Wow, I’m studying for the MCAT and applying next cycle and you just said something that struck a chord with me: “If you can picture yourself doing anything else or if you’re passionate about anything else then you shouldn’t do it”. This is my biggest internal struggle rn because I feel torn between my love for science/medicine/helping others and my countless other passions. I’m the kind of person that commits 120% to something, so I’m going to continue with this cycle and try my hardest on this endeavor, I’m just really scared of missing out on my own personal life. Insightful video!

That is a valid concern. With a lot of effort and time management, you can still maintain your personal life in medicine.

Your own insight is the fear of and internal struggle of the MCAT... Or the lack there of? Please let me know if I am clear on that. I have definitely risen to the occasion of precisely having that fear! If you don't mind me stating- lady I'm just making simple conversation about secretly loving the weather. I am getting ready to graduate in the Fall 2021 from UC Berkeley in Social Welfare and will be also applying to graduate school for Fall 2022 for my MSW in Social Work and I work in healthcare now, when I see a Doctor who looks like me I go up to them and tell them that I truly appreciate them because Representation Matter because growing up there has not been a lot of black doctors in healthcare, and when I see them I know they are doing it from the heart and they want to make a different in their community. My son will be a junior in high school is majoring in engineering a 4.0 student, smart, and he plays basketball and people are shock. He is breaking the narrative and I hope he chose a college that will support him in his journey as a black male (praying he picks an HBCU) because I feel he will get the support he need because representation matters!!!!

You really have to realize what the real story line is. Being a physician is a big deal. I requested to be a Nurse Practitioner, though also to obtain that in 8 years. Not in two years; we are wearing masks and people still don't get it. Being a foreigner, sent here for my education is a dangerous thing to the American hierchy. If you have to accomplish your goals striping foreigners that pay your rent/mortgage is something I am just frustrated with. I am foreign and not to be manipulated or branded for doing what Eastern religion has always had a continued leading hand in.

I’m so sorry to hear that. Is there anything specifically that you can pinpoint causing your unhappiness? Are you able to talk to anyone in your program about this?

What are your thoughts on non-traditional medical students? As I am not in my 20s and thinking about a career change, I also already work in Healthcare
@WhiteCoatChronicles3 жыл бұрын
No thoughts personally. You just have to think about the time investment at this point. The 4 years of med school + residency. Plus loss of wages since you’ve already been working. If you can’t see yourself doing anything else, then go for it. There are a lot of people who have made the career switch into medicine.

Keep the side table and have Stanley paint the top! As a RN, I didn't want my own kids to have a career in medicine. I've spent too many holidays away from family who live in another state. Two of my kids are engineers and made more money by the age of 23 than I'll ever make. That being said, if all they ever wanted to be was a Dr., I would have encouraged them.

Financially, is it worth it? I mean if you wish to be a wealthy person and all that.
@antoinetteg.71513 жыл бұрын
You can have wealth in most fields if you live below your means and invest saved income. Most doctors, after student loans, make wages comparable to those in the tech industry and engineering. As Dr. Precious mentioned, the number 1 reason to become a doctor is the desire to serve your patients and lead a team of health professionals. Regardless of the profession, it is all about how much you save and invest if the goal is wealth.
@MNP2083 жыл бұрын
Don’t go into medicine just because you want to be wealthy. You will be miserable. It has to be your passion.
@theupdatebySwashy3 жыл бұрын
@@MNP208 it’s a major determinant for me, not here to sing all those passion stuff, coz passion dies when it doesn’t provide your needs and wants while at the same time giving a freedom of time , which varies from person to person and for me, my passion is to accumulate wealth while having the freedom of time. But I guess medicine is for the most part of it a profession of Passion rather than wealth accumulation.
@MNP2083 жыл бұрын
@@theupdatebySwashy working in medicine will not give you “freedom of time”. Most MDs (not ER) take their laptops on vacation to address the hundreds of inbox messages that would accumulate otherwise.
