Morality is a behavioral instinct that evolves in social species. Done.

Of course morality is possible without god. Its as simple as the Golden Rule or "does saying or doing x hurt myself or others, either immediately or down the line?" That's why Native Americans have a saying "take care with your actions bc they will be felt 7 generations later". The true irony of this guy's "debates" is that if you really examine Christianity, its highly highly derivative of everything that came before. The helpful texts build directly off of Egyptian & Sumerian wisdom texts. All scripture is just a marketing tool to entice new followers from preestablished religions.

You absolutely can have morals without god, and moral relativism simply means, that each person has their own set of morals. Now Most people think killing is wrong, and helping people in need is good. This does not make it objectively good or bad to help or kill, but most people will see it as good or bad, since they have the same set of morals. Furthermore a society with better morals (evolutionary speaking) will more likely stand the test of time.

What holds someone to their morals? It’s obvious we do things we don’t agree with, I think having a mindset of accountability is what is important, which Jesus gives you especially when you take him whole heartedly, he also lays out what is right and wrong and how you can repent and turn because the lord knows we can’t do it on our own.

@@apezilla7232 society for instance if you kill people, you get put in prison. But even smaller stuff like walking around insulting people which is not illegal, would make people distance themselves from you. Now your second point of doing something we dont agree with. What exactly do you mean is it stuff like procrastination, lazyness or other things we know we shouldnt or what do you mean?

@@apezilla7232We did do it on our own. We did it for the hundred thousand years of human civilization that passed prior to any of the current major religions popping up. We held ourselves accountable. We created laws. We debated how best to live. We worked to create civil societies and we succeeded. We weren't perfect since it takes time to develop ideas on philosophy, mortality, etc. But let's not pretend humans were incapable of working amongst themselves to talk about morality prior Christian mythology showing up. The absolute arrogance of a statement like that. "No one knew right from wrong before us Christians showed up!" Give me a break...

@@apezilla7232most of us just feel it, we don't need to read a holy book to sense that hurting someone isn't a good thing to do. Now you can say that this feeling is caused by our soul, which is crested by God and fine, but I can also not believe in a god and be comfortable with what I understand as wrong or right. I like the thought of discovering how someone should behave, rather then it being given and there being no option of questioning what is wrong or right.

It's like Cliffe is only just beginning to comprehend the concept of objectivity and subjectivity. Clearly, he has an issue acknowledging the world may not ultimately reflect his narrow beliefs. But then he projects his insecurity onto others. Why should I care that my view of morality is meaningless on a cosmic scale? My moral interactions occur with other people who live and work around me, not photons beyond the cosmic light horizon.

All the ones where god commanded women and children to slaughtered. And for animals to be tortured. What a cool guy.
