For those asking about the Charge beam timings, I quickly did some testing myself that you can find here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4e5XpegaJqAbLc Conclusion: Power Beam is faster in Wii Wave Beam is MUCH Faster in Wii Ice Beam is roughly the same Plasma Beam is MUCH Faster in Wii Super Missiles are roughly the same Still FEELS annoying though.

It's harder to see but that outline is in the original as well. It's meant to show that the Phazon Suit has stronger shields.
@Oceb Жыл бұрын
The outline on the phazon suit is there and visible even back in the GameCube version. Though it is definitely way more noticeable in Remastered.
@TarvouldsQuest Жыл бұрын
It's true, and it was much more of a shimmer/light refraction effect. Where as here it looks like a crappy Photoshop job. I kinda wish it was just completely gone altogether in all versions, but oh well.

8:56 I thought the charge beam change was weird, but if you put the versions side by side, the remastered version actually produces charge shots in the same rate as the original just with a couple more added shots. If anything, the remaster gives you a net positive rate of fire

Why Metroid Prime REMASTERED is a winner =====> its strengths are in its exploration, combat, music, and game design. They kept most of it and improved upon it especially the exploration of it with new textures and overall upgraded look.
@TagartTalking Жыл бұрын
From what I've tested, the time it takes to charge the beams is actually about 3 frames shorter in the Remaster, the extra shots that come out just make it seem longer. Do a side by side comparison from the moment the button is pressed.

I'm glad you highlighted, and called a pain in the dick, how the game forces you to shoot a couple times before finally charging your shot, and I have to admit, that even though I haven't YET played this game (I still fully intend to buy it once I can find it physically), this is a mechanic that I am very much not looking forward to. I can't even imagine why it was done this way. When I hold down the button, I want to be charging my shot right away, and this just seems to me like it feels really really bad and I want to understand why they did it this way... =(
@TarvouldsQuest Жыл бұрын
It is annoying for sure, but don't let it deter you. You DO get used to it, and the overall package has so much going for it that the couple little blemishes don't matter in the grand scheme of things. Though I have noticed a lot of chatter about this issue online, so I'm not alone in thinking this. That said, I'd LOVE a patch for this in the future. But again, doesn't hurt the game to any unplayable state or anything.

What's interesting is that even though the thermal visor is kinda low res looking and ghosty and shallow contrast now, that's actually how it would likely work if it were real. FLIR cameras often look that way due to the low res and low refresh rates by comparison to most visible light sensors, they also often have terrible contrast/imaging properties so usually they are paired with a normal camera, overlaying it on top of the image to create a combined one to make it alot more readable. its pretty cool stuff even though it's just a game, while it is more of a pain, and was kinda that way due to limitations compared to the original, I feel like its a bit more true to life, so that's actually kinda neat.
@esmooth919 Жыл бұрын
11:01 Why fix what wasn't broken? One thing you fail to mention is when a lot of soundtracks get remixed for remasters (Sonic Colors, anyone?), The remixes often suck compared to the original tracks. The original Prime soundtrack is god tier. No changes needed here.
@TarvouldsQuest Жыл бұрын
True, but I DID mention that most games that have remastered soundtracks usually add the option to switch it back if you prefer the old. More options is never a bad thing. Remastered tracks could be great, or be less good than the OG. But a toggle to change them can be all you need to satisfy everyone :)

Hold up, jumping Morph Ball is the X button?! MY GOSH just as I'm praising them over controls, they once again do some weirdness! It's like my pet peeve where they make NES or Gameboy game re-releases keep the A and B button inputs, when it feels like it should be swapped to Y and B to feel like Super Nintendo games.

A new Tarvould video is always a treat =) All the lighting stuff is weird. I would think, if anything, it would be way easier to do ambient or source lighting these days, as a lot of that is baked into modern game engines like Unity. AND WHY IS THE JUMP BUTTON NOT THE JUMP BUTTON But! Glad to hear Metroid Prime is still great as ever. I gave away my copy of the GameCube game years ago, so maybe I'll pick this up so I have it again.

oh... i havent played the remaster yet and what i thought about the light in the beams was removed so you used more the thermal visor, but that visor view sucks! I guess is because the dynamic lights with the new rendering techniques would bring the switch to its knees? (yes i know older hardware could doit but i guess since the wholre rendering pipeline was updated, the light rendering is just more taxing? is a random theory)
@vikingnoise Жыл бұрын
The weapon switching is what's killing this game for me, especially getting down into the Phazon Mines with the beam troopers and fission Metroids. There's no good reason to use a shift button for visors/beams at the same time there are duplicate button mappings for jump and fire.

Hard hard hard disagree on the original soundtrack being a 'let down' in this game. It already fitted it masterfully. For comparison, I loved the ever-living bonkers nuts out of Halo 2: Anniversary, and while the new recorded soundtrack was nice I always defaulted it back to Martin O'Donnel's recordings. It just fit the situation and context of the game best. That's true for Prime as well.
