IS MY TURBO KNACKERED?

Having worked on and owning vauxhalls all my driving life. Nost of the time its the turbo.. best way to check if its turbo seals is.. when you are in say 5th gear slowly let off the accelerator and look in your mirro if you see smoke it will be the turbo if its smoke on acceleration its valve stem seals. blue smoke on start up can also be just let over oil in your pipes if you have just fitted a new turbo so dont just assume the new turbo has failed.

If it smokes when your foot is down then its the turbo if it smokes while idel its the stem seals or the piston returns your oil leak is from the oil return feed

Hi yes compression test is the next thing .need pressure wash lower front part of engine. So it can run and be checked later to trace leak?

Get few tins of carb cleaner and spray over the engine,pipes etc(not on any paint) as you won't find a leak with that mess. As few have said turbo could be leaking on the exhaust side so check downpipe. There is a tiny tint of blue smoke so there is oil defo being burnt.

Guys ! I've got a 1.9 Sri Cdti and when I press the accelerator a squeaking noise comes from the engine. Cambelt and water pump changed! Pulleys and tensioners all good! Fan belt also changed. YET THE NOISE IS STILL THERE? ANY IDEAS

I used to have a vxr was a weird one get new ngk plugs from eurocarparts and it ran like shit shortly after was missing like crazy, went and got some direct from vauxhall (ngk) fixed my issue 👍oil leak get the oil cleaned off will make it easier where its coming from and you can narrow it down to a small location

Ive got the same issue myself mate, ive gunked the area and rinsed all the oil off and it seems to be either the oil feed banjo on the top of the turbo running down or the oil return seal. Ive ordered both today so ill do an oil and fiter change at the same time. Oil return only needs to be done up to 8nm 👍

Mine was smoking loads when i revved and on tick over, replaced valve stem seals and nothing at all now got a double decat too.

@@cbecks2051 It can make all the difference when its warm or cold. My VXR only smoked when it was cold due to worn rings. Can usually see when the turbo seals are going when you come to a stop, the exhaust will have a few blue puffs

20 quid for a compression tester mate, turbo core can be replaced genuine borgwarner £180, but don't leave it to late as I had this issue and 2 weeks later engine went and smashed a couple of my valves

Hi mate try checking there is no play in the turbo could be a seal that is going can you smell a burning smell if you warm it up ( just a thought) hope it helps

plus you have decat it so afr will be all over place. plus your oil return pipe they always leak you need a 3rd generation pipe as it has a o ring for better sealing. i also did same with mine and just bought a hybrid turbo for the ko4 turbo better for high boost can handle more pressure and also when you decat it there no back pressure so haveing hybrid it a better in long run

Open up the coolant tank, see if any pressure is present after 2 mins of running. Could be cracked head

Have you got an oil restrictor bolt? Because with a decat and a free flowing exhaust the oil pressure becomes too much, especially for the seals that are in or on the turbo, worth looking into if you haven't got one pal!!

problem with VXR is chocolate gear box. also same goes to turbo ill would say maybe bit of both but it be steam seals. best way to find out take turbo off with its manifold you will see the valves and 4 sure they will be caked in oil

J chatting shit u are Nothing wrong with the gearboxes as long as u look after them and use hi grade gearbox oil u wnt get the so called chocolate gear box issue

I'd clean off the oil around the turbo and look into the oil return sealing properly first, simple cheap fixes first. Also pop the pre-cat/decat off the turbo and check for excessive play in the shaft, you should have a mm or so standard. I see theres some oil where the manifold meets the block, were your stem seals done with the head on?

Oh and definitely check that one way valve. Take it off, clean it and try blowing through it both ways. Obviously it should only let through one way. Only a couple of quid to replace anyhow so a new one wouldn't hurt regardless.

My Zafira vxr was leaking oil abit like yours I replaced the oil feed pipe gasket under the turbo had nothing since give that a whirl 👍🏼

Just being Hayden clean the turbo off with some break cleaner let it dissolve the oil wipe over with a rag then run the car up and have a look underneath whilst running probably the only way your find out

Give everything a good clean then run it and see where it's leaking from, from what you showed us the oil return looks fairly suspect. Cheap and easy enough to change if it is. Smoke wise it could be either the rings, turbo or the stem seals

I know your probably limited for time but if the compression test doesn’t prove much, its probably best to remove piping and check the turbo for shaft play, or even build up of creaming round the oil cap, highly doubt the head gaskets gone cause the oil in the last video looked decently clean, just looked tad burnt from daily cycling when the engines on, in my opinion the oil leaking from the cam cover would only drip down the block or even burn off on the manifold, even some of the oil round the turbo and turbo bolts looked quite new you could see it still dripping👍🏻 keep up the good work though mate nice to see you try your best

If you have a 3inch full exhaust that will affect it if its the standard map, my coupe turbo was terrible until stage 2 map now it runs sweet! 👍

Get some wd40 engine degreeser spray the whole area wash it off then go for a drive you may be able to see whare it leaking from And pull the coil pack cover off again and see if the plugs are coverd in oil again Blue smoke is oil being burnt so if its not the stem seals then or turbo Then rings are the next guess

Take the manifold and turbo off thats your best option pal, there could be a hairline crack somewhere on the exhaust side or the core itself

Hi, clean all the oil off with muc off degreaser and hose pipe first, when the vxr turbos fail, you can see oil between the hot side of turbo where it bolts to centre housing from under the car, only other place is the oil return seal has failed, but you have the updated one on which has a rubber O ring built in the top. also you will consume lots of engine oil when turbo seals fail. Also if you run 5/30 oil its piss thin when hot so most vxr owners run 5/40 or 10/40 only. Hope this helps you out as done loads of these over the years.

ok if u put nevlock seal then its ya turbo 100% oil dont alway show up in the intercooler pipe. so its.leaking into the exhuast side hense smoke best is take pri cat pipe of thats your first pipe from turbo the you will see.the turbine see if you see oil and how much play in the shaft you have. compression test per cylinder for vxr is 150psi aroumd that mark. there is away to find out if its your rings is but some oil in where spark plugs go in and then to a test after your base test. i cant remember if reading goes low or high then ins yoir rings but there plenty i fo on internet when you test eith oil they will tell you good look hole its not rings and just your turbo
