Also tafseer from sahaba (ibn Abbas and others) says that music prohibition is meant where Qur'an mentions shaytaan trying to fool you with his voice.

Sami Yusuf, Maher Zain and many other artists like this makes Music which have beautiful meanings behind it and always are reminders to Allah ﷻ. What i hold, if the lyrics & the wordings are not against the teaching of Islam, musics dont invite people to adultery and drinking alcohols, did not contradicts the aqidah, musics are permissible.

It’s in Hadith of bukhari. Read the commentary of surah Luqman verse 6(31:6). Majority of scholars and Sahaba such as Ibn Masood and ibn Abbaas ra says it refers to music.

I used to listen to music before knowing it was haram, then all praise and thanks to Allah, I was informed and replaced the habit of listening to music with listening to the Quran. At first, you are very stressed, then day by day, your relationship to music will decrease and your love for the Quran increases. Instead of having a favourite singer, have a favourite Quran reciter. Doing this have made me memorise long Surahs of the Quran now. May Allah guide you and help you to do the same my brothers/sisters.

I use to listen to alot of EDM like dubstep an go to these concerts (raves)…. I had a really trippy experience at my last one an I said to myself I have to stop dis -obeying Allah I saw the mind control of the music an inside of the people an it got soo intense that I just actually left the concert (rave)….. I have been replacing music with Nasheed or Quran recitation… sense then I am almost done with the Quran an have been trying to learn how to pray …. Nothing is haram by default it's about how you use it. Money earned rightly halal. Money earned by fraud, interest is haram. Sex within marriage is halal, outside haram. Meat by slaughtering with name of Allah halal without it haram. Same goes for Music. If the music takes you away from Allah haram else it's halal.

First thing i do with a new phone, or others phones, is change the ringtone to a classic bell or beep, because it's the least offensive prohibition-wise. Unfortunately manufacturers default ringtone is music and no one cares even during salah.

Musicians are 3 times more likely than the average human to suffer from depression. 71% of all musicians suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. 68% of All musicians suffer from depression. And on the listener end music has been shown to be an equal to if not greater trigger for depression and anxiety as outside stressors and environmental factors. A University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine study came to this conclusion "that teens who reported listening to music more often - rather than using other types of media like TV and books - were at higher risk of having major depressive disorder (MDD), compared with teens who listened to music less frequently. With each level increase in music use, teens had an 80% higher risk of depression, the study found." May Allah protect us all!

Proofs from Quran that Music is Haram! 1) Allah Ta’ala mentions: “There are some who purchase futile discourse to deviate from Allah’s path without knowledge and they mock it [the path of Allah, Islam]. There shall be a humiliating punishment for these people” (Surah Luqman, verse: 6) Abdullah Ibn Mas’ud, Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas, Jabir (radiyallahu ‘anhum), ‘Ikrimah, Sa’id ibn Jubayr, Mujahid, Makhul and Hasan Al Basri (rahimahumullah) were all of the view that ‘futile discourse’ refers to music/ musical instruments. ‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ud (radiyallahu ‘anhu) took an oath that this verse is referring to music.

I thought I would never give up listening to rap. I was a hardcore fan. I made duah that my taste for music vanish. And it did. Idc about music anymore. I listen very occasionally but eventually it'll be zero

Music is such a wide concept. Which kind? Of course rap, hip hop, etc. is haram, but what about classic music, piano... should it be applied to all?

It's true over indulgence will have effects on you. But its not categorically haraam, the prophet PBUH allowed music and singing on various occasions as proven by sahih ahadeeth. Dont make the religion overly hard that it turns people away

Hmmm... I don't necessarily believe that music itself is haram. It becomes haram if it takes you away from Allah. But if you're reading, praying, and fulfilling the deeds of a Muslim. I believe it connects you to potential shahadas. I have to know what the streets is teaching in order to reach their hearts. You cannot connect to some non Muslim if you cannot relate. Music sets the blue print for the youth to release without drugs and alcohol. If you can reach the youth through Islam, it will change the world. Especially in the United States.

No in Quran the music word is not mentioned is haram, it’s the interpretation of لهو الحديث They interpreted as music which could be interpreted for something else also

But i wanna know, how could we explain this hadith if music is prohibited? : (the hadith is way longer, I took a part of it) "When they (the camels) hear the sound of music they become sure that they are going to be slaughtered." -Sahih Muslim 2448a -Sahih al-Bukhari 5189 Book 67, Hadith 123 It would be really helpful if you could answer. Maybe there is already an answer? If you could then thanks. Again im not claiming music is halal. The best and safest opinion is that music is haram.

whatever is mentioned as strictly haram in islam, are already guided and quoted in quran. now, about music, quran does not give any quote on quote idea whether music is haram. however, with today's music, the lyrics are very explicit, contains abusive language, makes people go in ecstasy, also in some culture music is experienced with different intoxicants. those kind of music and the experience along with it is completely haram. but quran refers a specific incident, when prophet sulaiman (as) was so mesmerised with the horses that he forgot to pray to Allah, that was a test from Allah as well. afterwards, he repented and even tried to hit every horse with a stick for his forgetfulness. so, does raising horse haram? the idea is, we were created to worship Allah, that is the main thing. anything that takes you away from remembering Allah is haram. excessive association with music, which even leads to forgetfulness is definitely not permissible in islam. but somebody who listens to beautiful hamd and naat e rasool, if you call those haram as well, I will never agree with you. Saudis eat Sanda (a kind of lizard) which they prescribe as halal, because of one hadith narrating khalid ibn al walid eating it in the presence of rasul (saw). there are hadiths where it is narrated that prophet (saw) did not abolish music. you can say it is discouraged, as it may take people away from Allah's worshipping. but saying something haram which is not quote on quote haram is itself a transgression. do not generalise everything
