Is Maxing still worth it in 2023?

To me the whole point of RuneScape is setting and accomplishing goals. Its the one thing thats kept me playing the game for over 15 years at this point. My first goal was the lumbridge achievement diary. Then it was all the diaries. Then it was my first 99 (Fletching). And so on and so on. 13 to 14 years later my goals are now trimmed comp, 5.6 bil and mqc. Even if these things didn't give a single reward, the act of working towards these goals IS RuneScape to me. I'm amazed by people who don't train skills, don't do quests, don't do clues and instead just do bossing, I'd have given up on the game 10 years ago if it wasn't for all the different goals to keep working towards.

A lot of people only have weekends off so maxing tends to be even more tedious. It's still very much an achievement for many people and I'm happy you acknowledge it :)

One benefit of maxing I don’t hear many people talk about is being able to toggle off daily challenges for skills you have 99 in. You can pick exactly which dailies you want everyday for consistent xp rewards for minimal effort. I just recently got 120 agility almost entirely through dailies and silver hawks. Took me about a year starting from 99 for anyone wondering.

5:40 I would point out that the maxed guild also got a G.E which I find useful for if/when I run our of resources. i like to place my well there and just do herb, and being able to instantly get new resources through g.e saves time.

I think most of us forget how hard maxing is, how much time dedication it asks of a player, and how awesome it is. There are a lot of players that are maxed in this game and with veteran accounts who've been playing for many years that have the resources and GP to get even 120's reasonably, let alone finish maxing. I think we forget how impressive maxing really is. If you were a new player just starting, just downloaded from mobile or steam, you look at that achievement, you may even be turned off or could be awe inspired to how difficult or how much time that would ask of you to complete. It's a massive achievement. Something that can ask hundreds if not thousands of hours to achieve. Most players have an established account and can casually get there eventually. Try having a new player attempt this ironman or not. Remember, anything over 20 hours to ask of a player is a massive dedication in any game. Don't forget we play an MMORPG, and it naturally asks hundreds if not thousands of hours of a player which that in itself it is impressive for anyone who sticks with it. Maxing is definitely a goal to establish your hard work into a symbol of greatness. Even with MTX you're asking an unreasonable amount of money, i don't think it is fair to even put into the equation here. Someone like that spending literal thousands of real life money even over time on treasure hunter or bonds, just goes to show how hard it is for them that they dont even have the time to get Max naturally, but worrying about how other people get it is really a waste of time. The fact you can discuss to other players how you got to your goal, because you did the journey, and you can feel proud how YOU got it is the most important part. So for someone that's trimmed, Ultimate Slayer, some boss logs, MQC, almost max runescore ect ect i still consider maxing one of my favorite achievements to this day, and such a milestone. (It felt insane when the boss portal was the only way to get to bosses efficiently) I use the maxguild tele every single day. The three perks on most of your capes is a must now, one of the best goals to work towards RuneScape can feel like a full time job the amount of hours people put in to get where they want to be, what do you guys think about that?

I'll never forget the absolute pain of maxing. I reached 99 in the most difficult skills BEFORE they became a joke to train. I trained agility to 99 before silverhawk boots, divination before the elder halls, dungeoneering at release when you had to look for parties, runecrafting a few months after release, construction before contracts and statues... so when newer players say maxing is a joke, i tell them they don't know the pain of what it truly was to max before they buffed all the skills to be a joke.

I feel like with how fast paced the game has become now compared to before, getting a max cape has sort of just become a milestone of naturally playing and the game and advancing your charachter while not really having to dedicate yourself to "go" for a max cape. You just play the game enjoy whatever you do at the moment, get some bonuses on dxp and yak tracks, do some questing, kill stuff and whoopie ur now maxed or less than 10% away. I like the gamestyle, it takes away some of the pressure and anticlimactic element of the "Woo I finally got the max cape, now what". Best of luck im high on coffee and exam anxiety, see ya :)

The Max cape and prif is a huge hurdle for the amenities in the PVM hub. That was a big part of the rationale for the PVM Hub. The cape is pretty decent and can be handy, though it's far from critical these days. Quick access to the GE can be nice too, but I mostly play Ironman lately. (the last six levels may kill me RC and Agility are awful)

Shortly after I got bored and ended up quitting RS until July 2022 and found I had lots to do, especially after getting hacked and losing the vast majority of my stuff 😂 I think after I max necromancy I'll probably take another couple year break from RS

That's the magic of RuneScape and why we love this game. There is no estabilished goal, you can decide what is your ultimate goal and the reason why, losing nothing by choosing your own path and playstyle along the way. RuneScape is all about doing whatever you feel like not necessarely feeling "behind" by not following the game meta. A lvl3 skiller is the best example of this, it's about having fun and fulfiling the goals you estabilish for yourself following your own rules.

Maxing is nice only for the teleport and Skill Cape perks. The real question is actually, is the Trimmed Comp or Max Trimmed comp capes worth it as after the max cape and quest cape, the next level capes provide no extra bugs. The Max Quest Cape offers teleports, but that's the last skill based Cape that gives anything for the journey. So, the real question is, is the Max Trimmed Comp Cape worth it?

not even a question, maxing was never something anyone NEEDED. its an achievement for you as a player with some nice unlocks. maxing your account should never be looked down on regardless of how hard you actually grinded to get there, its a milestone you should be proud of.

max cape should just give access to all skill cape perks expecially since most of them are extremely niche or just plain useless, also can you convince jagex to make skilling relics and pvm relics separate so that whenever i wanna runecraft or something i don't need to swap them, combat and non combat should be separate

It's true, but you have to keep into account there are way more skills nowadays too, with one coming out by the end of the year. 29 skills are a lot. This definitely still looks overwhelming for a new player.

When I maxed in 2021 it was the most incredible feeling for such a long term player, since playing rs and always trying to finish my stat's it took me 13 years but I finally did it and at least I can finally say I had maxed my account, but the journey definitely doesn't start until 120s

i think it would be cool for you to do a follow up video on what the max level of each skill that's actually useful. an example is agil, lvl 90 is all anyone really needs and that's really only for ports. (which is most port skills) herb for me was 97 for the longest time, and then 107 later when it was increased to 120 etc.

After maxing and doing so many quests and achievements to minmax stuff for nearly no cost, I'm pretty close to comp cape relatively speaking (still have a LOT of long quests to go). It wasn't a goal I ever had, unlike Max cape, but now that it seems realistic and attainable it's interesting to me and is a motivator

For me it was 100% about achieving something I didn't 20ish years ago. I have no desire to do any bossing, just maxing out my skills so I can put the game down once I am 99. (or 120 for 6 skills that go that high)

I maxed in 2013, I maxed for the achievement and the max cape. No other rewards necessary. Overtime it has become much easier and seams more like a stop along the way instead of the destination. After 2013 i started working and lost the time to play. Never went for comp cape. I only re-maxed just recently and it felt awesome. I am currently waiting for necromancy just to have to do it again.

@@OGXenos I 102% agree, I usually have either range or strength and attack and invention as the other two. I keep the defense cape perk on anacronia. The attack and invention cape just make late game rs3 a tiny bit cheeper. And I use the fused post 99 capes for my skilling, or even have slayer and dung capes in one for clues.

Personally i think the 1 click teleport that requires no runes that puts you 2 tiles from the ge/ bank is super under rated. Rs is one of those games that you can spend 1000s of hours on, so yeah it might only be an extra second or to to bank somewhere else or run to the ge. But when you do that action thousands of times all of those little things add up in the long run.

I also maxed recently, after playing on and off since May 2004, I'm sad b/c with Necromancy coming out, I'll very soon lose the max cape again. Note: I rarely use the portals in W.R, maybe I should have. My thought is to gradually start PVM after being maxed, also waiting to do a lot of achievements and quests at a higher level to make them much easier!

I maxed in 2016 I beleive with the release of invention. Worth it imo but I wish they would add more features to the max guild to make it a touch more worthwhile, put an adrenaline crystal in that only works when you unlock the wars retreat one, make the max cap have 3 slots for both combat and skilling perks as an example, or just give it all the perks the grind is still long and painful and I don't think it would be out of line for a small buff to make maxing more desirable

I started a new character, because I ruined my first ironman by just running for maxing (just burned me out, then I just left it), now I just want to get some skill to open up stuff, get invention to 99 first, get 116 arch, then go for slayer with Introspection, do quests, bosses, achiviements, etc. Have fun, not max. Use your items, not just collect them. Now I do shifting tombs for elite thieving suit at lvl 74. lol Have fun.

I started playing in 2005 and maxed my first account in 2013. I made a skiller that I ruined and then got max on that in 2017. I made another skiller after maxing the second account in early 2018 and got max level 3. The progress to maxing is "fun" because you have a goal to move towards. Once you finish that goal, if you don't have other things, the game becomes incredibly stale, very fast. I have subsequently 120 all on my level 3 and once I met that goal I got bored once more. In terms of main accounts, doing what you want for fun should be the main goal of the game, maxing should be a secondary UNLESS that's specifically what you want to do

You can definitely use expert capes (2 perks on the cape), having 4 skill perks for pvm(+1 from stand) wearing kiln cape is a pretty big deal even if you play magic tbh. It's not as big for the account as some quests rewards but it's a legitimate end game goal, and if new lvl120 progs get released it would only get better.

Im not a hardcore PVM'r, but the game really does start after max. The mental strain of having to make money to train skills is removed. Your money pouch starts to build up and you can finally buy those expensive quality of life enhancing items you've been money. You can do content because its fun not because you need money.

As someone who stopped caring about bossing post-eoc; maxing is where the game ends for me. If I want to play a skill based combat game I'd much rather play a Fromsoft game. I'm really just not a fan of micromanaging abilities. It becomes very convoluted with the gear, summons and temporary buffs if you ask me. On top of all of that there's a far more tangible downside to losing that discouraged me from even trying. I have nothing against those who are into bossing, it's just not my cup of tea. I'll get back into it once Necromancy is released just so I have an excuse to max again.

I maxed & comped in 2011 pre eoc. Yes i did runecrafting pre-runespan. I feel 120 in all skills, master max cape is equal to the old 99 in all skills in terms of how much time and how much effort it takes to achieve. With all the mtx lamps and bonus xp... these days maxing isn't really that massive now, pretty dulled down for 99 in all skills. The feeling and prestige has moved up a tier as maxing becomes more common. I'm hoping for 200m capes tbh.

I think maxing is quite easy to the point, there's no reason not to. Especially when you hit your least 3-5 favourite skills, daily challenges alone can be 200k~ xp a day. Even as an iron, I have a good number of 99s purely from D&D's and daily challenges.

I maxed and then loved all the things it gave. But then arch came out and by the time i was remaxed the wars retreat was just objectively better. The main things that the max guild gave are now over shadowed by wars retreat. My main use of the max guild now is a fast tele to a ge/bank. Any pvm is better done through wars retreat, and any skilling you want to do should be done in the portable skilling areas/worlds to get the bonus xp buffs from random people.

I think the best way to do it is to skill up your way until you have good money makers that don't bore you and then siphon that money into all skills little by little I don't think maxing is worth rushing anymore, I think it's more important to get a full combat setup and to get used to combat mechanics first, since there wouldn't be a point in having a maxed character without being able to play efficiently... besides bragging rights and/or showing off purposes

I am one skill away from maxing, farming at 98, and I feel nothing being so close. After playing osrs for 2 weeks, I lost all the satisfaction from maxing once I realized I got from 70-101 dg without touching one dungeon floor, 90-97 farming without ever planting a single plant, and so on and so on. The lamps and xp bonuses thrown out just make the game a joke in my eyes. Runescape 3 isn't for maxing, it's solely for bossing lol

Im 5 skills away maxing my ironman. I will take that feeling anyday to get skill 99 with ironman. Mainscape is too easy with proteans and microtransactions and I stopped it for good because I got hunter 99 with proteans, way too easy and not so satifying either..

Just a little tip, you can put passive skill cape buffs on the combatants, artisans, support, and gatherers capes. However, instead of the 3 buffs the max cape offers, you only get 2.

The only advice I have for you is not to be on your last 600m XP to 5.6 during an exciting life event (like Idk a foreign exchange with your university) while a new skill is about to drop any month now
