No. But as a provider with more training in infection control than the general public, I feel confident that I'm microneedling as safely as possible. The results I have noticed are subtle but remarkable, especially when increasing my intake of collagen, vitamin C and using peptide-rich skincare each time I microneedle every 6 weeks. Even though the results are slow to notice over time, I feel like I am building collagen for my future self, and hope that the time and effort I put into my skincare now will have lasting benefits as I continue to age :)

Daily, which length and type of needle do you use?
@bluespiral46789 күн бұрын
@Happy_Adam the shorter the needle length, the more frequent microneedling sessions without any scarring or potential damage. Shortest is about. 25mm, and I've seen people in videos say every other day works for them. Bear in mind that the more you use a microneedling device, the more you must replace it. Dull needles are less effective. If you plan on needling every day or every other day, you'll be replacing the microneedling tool twice a month, assuming you're going the derma rolling route. I use a 1.5mm derma roller (192 needles) once a week and replace it every 10-12 uses or every 2.5 to 3 months. Your microneedling tool also has to be sterilized before and after usage to be on the safe side. I've only been microneedling for about 4 months, and the results are continuous. Any needle length longer than 1.5mm is best done by a professional. I think you get more bang for your buck with 1.5 mm. Less time needling and less replacement. Conversely, more pain and more hair growth. From what I gather with derma rolling, to be on the safe side, .25mm every other day; .5mm 3x a week; .75 mm or 1 mm 2x a week, and 1.5 mm once a week.

Microneedling at home is one of the best kept beauty secrets! What pay hundreds for something you can do in the comfort of your own home. There are plenty of videos out there- including videos for training purposes. I’ve been doing it in and off for years. I prefer the roller over the pen, despite the pen being touted as superior. Just found that if you are using shallower depth, the pen is fine- but if you’re going with 1.5-2.5mm, the roller is better- it doesn’t drag and pull like a pen can at those depths. I would do microneedling and peaks over lasers anyway!! I will NEVER use a laser on my face- there are too many variables to consider and too large of a margin for error when it comes to these devices. It’s a hard pass for me.
@larz45610 күн бұрын
That's very deep! The most recent studies show for hair 0.5 - 0.8mm is the best depth. And for the face, people have to be very careful to prevent scarring. Pen and stamp is superior because they go straight in and out. A roller will always have an angled entry and exit.
@loribrooks796410 күн бұрын
@@larz456 I understand. For me, I prefer the roller unless I am going quite shallow- then the pen is fine. Think about the pen logistically…. If the needles are going up and down whilst you’re moving the pen around, the needles CAN indeed “drag” when using over 1.5mm (in my experience). As for depth, I’m not a novice. I’ve been doing this for a decade. I know the areas in which I can go deeper as opposed to the areas that I must go shallow- like under the eyes. My results are quite amazing. This is just my experience. I’m not instructing others to do the same.

I've been using this depth at-home and I'm regaining my hairline after about 1 month. What Dr. Linkov shared about FDA approval is worth considering, but I'm not turning back. I microneedle once per week, after cleaning the area thoroughly and covering it in povidone-iodine. I will continue using a dermapen at home. I might not be a professional, but I can still control the depth, and as long as I don't go too deep I may not stimulate the bulge of the hair follicles directly, but I can still get benefits for the skin. Healthy skin equals higher likelihood of healthy hair too. Recent studies also have some promising data that 0.6mm wields the best results for hair count. I'm not sure if there's any validity to those studies, but they add up to what we already know. Scar tissue formation is not good and that's the only "fact", therefore don't risk going too deep. I'm not an expert, but I can use common sense and observe the way experts use the pen in videos to minimize collateral damage as much as possible. There was a study that showed good results with 1.5mm needle so used that like the study did x1 weekly. No issues at all. I think some of the cons are scaremongering. I saw two recent studies, one for the face and one for hair, and both studies showed that less depth gives better results. Firstly because of the recovery time and secondly, if it is too deep in the case of the skin, you are hitting the fat layer and in the case of hair, you are hitting the bulb. And also the frequency of once a week is more than enough. For the face, the best depth is 0.25mm/0.30mm.

I feel using a dermapen allows for even and controlled needle penetration. Would I prefer to see a professional for treatments, absolutely. I had 4 PRP treatments performed by a dermatologist 3 years ago, and had fantastic results. The problem is cosmetic procedures are incredibly expensive, and when it comes to treatments like microneedling, it’s not one and done. You have to continue treatment or you’ll lose any of the benefits that were obtained. I understand that this is a cosmetic procedure, so it is looked upon as a luxury. That said, especially when it comes to hair loss, the emotional and psychological impact can be overwhelming for many. It would be nice if that could be taken into consideration by professionals.

Use micro needling with a machine that is supported by consensus of being good for example Intelligent Microneedling Pen (More plates more dates (channel) supported). It takes no more than ca 15 minutes and cleaning is easy and "fast" (you need to water run it and air dry, then isopropyl alcohol clean it for 20 minutes and then air dry it again, which in total takes 2 days, but the actual process is a few minutes of you doing something (max 3 total uses pr needle head in my view)). I would not bother micro without oral minoxidil, but it is something one can consider before one is fully done with puberty and afterwards one should consider adding finasterid to the treatment via Proscar and pill divider. I would argue that a combined treatment is better because I would argue that thicker hair survives DHT better, but it wont win against DHT unless that is also treated (finasterid). Micro needling at home with machine, not roller (do not use roller), is very low risk in my view and a waste of money being done at a health clinic. After the 3rd session week 3 it will be like brushing your teeth. A routine and just FYI ti does not hurt at all, the needle part does not mean it is like taking a shot (I use 1,25mm deep). Keeping your hair, via such combo, is costly enough already.

I ended up getting a HORRENDOUS staph infection on my skin from at-home microneedling because I'm immunocompromised (transplant recipient). I was following Master Esthetician Penn Smith on KZbin and she has lots of microneedling videos so, naturally, I wanted to jump right into microneedling without doing my own research because I wanted to look like her! Flawless skin! Aging backwards! Etc... Well that's not a very smart idea. If you are immunocompromised, have any kind of autoimmune disorder that weakens your immune system or prone to infections, it's probably not the best idea to do at-home microneedling. Even the smallest little prick or abrasion on the skin that can let in bacteria that your body can't fight off and cause an infection to brew. In my case, it was Staph.

Been derma rolling with 1.5 mm needles (192 needle roller, once a week) for 3 months alongside using rosemary cineole oil and a topical coffee spray i use and the results are continuous. My scalp is sooooo much more loose and not as tight as it once was for so long. I also wear a red light therapy helmet for about an hour after which heals the scalp faster. Weird how microneedling on the scalp loosens the scalp for hair to grow and tightens skin on the face due to collagen production. Maybe it's due to hair follicles 🤷🏾♂️

I will continue to microneedle at home. Been doing it for a year and have had zero complications. That's great that the devices need fda approval but they are simple devices. All they do is make the needles go up and down. Not too complex and really not much room for error on their part - like what could go wrong - the device stops working? Ok not a big deal to me. Mine has always worked perfectly. I'm not concerned about the disposable needles I use either. I have had no problems with them.

Where is it you're experiencing the thinning of hair? I know my water intake and iron levels were seriously low and contributed to my hair loss at 25, and once I started taking better care of my iron levels (anemic) and water, it helped a lot. Microneedling can help for hair loss as well. But, is your hair thinning or are you losing your hair? Where is the loss?
@nyer5664 күн бұрын
I follow the directions completely. I soak my needle part in 91 percent alcohol for 20 minites and let it air dry. So far my lips are looking grest. Ar my age they are thinning out. They are no where like duck lips Lisa Rinna. But look plump enough so I can put lip liner and my new Estee Lauder lipstick looks great the lines are more defined enough for me to feel good enough to start wearing lipstick again and i feel good about it.

I had 2-4 tentatives in my life with microneedling.. obviously for anti hair loss. Zero / 0 gains. Every few years, at low moral point, i find my self re-trying it. Never does anything pozitive! In fact sometimes i stop doing it, cause i notice more hairs lost, say at shower (whats collected in the filter). Last time.. i've used it for even +3 months. I have some stamps, so not rollers, small stamps. I used them prior to shower.. First i clean them, incl with alcool. Scalp is just cleansed with water. Then do the thing on area of interest, target is to see redness, signs of blood, but just signs, 1mm. Got to say, hurts a bit. Right after i doo feel my scalp skin alert.. not pain pain. Then wash. At that time i had shampoo with salicylic acid. Rinse.. Twice/week. Session is 3m? Redness will bearly be visible in some hours, no way visible next day. Always clean after & before that stamp, incl in alcohol. Again.. this didn't work for me, i gave up on it.

Ooohhwweeee, the edge of the forehead can get pretty spicy if that numbing doesn't get all the way out there, lol. I have noticed quite a difference in my skin after 2 in office treatments. I will not microneedle at home - I feel that the roller barrel is not at a good angle when going in or coming out of the skin. You can't possibly be consistent with your depth all around, and while I know how to sanitize, I just wouldn't chance infection.

I looked at a clinical trial document i found to see what the % of collagen increase was supposed to be and found 2% of participants had no improvement at all. So I was 1 of the 2% that wasted their money.

I’ve tried the at-home Qure micro needling system for 3 months and saw good results. I felt confident using it because each micro needling attachment is sterile and gets tossed out after each use and also it’s safe because you can’t go too deep accidentally because the needle length is set from the way it’s designed.

I've given myself three 1.0 mm microneedling treatments at home in combination with rosemary oil. So, it has been a month. I see no appreciable results so far. My timeline is three months. If I see no improvement, I'll give up. The depth I use is based on my own research. Pain is not bad, but I do feel it, like being slapped. I'm not at all self-conscious with pattern baldness. I just clip it down super short, but it would be fun to grow a thick head of hair. As a doctor's wife once told me, "I don't mind a man who is bald as long as he doesn't." We all know what she means. Lose the comb over.

Also, for cis men who have low T and want thicker and more hair, whether or not they are on hormone replacement therapy. I wonder if genetics and T levels affect this, as well.

I had to purchase the needle and bring it in every time I went. It hurt though but it def made improvement on my skin. I def seen a difference with my skin. It looked more youthful. I did like the way it looked but it was expensive and it didn’t help with the extra skin fold by my eye that I was hoping it would help. But it def worked making my skin look more youthful

Yeah so much needs to be asked with diy microneedling that it doesn't feel worthwhile to purchase anything on the market today. Stamp vs roller, vs electric device. Needle depth. Needle width. Needle sterilization. Needle wear and replacement. Hardly any of these questions seem answered, but so many companies are willing to sell you it at the low cost of $20

The study which showed collagen induction with 1.5mm roller wrote the damage was to the outer superficial layer of the skin and that induced the wanted effects, so likely it wasn't going in all the way especially with a roller as 1.5 roller going fully in over facial skin is not really feasible.

The FDA approval issue was present when Dr. Linkov first shared that at-home microneedling is supported in research in his prior video. This research continues to grow in support. So, why create this updated video? It's not to sell more microneedling appointments, so is it to avoid lawsuits?

I've been micro needling for few years weekly and will continue doing so. I'm using a stamp since the roller did irritate my skin too much. What you're saying makes sense, but for me the fact that something is FDA approved isn't relevant. Both Minoxidil and Finasteride are FDA approved yet they caused me terrible side affects. Recommending treatments in the clinic also sounds like total BS since I don't trust them just as much. They are money-making technician and doctors, it's an industry just as much as selling derma rollers online. They don't care about my safety or the result, they care about money. Not many companies have a reason to invest in a micro needling research, nor do they have a reason to try and get devices approved.

Thank you for your video! Would you recommend microneedling in office as prevention for wrinkles? Currently, I use AGE-R in the airshot mode with red LED. It uses high voltage electricity to create temporary passageways, so the same idea as microneedling without the nettles (and possible contamination issues). I have sensitive skin and it works well for me. I don’t have many wrinkles and deep lines but I clearly see an improvement in volume (like a slight filler effect) and pore appearance.
