I can not believe they did not realize how much the front end damage created a tremendous amount of wind resistance and drag. One of the main reasons these cars get decent mpg for a big car is because the body shape is very aerodynamic. I own one and love it even though no one else does.

Had a 99 GTP with a 3.4” pulley, 3” exhaust, a cold-air intake, and a reprogrammed PCM. Best run at Bandimere Speedway (5000+ ft) was 14.85 @ 98 mph. Biggest enemy was knock - the PCM would pull timing like crazy. Go with highest octane fuel you can get. Drove that GTP for 20 years, still miss her.

Don't be disillusioned with the numbers. Gonna take more than just a generic pulley drop and a can tune. I have a 2002 Regal GS that runs low 13's. Blew the stock motor and invested in a long block from Summit racing and threw an intercooler on it with a 3.0 pulley, 44# injectors, ZZP headers and a true cold air intake, stock cam but went with the 1.8 Yella terra roller rockers. 2.5 catback. Plus some other mods to complement the major mods, thats where you start to see big gains like only a dyno tune can make ...Happy modding

heat is a huge issue on these L67 cars. My Park Ave Ultra is noticeably faster, even bone stock, when the temps are 60* and below. They just get heat soaked so easily. In roughly 50-60* temps my bone stock PAU will do roughly 6.5-7sec 0-60 depending on wheel spin. Very cool to see someone modifying a PAU, keep up the good work!

It's quite a bit quicker than stock, but not "Cranked to 11." Intercooled, modular pulley set up (M90 is ported & polished), Mahle pistons, full Comp Cam kit, counter-rotating shaft removed (Double roller chain, fully balanced rotation assembly, oiling hole blocked), ARP hardware, thermal barrier coated SS headers, Magnaflow exhaust, transaxle by Triple Edge (rated for 750 hp &750 ft/lbs), LSD- brakes & suspension are upgraded to match. Somehow I removed the serpentine accessory drive belt without pulling the motor mount on my 96 Buick Park Avenue base I think I turned it inside it out or something I don’t even remember how I did it. I did it by accident really because I was really frustrated with it that I couldn’t get it back on the police because of that damn motor mount because I was doing the coolant elbow upgrade, turning mine from plastic to the aluminum upgraded one and to do that you got a loosen the belt but I can’t remember exactly how I got it back but I do remember I didn’t have to remove or mess with the motor mount at all. Not even jack the motor up. I guess I did just turn the belt inside out online or pulled over differently. I’m not sure I don’t remember it’s been about three years ago

Wow, being an Englishman brought up on our European diet of cars I am amazed at the performance figures for big American cars. Not too surprising when you remember how much metal is being moved I guess. Fuel at over $7 a gallon here is a motivation to keep the cars small (helps with the small roads too) and that then gives low weight and better performance even with little often 3 cylinder smaller cc engines. It does need some recalibration in the mind department though - 3.8l supercharged engine and 0-60 of 7 + seconds. I was expecting sub 6 in my head. Nice comfortable luxury though, and forgetting fuel costs, I know which I would prefer to be driving. Keep the videos coming they are great fun, thank you from one of your followers in the old country.
@israelballew4155
@israelballew4155 3 жыл бұрын
A few things hold these cars back, the first being transmission gearing. 1st gear is massively long allowing the car up to 50mph until it shifts into second. This keeps the engine out of it's power band quite a bit. I believe this was done to limit wheelspin and improve economy on the highway, as that's where these cars were designed to live. Secondly, the supercharger on these cars is tiny and poorly optimized. Gm put pretty much no effort into lowering intake air temps, so the car pulls timing like crazy when it's heat soaked. Sure, it makes 240hp when cold, but when heatsoaked it's probably about 180-200. Lastly, the park avenue is monsterously heavy at about 3800 pounds (almost two tons). The Buick regal GS and Pontiac grand prix were both much lighter and had better gearing, bringing them down to a 6.5 second 0-60 stock, and can easily be down into the 5s with a few mods. Buick marketed the 3800 SC as a v8 alternative. Again, it was make to be smooth and powerful on the highway. Not really a drag racer.

The reason your average fuel economy is 50% of what it should be is, E85 fuel, a tune to run E85 fuel which forces more fuel to the engine, a smaller pulley which spins the turbo faster incresing fuel consumption, constantly doing fast starts, and your catalytic converter most likely needs to be replaced or deleted. A high performance air filter like a K&N, would also help with fuel economy.

Adding an intercooler to an M90 requires very costly and not terribly effective sandwich intercooler stacks. The best thing to do is ditch the supercharger and add a turbo. This also has the effect of being way gentler to the transmission due to the way the boost builds.

@@100PercentJake Jake! Look at a Snow Performance Methanol & Water injection system triggered off the MAF . You can set the activation point and the spray curve - this unit lowers IATemps dramatically if you use -32 washer fluid spiked with a quart of 91% isopropyl alcohol. I used it on my 1996 LT4 Turbo TA - lots of fun! Using this you can re-tune / lower the PWM percentage of your injector tables (for higher MPG on that E85) and let the boost cooler act as a fuel enrichment device as well.

We swapped the injectors and tested the new ones outside the car. The old ones were fine, but we did it anyway.

Try putting the original pulley back on the super charger and see what happens to the economy.

Middle aged Buick Park Avenue expert here. You've got serious issue with your video. 1. You must use Super Unleaded no Ethanol in an Ultra. You can use regular if you have gas pills. 2. You cannot judge regular vs Ultra in different years. They have vastly different gear ratios etc. 3. You must be impressed your friends clunker is still driving. You cannot kill these cars. 4. Every Park Ave in driveable condition can do 0-6 in under 8 seconds. We were all laughing. We have 4 in the family currently and have owned every year. I guess I can come close to this test as we have a 98 and 99 Ultra. PS. Bitron, Michelin Tires, NGK Iridium Spark Plugs, Mobile 1 full synthetic, change supercharger oil and fuel filter min 10k miles...Much love to any Park eficianado.

I have one and it is great. I tell people that need a cheap used car to buy one and they cringe. They are image conscience millennials who shun old. U.S. sedans.

@@josephedwarddowling5919 I need a cheap car. I'm looking at a park but also regal GS. I love sport sedans.
