Is Minecraft a tool for artists? Minecraft is a sandbox game of seemingly endless possibility. It's a game I have spent a lot of time in making Mumbo Jumbo Minecraft videos and playing the Hermitcraft Server, and recently it's got me thinking: Can Minecraft be used as a creative tool to aid the process of creating art? From filmmaking, to painting to sculpting, I think Minecraft has an application, not just in the process of planning/testing ideas, but actually in the process of creating art itself. Minecraft filmmaking, Minecraft painting, and Minecraft art are all disciplines that have been formed from this game!

As someone who does many types of art I can say yes, yes it is a tool for artists. From 2D art, to 3D art to even writing and music it's helped me a beyond belief.

I'm surprise he didn't mention mapmaking. as someone who has made a map well, it's in progress. I would say it's definitely creative. especially for people who are better than me. you have to make a story. you have to build it's very creative. you should try it sometime random human on the Internet it's fun. also it's much easier than actually writing your story down and it's easier to imagine it's better for your audience. at least for me it is.

A good example of making films virtually is a KZbinr called captain jack. He has made the I guess would be a show called colony lost as it started as a survival pushing the game he made it in, space engineers to it limits in the first season colony survival. then it went to cinematic fleet battle with must be dozens of people behind the sense making it happen. It is amazing and worth the watch. The game it's self I think works quite well with that as you use block to make not just static things but movable ships and walkers. So massive fleet battles look cool with the game doing the realtime damage and explosions.

Pretty good content, and I agree that it's a very good tool that has a super low skill floor, but it also has a skill ceiling. Like you said yourself, there are specific tools for these purposes (like sculpting 3d programs for sculptors) which might have a but higher skill floor, but they also have a giganticly high ceiling. note: skill floor = how easy it is to start with something skill ceiling = how much you can improve with something (the perfect program has a floor with the height of 0, and a ceiling that's infinitely high)
