Is "New World: Aeternum" Worth Playing?
The answer to that question might be different on who you are, and what you're looking for. Regardless of who you are though, this video gives an overview of what you can expect from this game on the day of the launch, as well as the many months and years to follow.
Long story short: I don't care who you are - the "Deluxe Edition" is NOT WORTH it. If you are a casual player that enjoyed MMOs or ARPG's with some online-gameplay, I would say the standard edition IS WORTH IT.
If you are a hardcore gamer, I would still say it's worth your money, but to proceed with caution. As a PC player since launch, I quickly accomplished all the available content that the game has to offer. Whenever new content is released, it's often completed within days. If you are hardcore, expect some disappointment with new content down the road.

@@janeway7953 it’s all good lol, maybe the bear mount will be cool? You’re just going to come across hundreds (maybe thousands) of skins and transmog opportunities, and there’s some pretty cool mount skins available (free and for purchase) out there already. Plus, they have an in-game store where $20 could probably get you a decent handful of stuff. It’s all good though, if you plan on going hard on the game and stuff it’ll just be sprinkles on the fun experience!

I played a while back on my brothers older gaming laptop. was only able to play about 30 hours over a few weeks then kept getting errors and having to delete and re download. I seriously can't wait to play this on PS5. ( I love RS but have stopped PC gaming and only use my laptop for college and work now) so having something that fills that void and is not class/weapon bound makes me happy.

Just read you have to buy the Angry Earth Expansion if you want to get the new version of the game on October 15 for free. if you bought the base game for 40$ they will be deleting that version and you will have to rebuy the new version. people are going to be so pissed

Elder Scrolls is MASSIVE in comparison to New World, however most of the older content is dated and irrelevant. New World has more freedom building your character since ESO DOES have classes and your character is stuck in the class you chose for the rest of the game, if you want to try a new class you have to create a new character. Another thing I disliked in ESO is the absurd ammount of paid DLC, and on top of paid DLC there are paid expansions, granted...you can purchase an ESO Plus membership (don't remember current pricing) and it instantly unlocks ALL DLC and expansions with the exception of the most recent one), but that's a monthly fee that New World doesn't have. It's really up to what you want in an MMO, if you just want a lot of content, story and you like the ESO lore and aesthetic, go for ESO but prepare to throw money at it, if you just want a kinda simple MMO that doesn't really require you to use real money unless you want the current expansion, go for New World.

Thank you Savvvo for this review. It is very helpful and appears unbiased. I just pre purchased the game for xbox and was, am again now, realy excited about this. It had been compared to runescape and elder scrolls to me, and I just eat that up. Then I read some of the reviews. O.M.G.... 😮 But you have helped. Maybe the influx of console games and the cross platform game play will help encourage Amazon to make new content? 🙏

The game got review bombed right when they announced it coming to console. They hyped up a huge announcement to completely change the game for many months to the existing PC community, and it was basically just that it was coming to console….which made the existing player base very upset, leading to the negative reviews piling up. It’s a great game and worth the money!

I will be there day 1 on Xbox! I will take your advice and avoid the deluxe edition. I recently left FF14 with over 8000hrs put into it...the subscription based games I'm just over it. And have been following new world since it's release and have always been interested in trying it...can't wait!!

Loved the game but content is lacking and it is amplified by how dev team promises and hypes oncoming content and just doesn't deliver. When the console launch is around it is one year of promises of new content and actually delivering something that is arguably done and over with in two weeks. Devs these days focus on bringing what they want, not what players want.

I have been enjoying New World alot. I see players that have even 6 thousand hrs on this game and complaint about the price. 6 thousand hrs is alot of hrs for a game. So that to me says its worth it for 60 bucks.

When it's working, ie end of season 4... it's actually great . Has most of the standard features of an mmo. When it's not working like right now ( block is bugged, desync and lag are massive even with like no one on the servers, and their are rampant exploits) it's a bad time. Unfortunately every patch is a roll of the dice. You never know what bugs are going to find their way in to their finished product, and even when we play test it, find a game breaking bug, they'll still release the patch and we'll have infinite stamina light rollers and flying hatchet men for a week or two. 😅 it's a whole thing.

@@Savvvo well tbh it was always like this, but I came back yesterday after months, ran some OPR, one tank just shielding against 7~10 players alone for like 3 min, as if he has 100k Con. And his dmg hurts. People were saying something about "GS bug" that makes one tanky or something. I have 200 con, and can't even stand dmg from 2 people for 3 seconds. It just threw me off and quit. (I played since launch on and off for total of 1000+ )It might be personal but the idea of how one shield tank can tank alone for 3 min against 5+ people throws me off, more than when blunderbuss could one-shot 200 Con med armor

As far as content and how long it takes to do I played wow from 2005 until last raid in shadow lands and not one expansion after icc took me more than two days to max new levels and I always bought the collector’s edition 70-80$ and a 15$ a month subscription do the math on that one new world is a massive bargain for the hours you will get

I have 5.6 thousand hours in New World. There are many people playing with more hours than I have, It is worth playing. The biggest drawback is the management of the game. Not the devs necessarily but probably whomever is above them. They really don't want to hear from you, they don't care what you think and won;t give you the things you ask for. The game itself is great and I think the devs are great though a bit clueless at times. Their marketing and PR are straight trash though. TLDR Amazing game, TERRIBLE management.

Thank you for this review, and thanks for being as honest as you can. I loved the historical/fantasy premise of New World ever since the reveal trailer. Unfortunately, I’m a Xbox gamer, so I couldn’t get my hands on the game. So, I was super excited when it was announced that New World would come to consoles. As an arpg/rpg fan, I definitely have been wondering if New World would be able to keep me interested both playing multiplayer and more solo.

New World is the best looking, best sounding and has the best combat of any mmo on the market at the moment. The revamped leveling story is actually really well done and the voice acting is pretty damn good. End game just isn’t there, and once you are fully geared, game just gets dull, but hopefully that is something they will work on in the future. Definitely worth playing.

If you look at the player count for this and see how much of the community has left then you understand more of how awful Amazon game studio is. The DEV team saying for 6 months how the community would get a roadmap then pushing it till now then saying surprise were going to console... What did we get.. ? console release and swimming... are you kidding me? they pretty much said the quiet part out loud in forged in aeternum.. Summary: were banking on console players to give us one more cash out before it completely dies. I just find it interesting how people spent hundreds (sometimes thousands) of hours on the game then says it’s bad. Clearly if they invested that time into something, they must have somewhat enjoyed it? If I thought the game was awful I’d quit and make content for another game to be honest. I think it’s a good game, and agreed the dev team needs a wake up call and figure out all these ongoing bugs popping up, but overall I strongly believe it’s a great game, and honestly has one of the best combat systems out there. Again, my opinion. Also, agreed 100% that the devs overhyped the PC community and the announcement was AWFUL and not planned the right way at all, whoever managed that needs to rethink their strategy. For 70 bucks or so it's definitely worth it. A new player can easily put in a few hundred hours and have a good time. Before the lack of content and poor design of endgame loops becomes seriously annoying. Chopping banana trees for hours to buy expensive chromatic seals every day is not a good endgame experience. Overall, it's still a fun game and yeah it's worth playing even if you don't stay in it too long. Thumbs up!

Was a good game but you now level up way to fast to the point that you out level the content and make the experience very dull. Also, the stability around certain areas is diabolical!! It feels like you’re playing Pac Man the way you glitch around the screen. You’ll also be gatekept out of content unless you conform to playing weapons builds that are placed upon you. Ie, don’t expect to play bow and have people invite you to groups in PvE. It has the basis on an amazing game (they have failed since launch to build upon this) but you’ll be constantly trolled by the dev team and their myriad of promises that they always fail to deliver and ignore the player base. We are spoilt with good games imho this year. I would highly suggest playing something else that has already established itself as a good game.

A very generic MMO. Yeah, lots of stuff to unlock and gather, but it gets tedious and repetitive very fast. Side quests "kill x enemies, loot x boxes" - boring. Graphics and optimization are good though.

As a player with thousands of hours, I don't recommend any player to return and I don't recommend it to new players. Blah blah but why did you invest so much time?? An MMO is a different value proposition to an offline game. Offline games clearly have an end and hours played reflects the end of the story. The way in which you leave an MMO is important. Life got busy? Cool, enjoy the memories and hope you have the time to jump back in. NW is completely different. For every useless feature Devs 'improved' they broke 5 more and haven't bothered to fix any. The more time you invest the more bitter the experience will be when you realise the minefield Devs have left at end game.

Agreed, it’s a very weird situation. I won’t say new world is a bad game, because there’s a reason I dumped thousands of hours into it. I agree though that I just get irritated quite a bit with new bugs being constantly introduced. The potential is huge and it’s annoying because so many of us WANT the game to succeed, but there’s just a huge gap right now between the devs and player base on priorities.
