from Rocksteady after Arkham Knight. A game where you have to fight (and try to save) a corrupted Justice League-as Batman and his rogues) not f*cking SSKTJL.

Too many characters have semi-automatic attacks like Zenyatta, which is not a good thing. Storm, Magneto, Luna Snow, Mantis, Adam~~~ too many

They should make it so there are a select number of roles per team and each character has 3 different sets of powers to use depending on what role you choose. So all the characters have a tank/support/dps role.
