A secular state where all religions are welcome and equal before the law. That idea is at the core of India's constitution.
But many believe it's under threat. Hindu nationalism has been emboldened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi since he was elected in 2014.
His government has taken measures that have raised fears among muslims in particular.
A new citizenship law offers illegal migrants of religious minorities from three neighbouring countries the right to become citizens of India.
But it excludes muslims. That's sparked anger and protests nationwide.
But will that make Modi change his mind?

What about? Go and educate yourself. There is complete secularism here in Qatar. There are many temples in Qatar (and none of them got destroyed). Yet they ruled in favor of the demolishers. That's how "just" your court is. [Ironically, there are many temples in ayodhya today, most of them claiming that Ram was born in their temple]

Indian economy is in shambles, unemployment at the highest, women and children security issues, public services are at the lowest level, banking system struggling, poor farmers and workers are in acute poverty, big cities won't have drinking water within three years, pollution is killing the people and this govt is paying no attention at all to the basic needs of the public.
