When you replace a major part in any old vehicle of any type other older parts will fail. It's very normal, I understand it's frustrating, but this happens all of time.

Not all the time. My father got a second hand gearbox that then sat for 2 years after he got it put into his 1996 80s land cruiser with over 500,000kms on the clock because the gearbox that was in it was on the way out. They put it in and it hasnt missed a beat since! Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesnt, depends on the quality and the part.

Not if the “new” part is also gently used. $300 motor was not new. Probably had similar wear (near same year) but without oil burning issue.

As a motorcycle technician if I was going to replace an engine (I wouldn’t do it anything like this “mechanic” did) I would make sure all parts of the engine I was putting in the unit was in perfect working condition. Unless he took the stator off of his old engine which I highly doubt he did. Either way before I sent this motorcycle off with the man I would check to see if it was charging, that simple test would have saved all of this. His next complaint was the carburetor which could have also been noticed with a test run. My thoughts are is a Honda shadow absolutely sucks to work on, just to get to the carbs is over an hour of work. He probably didn’t want to work on it.

My thoughts too. Bikes losing oil, I’d at least look at it firsts before considering an engine swap. (Small engine mechanic) if the stator is gone, obviously it was a part that the engine he put in already needed.

How in the hell is the 2nd problem not the defendants fault, he brings the bike in for a smoking engine and that's the only problem? Now after the engine swap was agreed to be done, once finished, there's a "new problem" that can't be because they tore apart the bike to swap engine's? Who else laughs at the defendants' reasoning "the new problem can't be because of us"?

Except that the engine was not the problem. The mechanic is just another shonky bloke who has no idea what he's doing or is too stupid or lazy to do a full diagnosis on the bike. Before he tells the client what the fake problem is and does unnecessary work.
