Assisted pedaling sounds useful and I can understand having full electric as a backup if you get tired or sore and are farther from home.

back in the day my autoshop teacher got to borrow an electric bike and let us ride it, the assisted pedaling is beyond useful. makes steep hills absolutely effortless.

My dad is 60 and retired. During his working years he gained a lot of weight, so having one of these e-bikes with assisting pedaling helped so much with him getting active again. Between biking and working at the golf course part time, he's lost a bunch of the weight and he's so much happier. It's truly a great bike!

I love that you refer to it as a tool! I think I remember you using that term for your wheelchair a while back. I'm just realizing that my own total dislike of my wheelchair is not right because as you say it IS a tool that we do need. That bike is really rad... love it!!

As a fellow BKA, may I recommend the Hustle Magnetic Peddles. They really help keep your foot on the peddle but allow you the freedom of no clips or harness. (Very dangerous, speaking from experience) I found my prostetic tends to come off the peddles due to centrifugal force. The Hustle peddles solved that problem.

Sweet! In the Boston area, eBikes are now included in the public Bike Share program. A friend of mine toddled around the city to many of the public parks on one and said it was hilarious how easy it was to get around. You could make it all the way to Concord on the bike paths. Just keep an eye on the juice. Thanks for the video 😅

I never thought about ebikes being used to help people with disabilities. I think that is awesome.
@StonedtotheBones137 ай бұрын
Quite a few things are like that. Idt e bikes were especially designed with disabilities in mind, but a lot of that weird "as seen on TV" stuff (think snuggles) is intended for disabilities, but needs to appeal to a wider audience to actually make profit.

My 78 year old father has an electric assist bike that he LOVES. He rides 20+ miles every day that it isn’t raining! We live in a very hilly area that would make it hard to ride a normal bike in. They are a wonderful invention!!
@catreader97337 ай бұрын
There are many people who can benefit from assisted pedaling and the throttle boost. For me, I have a pair of knees that just are not normal; I have full range of motion, but it's better to avoid flexion and extension under extra pressure (and twisting). The pedal assist and occasional usage of the throttle allows me to ride with less risk of knee injury.
@Thekingofwatching7 ай бұрын
I have seen so many e-bikes. My tricycle has a pedal assist feature. But I always make sure that I pedal because I can. The one I got before that does not have the assist feature. But it’s somehow the gears are stronger and it’s easier at times when the battery is not charged

As someone with Hypermobility this sounds like it would be so useful😭 I can’t currently bike cause of joint pain and I also have heart problems caused by Hypermobility which make any type of exercise extreamly difficult and not in a “I’m a little tired after a little while” way but a “I ran for a few minutes and now I’m super nauseous and I can’t breath and if I stand I will pass out or throw up or both” way so yeah this would be so useful😭

If you are considering renting, purchasing, or borrowing an ebike, be aware that not all ebikes include a throttle,. There are three classes of ebikes, differentiated by rated power of the motor and whether there is a throttle. You can easily learn about the classes and the local legislation regarding riding in your prospective area.

Thought about you the other day while I was using the jacuzzi at my gym. Would you have your prosthetic on when you use a jacuzzi or a swimming pool? The thought of everyone else silently freaking out as you walked up, popped off your leg, then hopped in was quite amusing to imagine.

I kinda have bad experiences with those, and I never even sat on one. I see the positives on these. But since I saw too many accidents with those, I can't get warm with them. If used for outdoors? Great!!! In the city? Big no no! They are too fast to be ridden without a licence, if you ask me... Once a half drunk senior ran over a 4 year old, right after letting my bit his dust. He passed me at a very dangerous point on the tracks next to the river. And I was going 15km/h, not my usual 22km/h, cos those tracks are for pedestrians too and the ground is one where sudden breaks are actually dangerous. There is gravel. And right after... there is a section where the track hits the road, so the tracks go underneath the road. And there he just didn't see that boy walking next to his mother, grandma. He felt on top of that boy, with his E-Bike! So a whole lot of weight on that tiny kid. He was unconscious for at least a minute and when he came to, he was totally scared and couldn't even scream. His mother was so anxious and angry. And that seniors wife was all: "oh my poor husband!!" I was trying to keep other bikes to run in that accident, and called an ambulance. Those stupid seniors wanted to leave after ARGUING who's fault this was for over 10 minutes. I was so holding on, to not scream at that man. Cos the mother was already so angry. I was giving a statement to the police about what happened and the boy was taken to the hospital for a checkup. The doctor in the ambulance was so great! He was very calm and asked the little guy to follow him to the hospital several times. Just making sure the boy wasn't scared more, but still trying to let him know "better safe than sorry". I didn't hear again from the police, so I think the boy must have been ok. Otherwise they would for sure have needed me in court.

Does it hurt a lot to ride a normal bike? Im still in rehab and i have a prosthetic since one week. But i like cycling a lot , for my health also , so i want to know if its going to be possibe to do so. I also lost a whole hand except the thumb so they have to find something to fix that. And i broke my back on 2 places and almost every bone in my body. I know that will give me some surprises once i start cycling again.
