Alex English joins Colin Cowherd on The Herd to discuss the latest news in the NBA. English weighs in on the impact international players bring to the NBA. The two discuss Nikola Jokić and debate if his style of play could have worked back in the 1980s. English shares his thoughts on what needs to change in Boston for Jayson Tatum to win a title.

@@TPG1 He only won 2 series? He went to the Western Conference Finals and in that season alone he won 2 series. So not sure that’s correct. But basketball is a team sport. Before he got there the Nuggets had been awful. He changed the culture and got us back to playoffs. And the Knicks put terrible teams around him. His biggest mistake was leaving Denver. There are only a handful of players that can elevate a team to win playoff series, Melo not being one of those players doesn’t detract from his greatness.

Thanks for having Alex English on your show. I love that guy. Plus, he was a banker. Many of those smooth, silky mid-range shots were bank shots. He was amazing. He was also a poet and an intellectual. Not long after he retired, he narrated the story of Peter and the Wolf, along with the Denver Symphony, at a family oriented concert event at the Denver Botanical Gardens. At the end, kids got to meet the cast. And the dads were all saying, hey kids, take this program and go get an autograph. But the kids all flocked to the duck, or the bird, or the wolf or one of the other animal characters. And the poor dads were all pointing and yelling, "No, the tall guy, over there." It was fun to watch, although I would never direct my kids like that....sigh.

Basketball in Europe was always a big sport, first one after football, it's not like baskeyball is a new thing in Europe. Jokic's Serbia was part of Yugoslavian basketball school which produced countless basketball gods, they arw tied with US for 5 World Cups titles for example, country of 20 million tied with a country of 300 million, and last two World Cups Serbia won after desintegration of Yugoslavia with population of 8 million. Dončić, Divac, Kukoč, Stojaković are just some of NBA players from Yugo school.

In 1981-82 season, the Nuggets averaged something like 126.5 points per game, still the highest ever in the NBA. But they were also called the worst defensive team for giving up 126.0 points per game. When asked about it, Doug Moe said the Nuggets is only the second worst defensive team in the league. The worst? The Nuggets' collective opponents. That drew a big laugh from the press 'cause they could not counter that point!

Jokic is one of the most physical presences in the game. His touch and shot making as well as facilitating is largely based on finesse and touch but don’t think for one second that he’s not equally physical with his crashing underneath the basket, the crushing screens he sets, the dominant rebounding. Dudes bounce off of him like they weigh ten pounds. He physically pulverized AD in this last series.Jokic is the perfect mix of physical and finesse
