. On page 53, in the list of school supplies that Harry receives from Hogwarts, the item “1 wand” must appear twice, once at the beginning and once at the end. This mistake was corrected in the second printing of the book (although it re-appeared in some later printings).

Anyone have any experience with the First Edition prints released in Australia? Seems as though only 2000 were printed, selling for around $1k AUD. Keen to know if the same rules apply (misprint on Page 53)? Seems everything else matches up, but obviously these are not as rare as UK 1st.

@Rhodri123006 жыл бұрын
In short: It's not worth a lot unfortunately. As it is the fifth printing it is too late to be of considerable value as many thousands were printed by this point. It was also printed by Raincoast instead of Bloomsbury, therefore, it will not be worth as much as a UK Bloomsbury copy (Raincoast is Canadian). I assume it isn't a hardback as it is a later printing which will decrease it's value further. Depending on the condition I think you'd be fortunate to get more than £20 -£30 for it I'm afraid to say. I hope this helps.

I have a question. I was looking at my softback copy of the book I got in Canada and it has the number sequence going 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2. So like you said, I'm assuming it's a second edition. But on page 53, it does have the misprint even though you said it wouldn' t have it in the second edition. It's in pretty good condition, but not perfect condition and it still just has some normal wear and tear. I'm pretty confused about the whole misprint thing and that's it's not suppose to be in the second edition and just wanted to know if it was worth anything. Please reply!
@PokePresto6 жыл бұрын
Deffinetly worth a bit however i am assuming you have a canadian/US edition book and they are valued a lot lower then the first edition bloomsbury ones. Remember the book first made its way to the US when it had gotten quite popular in britain.
@Rhodri123006 жыл бұрын
If it has the number sequence 10-2 it is a second printing, not a second edition. The difference is that the first time a publisher releases a new book for all copies of that book that are printed without major changes can be considered a first edition. If the initial run of this first edition sells out and the publisher decides to produce a subsequent printing with the same typeset the book would still be described as a first edition but as a second printing. On the other hand, if substantial changes are made to the book after its first printing, perhaps the addition of a chapter or a forward, then the book would be described as the second edition. Printing changes, therefore, is what matters, not editions when it comes to value. A UK version of a second printing of the philosopher's stone could be worth upwards of £200 depending on condition but as yours is a Canadian publishing I doubt it would be more than a few tens of pounds as it is much less desirable unfortunetely. Hope this helps.
@Real_Scott_Pilgrim3 жыл бұрын
this is a very infamous aspect of the canadian editions. What you have there is indeed a 1st printing, however, the publisher made a mistake a printed it with a 10 - 2 number sequence instead of 10 - 1. They were actually asked about this, and have no records of a 10 - 1 philosopher's stone book in their archives

I had to check my books to see if they were first editions, none of them are. Weird that my Philosopher's book just says '38' instead of a string of numbers. Says its edition came out in 2001 and has the old wizard on it. So judging by those it probably isn't worth much if anything xP I did check the other books I have and they weren't first editions either, even if the Order of the phoenix was it got wet and the binding degraded to the point of falling off lol.

As the number line only goes down to 21 it means that 20 other publishings had already taken place meaning millions of copies had already been sold by the time yours was printed.
