Is Modi's India flirting with fascism? | Head to Head

In this episode of Head to Head, Mehdi Hasan challenges Ram Madhav, National General Secretary of India's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and former spokesman of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the right-wing Hindu nationalist organisation and ideological wing of the BJP.
Last year, the election of Prime Minister Narendra Modi signalled a new era in India politics: promises of extraordinary transformation and economic development, but also a turn to right-wing Hindu nationalism, which has been accused of anti-Muslim, anti-minority rhetoric.
We explore whether Hindu nationalism is inherently exclusionary and if it is compatible with secularism and democracy, and probe violence against minorities. We also discuss human rights abuses in Indian-administered Kashmir, and how to bring peace to the region.

Dr Nitasha Kaul, a Kashmiri novelist, academic, economist and poet, and Assistant Professor in Politics and International Relations at the University of Westminster in London;

Dear friends, I am muslim. I am 40 Yrs old. My most of friends are Hindus and they are following their religion and we are following our believes. They join us for Eid, we make special dishes (vegetarian) for them. We never offer them what they don't eat. We did not eat beef. Practically speaking, majority of Muslims don't eat beef. I see only people who cannot afford, they eat beef. We have to ignore people who makes derogative comments in media. Interviews are useless. Intellectuals are causing more harm to society than a common man. If we see more these kind of programs, we are more disturbed. Life is very short, please enjoy, we have families, we have to give time to them. No political leader giving time to their families. There should be a law, like labor law, political leaders restricted to work max 10 hours in a day. So that, they can give time to their families. If they spend time with their families, they know the importance of life. Please let us work for patch up.

Before these comments get out of hand: I am an indian christian, and my opinion on this is that while I admire Ram for some of his thoughts, for others, I don't feel the same. Let me just say that as an indian christian i feel completely indian and safe in india, where y family has lived forever! Secondly, I do feel that india has been losing its culture-for me india's culture is indeed hindu-The mughal rulers in their dairies themselves called the land they were ruling hindustan, and continued to address it that way whilst they lived there. The mughals also considered themselves indian, according to their own words! Hence mughlai, indus, kushan, and all these time periods that bear a different culture at some point in indias long history are truly indian. I am also glad that the all the people except that one kashmiri are patriotic about india! They all equally care about the structure and way of life in india hence the reason why there is such arguments! Its much better then in the pakistani head-too-head, where literally that women kept continuously accepting her incompetency...She kept saying I accept my mistake, to the point the whole interview became about her mistakes. She didn't propose any argument(solution)t rather just accepted the fact she and her government in general failed. Like to have that much failure exposed...

+Nigel HenriquesLaslty on the issue of kashmir, I think it is in india's interest, although it is the state of jammu and kashmir, to just let kashmir vote. If they do become completely independent, we unfortunately will severe our ties, refuse trade or entry, and let it become the next pakistan/bangladesh, where people are dying to try to get into india, to the point india has to build a wall surrounding itself. India can otherwise spend the million of dollars going to "improve" kashmir on other things such as the poverty that everyone shames us about- we need to get rid of somewhat of that poverty!! And we need to focus on the things that we definitely and efficently and quickly handle such as the environment, our natural resources, education, textiles,etc. That reminds me- CAN WE PLEASE STOP THE GLOBALIZATION OF INDIA!!!???
