I seen a question about a gun being broken, but I believe it is just a modification.

King of the Carcano, Professor Mike, really a wealth of knowledge on this rifle system. Great job as usual. If you want to learn this weapon system go to his site and watch his postings. Outstanding Mike hope you and the wife are doing well.

Interesting, I've got many Carcano rifles, but none have this modification. I collected Carcanos when nobody wanted them (they were cheap). It is good to see they are now getting some attention.

Your videos are absolutely awesome! I just acquired a cavalry carbine and I've learned alot from the videos!

Thanks Mike. Great video. One of my Carcano carbines has this same modification. The stock on it was sporterized so I wasn't sure if it was done by the same person who did the stock or if it was done previously. My example also is not import marked.

I’m no expert but would that modification allow the rifle to operate in single shot mode? Would that extended follower be enough to support the shell so the extractor would work properly. I think that would be more of an advantage to a soldier engaged in battle Plus I would think that if you did not realize you were empty and went to chamber with out a round the force forward would break the follower. I have been watching your videos a lot as I have purchased 2 Carcanos recently and have found your channel extremely informative. Thanks for all your hard work and sharing. Would like to know your thoughts. H

Neat, good to know, especially since IDK how to get that arm out of the magazine/bottom metal out if I did run across one and want to replace it with a original condition part.

Hey I've bought 2 of these rifles and having trouble with the shell getting stuck in the bore after firing. Is that because I still have some of that Cosma stuff inside it or add something else being the problem?

This is the same problem I'm having. Have you fixed it? I bought a 1929 cavalry carcano about a year ago and it's quite accurate. Loads and unloads fired rounds very smoothly but after firing the gun is almost impossible to open and sometimes requires being hit with a mallet. I can turn the bolt up and down but can not pull back as the fired brass is stuck. When I check the brass there is no visible signs of expansion or buldging

Hello! Love your video but have a question. I collect alot of surplus guns usually matching numbers if european as i have a shop i do frequent buisness with. I bought a carcano carbine with full wood no bayonet matching numbers from terni 1929 and the gun is in decent condition for a carcano and has a nice tight bore. My problem is that with normal ppu ammo as this is all i have, it loads and ejects unfired rounds very smoothly and the chamber seems to be smooth, no burrs or anything, but when i fire it, the gun takes at best a ridiculously hard pull, at worst a rubber mallet to the bolt handle is required. Now ive only fired around 15 shots through it and it is quite accurate at around 30 yards grouping almost on top of eachother bur if i try to take the old brass and put it back in the chamber it will not go. Qhen comparing the brass to unfired rounds there is no noticeable increase in size or shape and no buldges. The brass length increases about .01 and the width by about .012 in the lower areas. The neck and shoulder retain about the same size. Is my chamber eroded too much? I dont plan on shooting again till i find a new gunsmith to look at it. Unfortunately my gunsmith of 15 years has cancer now and has stopped working so im at a loss for a good new smith in the suffolk va area. Please let me know your thoughts

What you are describing is very strange, first thing is the PPU ammo factory ammo, or is it reloaded ppu cases and bullets, because they are the only makers of that ammo and components, from what you are describing to me that did happen to me once with a load data I got from the internet that used ball powder and a magnum primers, If you are sure that it is actually factory ammo and not reloaded ammo, it could be a head space problem.

@michaeljohns1019 so I ordered some new ppu ammo to make sure, it came in the new ppu box same as the old ammo with .264 diameter bullets. Compared the ammo and notices some oddities. Of course the fmj was longer than the soft points I ordered this time but the brass neck on the fmj seemed longer too. Anyways quite odd. Shot the first soft point bullet, very light recoil it surprised me as the fmjs I shot had a much heavier thump. I ejected the round which was still very hard I had to put it on my knee and yank down, but I did get it free without a hammer. Looked down borenfor any squibs and was fine so fired 2nd shot. Again very light I was quite happy with accuracy and light recoil but ejection was bad still. The cases on these looked a bit better, still a small white pressure ring about 1mm above rim groove as happens on most of my tapered military surplus rounds, like 303 or 7.62x54r with no issues. The primers were flat with nice holes although the carcano bolt seems to strike off center of the primer. The original fmjs slightly buldged which concerned me but again not unusual for old military rounds to have harder primers and require deeper firing pins but with the 2nd round again no issues here. THEN THE 3RD ROUND. so as I go to fire the 3rd round to finish off my group and see what I could determine from everything, a cloud of gas shoots back and is somewhat deflected by the safety on the right and the firing pin lug on the left side, but a small amount comes back and hits me in the right eye. I stopped and assessed myself and eye it was only a small bit of powder gas. The primer on the 3rd round punctured and the carcano did a great job of mitigating the venting gasses away from me to the point all I had to do was go rinse my face off and was fine. I deffinantly should have been wearing shooting glasses I know, but luckily I was ok. Looking at it now I think the gun has some headspace issues and probably could use the firing pin shaved a bit for modern ppu primers. I didn't have the tools to check the firing pin depth but I thought it wasn't excessive originally. While it could be fine and just an ammo issue I'm going to get it smithed to be sure. It's a shame because compared to most carcanos it's in very good looking condition and has good rifling and accuracy but I'm afraid it has headspace or chamber erosion that needs fixing. I have a collection of surplus guns from all countries and don't want to sell it, but I also can't shoot it like this so it's a bit saddening. I also have a nice matching m91 bayonet for it and it's such a handy great little scout rifle I really hope it doesn't cost me alot to fix it.

@michaeljohns1019 it also sucks cause I don't want to rechamber to another round either I want to keep it military original, but the gun has a few issues that need to be fixed and I don't want it to be a money pit. The matching numbered stock has some hairline cracks that need fixed, the nose cap screw and hole are tight together but the threading is stripped, last time I had to punch it out, and the action screws loosen after a couple shots which means I need to locktite those down once I get the gun in working order. The buttplate is also super rusted and needs to be replaced with good screws and the screw holes need some extra wood to grab to tighten them up. All in all a few easy fixes but I just dont know if I want to take the time to do them if the gun ends up a lemon

Does this mean that everyone is gonna pick up an RTI Carcano and modify their follower so they can run it all "tacticool" in a 2 or 3 gun? 😂
